Considering all the struggles this show had just to get made and put on air, it’s amazing how dark and somber the first season was. She Hulk’s characterization here is based on how she was being written by John Byrne at the time. They had plans to expand the Leader’s ambition and bring in more classic Hulk villains for the 2nd season before the network forced them to tone the show down and kiddiefy it. The best episodes are Innocent Blood, Doomed and Darkness and Light part 3
I'm a big fan of the darkness and light trilogy, the final shift is bizarre to say the least, but at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been, ya know? It was kinda neat seeing him evolve into superhero Avenger Hulk from monster uncontrollable Hulk
@@SuperSwimTeam7 Yeah. One of the mandates for Season two was to make Bruce and the Hulk less brooding and more upbeat. That’s why Bruce spends less time trying to Cure himself in Season two. Their original plan for season two was too focus entirely on the Gray Hulk and basically adapt Peter David’s run. But they were forced to add She-Hulk, and she essentially took over the whole show. I wish the Hulk would get another animated series just for him. But Disney would screw it up for sure.
@@devisrikadem8781 I don’t mind them interacting. They’re family. My issue is that she pulled focus AWAY from Bruce and his internal struggle. I mean, this season was the first animated depiction of the Gray Hulk and we didn’t get any character development with him or back and forth between him and Bruce( their intense dislike of each other, while also constantly being forced to work together, is hallmark of Peter David’s run)at all. It’s a total missed opportunity, considering this was the planned direction for the second season before the network forced the re-tooling.

I absolutely loved She-Hulk in this show,i suggest you read more on her older runs... She's just a confident character that isn't scared of flaunting her good looks, just as Jen herself said in the comics her She-Hulk form was liberating,she loves her She-Hulk form, Jen is a very shy and reserved lady just like Banner but In her She-Hulk form she is able to express herself in the best way she knows how... It made her unique rather than being an exact copy of the OG Hulk(Jason Aaron ruined She-Hulk in the comics,thankfully She-Hulk is getting back her classic look).. Seriously tho i suggest you read her older comics...
I like how there are characters in this show. While Fortnite is on the screen monitor in the beginning of this video. I wish I can do videos like that. But I only use mobile for my UA-cam videos only.
I really like this show and I'd say its one par with X-Men and Spiderman 90s shows at least when it comes to narrative and most of the stories, but yeah the animation is very hit or miss. It also wasn't afraid to get pretty dark in places which I think is actually is fitting for a Hulk show. It has its flaws for sure and X-Men and Spiderman are better but when Hulk TAS hits, it really hits imo.
It should get a second chance! This is a pretty good take on Hulk and his rogues gallery, I love how everyone from Abomination to Absorbing Man, Doctor Doom, Leader, Ross, and Sasquatch all show up

