Thanks for watching. Such a beautiful film. Take this as a creative inspiration, not an answer. But didn't expect this scene did you? Should I do part two? What's YOUR favourite scene?
Thanks for your beautifully detailed analysis. I'm glad you spent so much time comparing it to The Master, they're very similar films in terms of their domineering central figures being unable to temper the fierce individulism of their supposed subordinates (Alma & Freddie). I'd love to hear your thoughts on the "Asparagus" scene in Phantom Thread. It's my favourite moment from any PTA movie. Vicky Krieps in particular is magnificent, more than holding her own against DDL. There's almost a real life underdog dynamic at play in those films where the support actors often steal the thunder from the lead actors. Similarly Joaquin Phoenix for me, especially in The Master's Auditing scene, completely took my attention away from Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance.
I swear I have done that lipstick (or sometimes eyes, cheeks, etc.) Wipe down on a date... always saying something similar to the "ahhh... THERE you are!" . I cannot stand too much lipstick; so much worse in present day... Some chick's cake it on like a 🤡 and especially when I know they are gorgeous SANS all that FAUXness!
Not the scene I expected, but loved this nonetheless! The detail you noticed about Alma's entries and exits, and their effect on Reynolds is awesome because, like you mentioned, it adds so much depth to his character. The idea that his cold demeanor comes from a need for acceptance and protection is so much more enticing - and sets up their relationship for the rest of the film. Awesome work as always man, never disappointed by what you create :)
Well thank you very much my friend! The point was to challenge ourselves with new setups and angles to tell a story that a dialogue can't, so I'm glad it's been taken with the grain of salt and digested smoothly ;)
@@SpikimaMovies Love that attention to detail - I always find myself scrutinizing the periphery of the frame as well as what the directors want us to focus on - they're both parts that contribute to the whole. You're very welcome!
I think this may be my second favorite PTA and I also love that scene. I think when it was first released, I heard a lot of some people feeling as if Alma was one note and without agency. But she wrote him the note! She had no way of knowing he'd ask her to dinner. She was a step ahead of him in every way. That's why I love Alma as a character and think Krieps does an amazing job bringing the character to life.
My favorite P. T. Anderson film! Can’t wait for part 2. This film makes me think of the quote. “By proving contraries, truth is made manifest.” They are so opposite from each other but in the moments when they able to to connect and be one it’s beautiful. I think my favorite scene that shows this is when they dance together at the New Years party. Great video as always!!
PTA has an enormous skill for displaying emotion. Personally, when reading the title of the video, I thought of the ouija board scene in "Inherent Vice". It's so nostalgic and romantic and the camera makes a point of showing the intense, yet simple, way that love can touch us and leave a mark that lasts forever. It seemed weightless and fresh, and I've never experienced a director managing to do that quite in the same way as him.
Master, There will be blood, Magnolia처럼 정말 좋은 영화들이 많지만 저는 Phantom Thread가 가장 마음에 들었던거 같아요. 영상 너무 잘 봤습니다. 한글 자막도 너무 감사합니다!!
sooooo romantic mood through soooo profound analysis of the scene. The atmosphere between two is so well expressed in the sophisticated direction of the scene
I'm always gonna be obsessed with this film. Their seemingly perverted relationship worked so well as Alma slowly breaking Reynold's shield down. She lets him know that she see who he truly is from the start and that disturbed him, but he also love her the more for it. The direction in this film made these trainsition convincing.
PTA and Jonny Greenwood are an amazing pairing. They always bring out the best in each other and Daniel Day-Lewis just ties the whole film together beautifully. Great video as always.
The master and phantom thread are my two favorite Paul Thomas Anderson films. This is just me, but I've always struggled with Daniel Day-Lewis films because I always find that the films themselves are never as Good as the actual performances that he gives, and phantom thread for me ironically as his last movie, was finally the film that actually lived up to his brilliant performance and every other aspect around that film just ended up being phenomenal as well.
@@Nightcrawler77 honestly for me, there were quite a lot of movies in 2007 that I not only thought were Superior to there will be blood but I actually prefer the master, phantom thread, magnolia and inherent vice when it comes to Paul Thomas Andersons filmography

HI love your videos! Can you at some point in the future analyse some of lee chang-dongs older movies? maybe peppermint candy or secret sunshine. That´d be awesome
Would you be interested in making a video about Suspiria (2018) I think you could make a great commentary video about it. It's a unique movie and very much like Ari Aster's films at the same time.
Ok, I’ve seen quite few of your video essays. After some deliberation, I’ve subscribed to your channel. Now I must say, it’s been the analysis on Korean movies that has mostly drawn me to your channel. Please stay true.

I haven’t heard of this director before but now I want to see their work!
He's great! Would recommend checking out Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood or Punch-Drunk Love first
