Absolutely LOVE the effort that has gone into editing this video and making it 50% serious 50% comedy! OMG that foam falling on him made me literally LOL every time. Thanks so much! :P
I got my 14 year old into watching your videos during lockdown, unlike his older Brother, he now saves nearly every penny he has in his S&P500 and Global ISA. He moaned at me the other day about why it's been dropping this year, I explained, he then said he has £100 birthday money left over from last month and wants it in the ISA asap to buy 'cheap shares' as he put it. Thanks for all your easy advice, you've got Me and my family (apart from the eldest, as he knows best) into investing.
Gotta say I’m a huge fan of the LifeStrategy 100% fund. It is convenient and I’m happy to pay for that service. Especially because I’m a lazy investor, I treat it like a savings account TBH. I’ve got a direct debit set up and I just leave it to do it’s own thing.
Now this is what is needed in the current market. Sensible information and cracking humour (oh and numbers are not boring, I mean who doesn’t appreciate a good figure!). Thank you once again for your efforts and continued realism with your content.
Class. Even made me chuckle with those Ainsley clips on the way home from working nights! Another great insight & had no idea you could do this. Legend Damo, cheers pal.
Can tell you went the extra mile for the production value on this video mate. The information was relevant and useful, the edits of humour was hilarious and different shots around your place brought more life into the video. Well done Damien!!!
I'm happy to pay for the convenience to be honest. All the hours I would need to put in to constantly find slightly cheaper ways of doing things would probably cost me more than £17k over 30 years anyway. Oh, and that acoustic foam falling from the ceiling was 👌 proper made me giggle
Hi Simon! Thanks for coming over and checking out the channel. I didn’t realise the conversation with Pete had gone live yet so good to hear you liked that and more Importantly the content on the channel. Damo
Another great video Damien, you've given me much to think about as I'm currently using the Vangard's LifeStrategy. I'm probably not doing to touch anything yet as I'm not confident enough to mess around with these things
Yeah and that is it mate, only do what you are confident with and the lS funds are amazing! But also in time as you grow in confidence have a go of doing it yourself.
Had me laughing most the way through again buddy! Love it! Great info! Who said financial content is boring...? They havent been watching you obviously! Keep it up! Thanks dude!
Nice one Damien. Like others have said, I'm happy at the time being to stick with Vanguard for the convenience, but it's interesting to see that there's a DIY method out there. Nailed it with the gags in this one too. Wouldn't worry about the escaping hairline. I started losing my hair when I was 16 and fully lost it when I was 19, and frankly it's made my life a bit easier. Less money to spend on shampoo and haircuts, more money to chuck into an index fund ;)

Another great video fella. Set it and forget funds are great for newbies or peeps with no time to do research. Though like the idea of creating your own, crazy how ‘super low’ vanguard fees can still churn out some eye watering numbers over time. 9k is a few chunk of change!
Love IT!!!! Awesome video Damo. Looking at the comments, and I agree with that 100%, you have undeniably mastered the craft of delivering outstanding content where we are not only learning but you make us laugh at the same time! This is the best of the best Damo! Regarding Lifestrategies, I am going to stick to Vanguard at the moment, I think that moment will be a longer moment ;) Take care Bud!
Your feedback is always welcomed Lukas but this has to be your best comment. thank you so so much mate. Always means loads to me that you show up every week to watch.
Main issue (I think) with the LifeStrategy funds is the large number of low yielding bonds they place into an investment portfolio. Vanguard's Global Bond Index Fund (a significant component of the LifeStrategy) is down nearly 9% this year, yields about 1.4%, and is hedged into Sterling (which has weakened this year against major currencies). Safety of the Vanguard bond funds is highly questionable versus a cash reserve with rising interest rates, and its yield for fixed income is far too low. For safety can simply (I think) use cash, and fixed income assets with higher yields and in a stronger currency than Sterling is these days.