You actually like modern She-Hulk? Everyone I know hates modern She-Hulk incarnations because of the fact that it takes away the unique aspect of her character and dynamic with Hulk, in that she actually likes being Hulk, she likes her body and is confident in it. Being She-Hulk gave her new confidence in herself and her body, which leads to her more flirty and flaunty personality. I don’t exactly see how that’s sexist? She’s in control of her sexuality and likes to flaunt a little bit. She-Hulk is cool because she explores the importance of being comfortable and confident in your body. If someone wants to dress a little more sexy and flaunt their sexiness, that shouldn’t be considered sexist, that’s dumb. Sexist would be something like how they handled the Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four movies, where they write in ways for Sue to be without her clothes just to appeal to male audiences, which in the process objectifies her. That is actually sexist. I don’t see how She-Hulk in this is sexist. People dislike modern She-Hulk because it’s a step back and ends up being regressive. It kinda just showed you’re not very familiar with She-Hulk.
This is what Tom Tataranowicz who worked on the show told me: "When given the series, I had wanted to do it ala "The Fugitive" (sort of like the Bill Bixby live action show) and have Bruce Banner travel around the USA and Canada, searching for a cure. The Leader would start off as the series' villain and then basically stalk Banner and the Hulk throughout the Season, heading towards a major confrontation. The over riding series arc was to get to the Season's end and have him become the Grey Hulk as a cliff hanger. So, to kick things off, I mapped out a loose continuity that included various Guest Heroes and Villains that were also being done in the Toy Biz line of :"Hulk" action figures. I took what I felt were interesting story lines from the comics, a fealty to the historic Marvel Hulk and mixed that in with some concepts of our own to make it play in a creatively dramatic fashion. Then, working with Story Editor, Greg Johnson, I believe some pretty good scripts were created. My one minor regret is that I feel like I should have pushed a bit more of a "Savage Hulk" aspect. To be a bit edgier. However, it is quite possible that would not have flown with the execs at UPN."
I'm glad to see someone talking about this show I feel like the show is so underrated and yes the theme song is really good I have binge-watched the show a lot while I was growing up it was on Netflix and I watched a lot more now that it's on Disney Plus I'm glad to see someone give it the treatment that it deserves
I wholeheartedly believe that this cartoon will continue to stand as THE best Hulk representation for a very long time. At least for as long as Disney has their hands on it. Give the franchise to someone who actually cares about the character, you might start to see some changes. Massive shame nobody followed after the 2008 movie.
The Ultimate Destruction videogame and the Planet Hulk and Hulk vs films are the only ones that are on par with it. I would love an adaptation of Peter David's run or a faithful rendition of Al Ewing's spectacular Immortal Hulk series but sadly, given how everything is family friendly and MCU oriented with Marvel these days, I don't think it will ever pass.
I remember watching this cartoon at my aunts house when my mom and my dad had to run some Arians and my mom would drop me off at my aunts house and she has jetix I would always watched marvel animation shows and other shows there too like power rangers
I love this Hulk Animated Series so much and Neil McDonough did a great voice performance as Bruce Banner and the amazing Lou Ferrigno as the voice of The Hulk 😮. This series had plenty of action and it showed Hulks pure anger and rage and his powers . The animation was awesome. I love when the Hulk roars and says ” Hulk Smash Hulk Bash ”
I was curious if the series went on longer, if they would have introduced The Pantheon and Professor Merged Hulk which was popular in the 90s. I love those Peter David issues from back then. to be Hulk writers, top 3, Peter David, Greg Pak and then Al Ewing.

