I had the great pleasure and good fortune to be onstage with Ms Chiara in my country in 1975 when she sang Norma. The resident soprano had fallen ill and there was no understudy and Ms Chiara was flown in overnight and had two rehearsals during the day and went into performance the same night! She was MAGNIFICENT and the electricity onstage in that first performance with her was just amazing!

I can't think of another Stuarda who spits "figlia impura di Bolena" with such vocal ease, effectiveness and dignity. Most either choke because of the tessitura, others bark and others yell. Wonderful. Overall a rather rough around the edges performance but Chiara and Araiza stand out.

Well it’s clear Toczyska is not a true mezzosoprano. It’s also clear Chiara had a big lyric soprano capable of singing some spinto roles.