9K saving sounds good but what they never tell you is that the fee saving is back loaded, in fact in this example around 85% of the saving is made in the second 15 years and about 50% in the last 6 years. I'm sure the fee landscape will have changed considerably by then. And, as far I'm aware, LS funds are also available in the UK on Fidelity and Interactive Investor to name two. Entertaining and well put together though.
Great comment and insight and you are spot on that with percentage fees the majority of those fees are paid on the higher balances at the end, But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look to reduce fees now and I would say that the fee landscape is already changing currently and all the platforms you have mentioned need to react, well Vangua and HL certainly, fidelity I don’t know the fees off the top of my head and ii may be cheaper but their fee structure is so all over the place it would be hard to tell, if I remember correctly their U.K. fees are expensive and they only really make sense on American shares. Regardless all I can really control as an investor in the short term is fees, so I will look to do that. Also thanks for pointing out the other platforms, I had a good look around for LS funds on other platforms but couldn’t find them I don’t use fidelity or ii so must have missed it within my search I hope others see this comment and it is very valuable input
@@DamienTalksMoney I agree on minimising fees, I’m just as tight as the next investor. And who wouldn’t want an extra 9K? But my OCD compelled me to dig deeper into the numbers behind the headline figure. The flat fees for ii can get complex and costly for heavy traders, but are simple for regular investing into something like LS and works out cheaper than VG for an ISA of 80K or more, and the bigger your pot the more you save. For a smaller pot a fixed % platform makes more sense of course and Fidelity is more expensive than VG but cheaper than HL, for holding LS funds anyway.

This video is class my friend! Really like the new format, really dynamic and engaging. Appreciate the effort put in this video. Mate how many times you made me laugh, I don’t know how long you laugh when putting it all together!
Yes Adam glad you like the style! I wont be able to make them all like this as this took a good while to put together but good to have this in my locker. Sometimes the jokes come easier than others and with this one i have been battling the foam for weeks now so thought why not just turn it into a gag..
I swear, this has to be the funniest finance video I've ever seen!!! I had to keep rewinding because when you made me laugh, I forgot what you were talking about!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Another great video. I've come to your channel as I'm about to start to dip my toe into investing and your videos are a great source of info (even if a bit flies over my head at this stage.... Like foam I suppose!). The Life Strategy Fund is still going to be for me.... As I will be a relatively low ball investor, just trying to get a decent return (over the top of a bank account) on the little money I can put into fund. I'm never going to be at a point where I wish to risk too much or want to manage my own funds....... I want to "invest and forget" as that will be better than doing nothing. The Life Strategy Fund will allow me to do this simply and easily (I hope)
You are an absolute treasure. I literally began the transfer of my ISA from vanguard to Invest Engine yesterday and was going to sit a create a portfolio that mimicked the lifestrategy funds today! Thank god the algorithm figured that out and I was looking at my UA-cam feed before I did - you've saved me hours of toil and apparently my hairline! Only thing next is when trading 212 take on new ISA customers, will it be worth making the swap again?!?
That foam installation was a paid actor. Haha. Almost choked on my dinner watching this one. Who says education cannot be entertaining? Great video as always :)
Damn, the last few videos you’ve done Damo, are of a new level. Been watching you since your first few videos, it’s bloody epic to see where this has gone. 63k subs, that’s less than it should be - I reckon you’ll get to 100k and then getting to 500k will take the same amount of time, remember this comment ;-) I’m in Cape Town, South Africa (altho I’m a British citizen) so this vid was cool because access to Vanguard isn’t the same from down here.
Yes Chris! Always love that you watch my videos from the other end of the world. I would love to visit Cape town one day in a previous job i had some south African clients and they spoke of the great quality of life and amazing food in that part of the world.