Hello from that one Twitter post! I think this was a good video. I'm not quite sure what "retrospective" means but it's cool to see some hulk lore from one of the satam cartoons. I used to really like hulk as a kid just because he was green lmao. I'm not too crazy about him now but I think you did a good job conveying how you feel about the show. I always see people talking about Spectacular or the 60s cartoon or one of the newer ones but I rarely ever see people talking about Spider-Man the animated series and if I do they just say oh yeah “Well it’s not as good as spectacular” which might be true. If you wanna pick up on more of the references Al Ewing sprinkles into the immortal hulk I would HIGHLY recommend watching the 1970s TV show and reading Peter David’s hulk run from the 80s. Lots of the characters in the Immortal hulk are either named after or completely based off the characters of the show, and this entire cartoon is based off a lot of stories from Peter David’s book, only the book ventures more into the psychology of banner/hulk and the relationship between them. There’s some fun Easter eggs in immortal hulk !
Like all 90s animated SuperheroShows, this the best Incarnation for the Hulk. Season 1 is the best. But it should show more own Hulk-Villains. And Season 2 is for me half good and half bad, but it has potenial. For me is the last Episode in my Order The lost Village. The good Episodes in Season 2 are: Hulk of a Different Color Down Memory Lane They Call Me Mr. Fixit Hollywood Rocks The Lost Village
You should check out the Iron Man show that came out around the same time as this, the first season sucked but the second season is a criminally underrated gem.
if you like immortal hulk i'd suggest checking out peter david's run its what clearly inspired it besides lovecraftian horror, where do you think hulk busting out the skin came from? it's the grey hulk arc and some shots from it were directly recreated when joe fixit is talking to betty in immortal hulk.
As regards Betty being a damsel in distress & She-Hulk's presentation being sexist. You ever been around a gorgeous woman... that knows it? Betty is portrayed as a real woman with brains and skills who is faced with often insurmountable situations. And her pain regarding Bruce's situation along with her Father's views, would be a terrible burden. Betty is anything but a damsel in distress.
Isn't Betty and Samson responsible for the nutrient bath that splits the hulk in the three parter. Seems to me like that really contributes to the series more than damsel
Just to let you know the real reason why Season 2 deviated away from the dark and serious tone of Season 1 in favor of a more comedic and toy commercial was because parents complained that the show was too violent for kids.
I don't think she hulk was that bad. In fact, I think this was a great take on the character. She was a confident Amazonian-esque bombshell who loved just saving the world and having fun doing it. I also like the contrast between her and her cousin. Bruce hates being the hulk. And why wouldn't he? The hulk is a big green rage monster that smashes everything in sight. And ever since Bruce first transformed into the hulk he's been on the run trying to find a cure. But Jennifer's mutation is kind of like when Jim Carrey puts on the mask. It draws out her deepest desires and she becomes the person she wishes she could be. She loves being she hulk because the transformation gives her strength and confidence. They even make it a point too show a difference in their transformation sequences. When Bruce transforms it's like a horror movie with a very grotesque and creepy sequence. But when Jen transforms, it almost looks like something out of sailor Moon. She literally blossoms in her She-Hulk form.
Honestly one problem i have is specifically Bruce Banners build. Bruce Banner being noticeably muscular makes it less impressive whenever he becomes the Hulk cause it looks like a jacked guy just becoming a slightly bigger jacked guy who is now green and less smart. Its like making a movie of the bible story of little David fighting the giant Goliath if you have David played by someone built like Hulk Hogan.
I love the Hulk cartoon it is awesome. There is a couple Hulk animated movies you should check out too. Hulk Vs Wolverine is awesome. Hulk vs Thor was good. Then there is the Planet Hulk animated movie. It is awesome. It even has zombies in it. I loved it.
It's so strange how they improved Iron Man and Fantastic Four for their second seasons yet for Hulk decided to go the opposite route and make the second season really dumb like the first seasons of those other shows.
Your review of the show overall is solid and your right that this show absolutely should be talked about more and given more respect. But also respectfully to you... your stance on She-Hulk in this show is *shit*. A woman walking into a room looking for praise of her appearance from everyone around her is not "strange or abnormal behavior." A cis-woman taking confidence in her appearance and hoping the men around her like the way she looks too is not "problematic behavior". And her making tongue and cheek "lewd humor" about her own appearance is both not meant to be taken literally (no she does not *literally orgasm* when she turns into She-Hulk for the first time) but also in general it is just not "sexist behavior" to do so period. You can rearrange any of those in any which way and the point still stands. She uses the fact that she *knows* she looks good as a way to command control of the room and get what she wants. It'd be sexist if she used that as a way to say all men are idiots for falling for her and finding her attractive. Or if she ran around saying she had women specific problems and that somehow made her infinitely more qualified to solve a problem more than any male superhero ever could. OR have her *literally say she can control her Hulk form better than Bruce because she's got better emotional control and been through more trauma because she's a woman* THAT is what *Modern Day* She-Hulk and the Disney+ series had her do. THAT is something you can say She-Hulk does that's sexist or problematic. But how she's written in *this* show though? No. Nothing about her is "problematic or dated" in this show in anyway.
The cartoon is 100% better and entertaining than the garbage Hulk & The Agent Of Smash, MCU Phase 2 to now and other garbage modern marvel cartoons by disney.

The only Hulk cartoon from the 90s I liked is the Second Season feature Hulk and his cousin jennifer the She Hulk because it's light and funny than the First Season of The Incredible Hulk. Plus my favourites episodes are "Down Memory Lane" and "Fashion Warriors" since it feature Gargoyle's obession for She Hulk, it's a shame that the series had come to the end because I would like to see more of Gargoyle trying to win She Hulk's heart.

This guy complaining about the She-Hulk character in the show is a perfect example of how bland “inoffensive” takes on these characters ruined Marvel over the last decade.
When it comes to she hulk I think her personality (Except most of times she's outright flirty or objectifying herself) is a lot better than how she's portrayed elsewhere. She kicks ass, can be legitimately funny and is an actual help to others rather than just complaining about things like misogyny and being a woman (Yes I'm referring to the Netflix series). The biggest problem I think is how the world around her reacts to her because especially in that time, I don't think every person would be doing the wolf routine over her in fact I think some would be very judgmental of her looks showing she isn't completely free of the same judgement the hulk gets.

I would NOT call this a good show, actually. The twerking with Megan Thee Stallion bit, though, is NOTHING. That wouldn't even make a top 10 of the show's issues. #1, though? Just that as an adaptation of the character's origin in a solo She-Hulk show context? This SUCKS. Probably the worst origin adaptation in the MCU. It amplifies everything not great about the presentation of it in the 1996 cartoon, cuts out everything that show still got right, AND lacks the fig leaf of it...not being her show at the time. She-Hulk Attorney at Law Origin: 2/10. (If in a solo Hulk show context? 5/10.) Incredible Hulk 1996 She-Hulk Origin: 8/10. (If in a She-Hulk show context: 6/10.) 5. Damsel in distress are not bad! I hate hearing people complain about love interest having no powers and them being “in distress” as an issue. They’re normal human beings, not everyone is well trained in hand to hand or should be. Like calling her “dumb” makes no sense to me. Her Red She Hulk transformation in the comics wasn’t necessary nor a good idea. It made Betty much more negatively emotionally burdened than needed.