I watch you a lot and i don't give much feedback, but your content is excellent and you deserve far more subscribers. Very interesting and entertaining. My preferences are in crypto uk law so keep it coming. Thanks
Here is a thought - life strategy funds are more expensive then the 0.33% figure you calculate. The life strategy funds invest into a basket of vanguard ETFs which each charge a fee, so technically by investing into life strategy you’re paying 0.33 for that fund plus the fee for each fund in the strategy. If that’s correct (I hope it isn’t because I invest into the 80% fund, it’s actually very expensive
Truly excellent content. From knowing absolutely nothing about investments, I'm now ready to open a cash and S+S LISA. Everything learnt from your videos. Please keep up the good work.
Ah what a video to come back to, fun and educational. I wouldn't worry about the hair thing, I'm choosing to embrace it. Right I got to catch up ur videos.
@@DamienTalksMoney 😂 It would definitely be entertaining. Worth thinking about teaming up with someone to do some podcasts though.... Maybe a UA-cam live to start things off, doesn't have to be pure financial stuff. I'm sure many of your subscribers enjoy all the cultural references in the vids. Could be a night of ETFs and EMF.... Oops, showing me age.
buy/sell spread costs when you do the 'free' rebalancing on the platform? risk of small funds closing down and increasing costs via buy/sell to another fund, and/or realized capital gains taxes? risk of '$0 fee' platform raising fees in future, or being bought out buy a bigger, more expensive competitor (who shifts your investment into their more expensive platform). There are a few unknown cost factors that might make the cost savings lower than initially expected -- so the extra work may not pay off.
The issue is when life strategy fund is rebalanced you will need to do that for your own created fund mimicking life strategy fund , how would one keep up with the changes if and when the rebalancing of life strategy fund happens ? The automatic rebalancing on invest engine might not necessarily match the rebalancing of vanguard’s life strategy funds
Damien, fantastic content mate. Powering through your videos -- Top quality info and a concise and punchy delivery with a wicked sense of humour! One question from this video; the 0.1% "Built-in Fee" you reference at 11.20, what does that relate to? I can find the 0.22% LS Fund Fee and the 0.15% Vanguard Platform Fee, but the additional 0.1% is proving elusive! Thanks
Another brilliant video Damo, but I just struggle to understand no fee or free concept, how can anything be free in business ? How is a business feasible to run in the long run, of course there are loss leader products in any industry. I don't know ! my personal choice would be to invest with a reputable business like Vanguard
Yeah i completely get this. In truth they will likely take a cut from the funds they list on the platform for essentially referring people over they will also look to scale and then introduce services. It is quite common in businesses most tech companies make zero cash for ages and just look to grow. Facebook and example of this. Uber still losses money to this day... It has never made a penny. So at this point i think these platforms are far more interested in market share over profits. Freetrade has 1 million customers and is still fund raising for expansion. UA-cam channels are similar in a sense, i give away info for free but if i can reach enough people with that info the money comes
Would Lifestrategy 100 be a good thing to have as part of diversified portfolio though? If you’re in the wealth accumulation phase of your life and you want something that has UK exposure, then in this instance it would be good to have Lifestrategy 100? While the UK isn’t expected to recover anytime soon (I’d say for a decade to be honest), would I Lifestrategy 100 be seen as a cheap way of buying the UK now while it’s cheap and then reaping the rewards later on when the UK recovers? Just a thought
If you are struggling with holding up your acoustic treatment, I have had great success with with T pins. They will hold it up until you retire, which i think is a great investment 😉
Damien, too much hassle mate, you just want the Global All Cap and the Global Index Fund, or the Global ex UK + UK Index + Emg Mrkts and the Global Index. I think what you're forgetting ( might be wrong) in Europe / UK you can only have a max holding within a fund of 20% so a lot of the top holdings will be 19% or thereabouts, if Vanguard were allowed to hold more than 20% they would probably just settle on a 2 fund or poss 3 fund mix, see the Vanguard funds at the US site most only use a 4 fund mix USA + ROW+ US Bonds+ Int. Bonds. Vanguard arent allowed to do the same in Europe due to the 20% cap but that doesn't stop an investor. Also the fund cost quoted arent the true cost there are transaction costs within the funds. So although you may put something together that on the face of it is cheaper, there are trading costs bid/offer spreads on ETF's. If your a monthly investor dividing your sub between these adds up. I also go with Bogle in that using ETF is dangerous for the consumer, trading costs bid/offer spreads (grant for the most liquid its not much of an issue) investor behaviour having a quote available all the time, hassle of rebalancing, when how ... do the KISS test. Good luck anyway great videos keep going.
Hi Damien, thank you very much for your videos and the info you share in them! They are really useful and educating. I’m new in investing and still learning and I would like to ask you if you open different S&S ISAs or also a SIPP how do you manage the investments? I mean, how do you organise the investments so they don’t overlay? I was thinking about investing in an all world fund through a S&S ISA but if I also want to open a SIPP (or another S&S ISA), does it make sense to invest in the same type of fund? Could you share some insights to have different and complementary accounts? Many thanks!

Ramin is truly an amazing creator and such a fountain of level headed insightful information. I have also been watching him for years now
This video is class my friend!
Appreciate it takes time and good to have some videos like this sprinkled in between the usual broadcast. Hope the foam is staying put now!?
Another excellent video. You will be cracking the magic 100k subscribers before Christmas at this rate.
Fingers crossed mate! Just need to keep making content
Superb video mate, literally laughing out loud whilst learning.... 👍 👏
Amazing! Love this comment thank you
Great video, often looked at LifeStrategy 100 and similar funds and see they you are getting a load of cheap ETFs and paying a premium for it.
Yeah convenience has a price with these funds for sure!
Great video Damien, educational and engaging. Keep up the great work 👍
Thank you Ryan mate! Thanks for tuning in
I swear, this has to be the funniest finance video I've ever seen!!! I had to keep rewinding because when you made me laugh, I forgot what you were talking about!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic video. Love the mix of seriousness and humour!
Thank you so much
Unbelievably packed with information.....pour yourself a drink young man 🥂
Thanks Iain! I slammed a beer straight after posting lol
Amazing Video, your best yet 👌🏻 keep up the good work
Yes! Amazing feedback thank you.
Incredible video, your channel is highly underrated
Thank you so much. Glad you liked.
I've only just got around to this, but jeez this is a sick video, nice one!
Great vid Damo 👍🏻 love how you make the content memorable 👏
Thank you so much Sandra! So glad you liked it.
Hahah glad i could help you out mate! Let me know how you get on with it all
All your videos are great - love it.
Thank you so much!
The foam falling was my fave part - love your videos!
Yes! i can't tell you the effort that went into making the foam fall on time haha.
@@DamienTalksMoney I feel like we need a video dedicated to behind the scenes bloopers …
That foam installation was a paid actor. Haha. Almost choked on my dinner watching this one. Who says education cannot be entertaining? Great video as always :)
That was an entertaining learning vídeo, keep it up!
damien love the humour and clarity
@@DamienTalksMoney Cheers! Like anywhere, we've got our economic and political issues, and unfortunately a lot of crime but it's an incredible city to live in. If you're ever coming down this side, holler at me and I'll happily give you some guidance / tips / pointers on where to go. My entire family is from England and Scotland, so we're very familiar with the movement between the countries.
You make something which should be boring interesting ☺️ Great job
Great advice (nay - demonstration of concept!) as ever Damien. I just hope it hasn't faded from my memory by the time my LifeStrategy fund has finally recovered...Thanks.
Haha it will recover one day i am sure! We just have to take the rough with the smooth.
I watch you a lot and i don't give much feedback, but your content is excellent and you deserve far more subscribers. Very interesting and entertaining. My preferences are in crypto uk law so keep it coming. Thanks
Great video Damien. Genuinely laugh out loud funny. And of course informative
Thank you so much Darren! Glad you enjoyed this one.
Love the new setup, Damo! 🔥
Thank you mate! Hope you are well
Great video Damo, very useful. Many thanks for the content, love it. You've got loads of hair btw 😎
Thanks Adam! I am gluing the hair i got left to my head.
@@DamienTalksMoney 🤣
Here is a thought - life strategy funds are more expensive then the 0.33% figure you calculate. The life strategy funds invest into a basket of vanguard ETFs which each charge a fee, so technically by investing into life strategy you’re paying 0.33 for that fund plus the fee for each fund in the strategy. If that’s correct (I hope it isn’t because I invest into the 80% fund, it’s actually very expensive
You're right. It's Vanguard's account account fee, Life strategy fee, trading fee within the fund and TERs of all the underlying funds.
Truly excellent content. From knowing absolutely nothing about investments, I'm now ready to open a cash and S+S LISA. Everything learnt from your videos. Please keep up the good work.
RTJ vinyl in the background. Love it!
Very well spotted!
Ah what a video to come back to, fun and educational. I wouldn't worry about the hair thing, I'm choosing to embrace it. Right I got to catch up ur videos.
Great video again bud thanks for the insight. The sound proofing is going well then 😂😂
The sound proofing is rock solid mate don't know what you are talking about... haha
Brilliant All Round 👍🏼👍🏽
Thank you!
You and Ramin are my bestest investment UA-camrs, very different approaches but both very watchable. Maybe you should do a podcast together 😀!
I don’t think he would put up with me 🤣🤣 he is far too good at what he does to entertain my silliness

Ramin is also amazing but he doesn't have your wicked meme skills.
@@CleanerBio Can''t imagine Ramin's soundproofing foam lands on him either
buy/sell spread costs when you do the 'free' rebalancing on the platform?
risk of small funds closing down and increasing costs via buy/sell to another fund, and/or realized capital gains taxes?
risk of '$0 fee' platform raising fees in future, or being bought out buy a bigger, more expensive competitor (who shifts your investment into their more expensive platform).
Went LS80 and Vwrl. Realised straight away that the LS was very sluggish in comparison to proper ETF
I do enjoy the “dash” of humour you bring
Damien, fantastic content mate. Powering through your videos -- Top quality info and a concise and punchy delivery with a wicked sense of humour! One question from this video; the 0.1% "Built-in Fee" you reference at 11.20, what does that relate to? I can find the 0.22% LS Fund Fee and the 0.15% Vanguard Platform Fee, but the additional 0.1% is proving elusive! Thanks
It is an estimated cost that relates to transactions fee mate. So it wont be set it is an average
Awesome as always Damo!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much!
Joe Swash, HA. Ramin is great. Have you given his Many Happy Returns podcast a listen? It's great.
I have not but I will be sure to listen!
Nice video Damien. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks for the sub! Glad you enjoyed the video and welcome to the channel.
Interesting, informative and entertaining. Good man, Damien.
Perfect feedback exactly what i am going for thank you!
Great video funny and a lot of good information love the effort you put into it to 👍
Thank you so much Alan!
Thank you
0:52. You can buy them on interactive investor.
could you do a step by step video showing how to set this type off Portfolio up for Beginners
thanks
Best vid ive seen on this channel so far 😅
Yes! Amazing feedback thank you so much
Would Lifestrategy 100 be a good thing to have as part of diversified portfolio though? If you’re in the wealth accumulation phase of your life and you want something that has UK exposure, then in this instance it would be good to have Lifestrategy 100? While the UK isn’t expected to recover anytime soon (I’d say for a decade to be honest), would I Lifestrategy 100 be seen as a cheap way of buying the UK now while it’s cheap and then reaping the rewards later on when the UK recovers? Just a thought
Just found this, and you are SO RIGHT...BrewDog beer does taste like perfume!
Great vid as usual! Just to let you know in your google sheets you missed out V US Equity index on your LS100 list.
Legend mate! I will update it
Catch up with your video mate 👍 going be great video 😊
If you are struggling with holding up your acoustic treatment, I have had great success with with T pins. They will hold it up until you retire, which i think is a great investment 😉
Mate!! Help me please. I joke about it on the video but the situation is very very real. I once got fully clapped by a bass trap 🤣