I would love an adaptation of Peter David's run or a faithful rendition of Al Ewing's spectacular Immortal Hulk series but sadly, given how everything is family friendly and MCU oriented with Marvel these days, I don't think it will ever pass.
I remember watching this cartoon at my aunts house when my mom and my dad had to run some Arians and my mom would drop me off at my aunts house and she has jetix I would always watched marvel animation shows and other shows there too like power rangers
I love this Hulk Animated Series so much and Neil McDonough did a great voice performance as Bruce Banner and the amazing Lou Ferrigno as the voice of The Hulk 😮. This series had plenty of action and it showed Hulks pure anger and rage and his powers . The animation was awesome. I love when the Hulk roars and says ” Hulk Smash Hulk Bash ”

I was curious if the series went on longer, if they would have introduced The Pantheon and Professor Merged Hulk which was popular in the 90s. I love those Peter David issues from back then. to be Hulk writers, top 3, Peter David, Greg Pak and then Al Ewing.
Especially the future imperfect storyline that’s definitely popular storyline by marvel comics in 1992-1993

I think this was a good video. I'm not quite sure what "retrospective" means but it's cool to see some hulk lore from one of the satam cartoons. I used to really like hulk as a kid just because he was green lmao. I'm not too crazy about him now but I think you did a good job conveying how you feel about the show.

I always see people talking about Spectacular or the 60s cartoon or one of the newer ones but I rarely ever see people talking about Spider-Man the animated series and if I do they just say oh yeah “Well it’s not as good as spectacular” which might be true. If you wanna pick up on more of the references Al Ewing sprinkles into the immortal hulk I would HIGHLY recommend watching the 1970s TV show and reading Peter David’s hulk run from the 80s. Lots of the characters in the Immortal hulk are either named after or completely based off the characters of the show, and this entire cartoon is based off a lot of stories from Peter David’s book, only the book ventures more into the psychology of banner/hulk and the relationship between them. There’s some fun Easter eggs in immortal hulk !
I've been re-watching some of the '70s show, I'm surprised how well it's held up!
Like all 90s animated SuperheroShows, this the best Incarnation for the Hulk.
Season 1 is the best.
But it should show more own Hulk-Villains.
And Season 2 is for me half good and half bad, but it has potenial.

if you like immortal hulk i'd suggest checking out peter david's run its what clearly inspired it besides lovecraftian horror, where do you think hulk busting out the skin came from? it's the grey hulk arc and some shots from it were directly recreated when joe fixit is talking to betty in immortal hulk.
As regards Betty being a damsel in distress & She-Hulk's presentation being sexist. You ever been around a gorgeous woman... that knows it? Betty is portrayed as a real woman with brains and skills who is faced with often insurmountable situations. And her pain regarding Bruce's situation along with her Father's views, would be a terrible burden. Betty is anything but a damsel in distress.
Isn't Betty and Samson responsible for the nutrient bath that splits the hulk in the three parter.
Seems to me like that really contributes to the series more than damsel
Just to let you know the real reason why Season 2 deviated away from the dark and serious tone of Season 1 in favor of a more comedic and toy commercial was because parents complained that the show was too violent for kids.
I don't think she hulk was that bad. In fact, I think this was a great take on the character. She was a confident Amazonian-esque bombshell who loved just saving the world and having fun doing it. I also like the contrast between her and her cousin. Bruce hates being the hulk. And why wouldn't he? The hulk is a big green rage monster that smashes everything in sight. And ever since Bruce first transformed into the hulk he's been on the run trying to find a cure. But Jennifer's mutation is kind of like when Jim Carrey puts on the mask. It draws out her deepest desires and she becomes the person she wishes she could be. She loves being she hulk because the transformation gives her strength and confidence. They even make it a point too show a difference in their transformation sequences. When Bruce transforms it's like a horror movie with a very grotesque and creepy sequence. But when Jen transforms, it almost looks like something out of sailor Moon. She literally blossoms in her She-Hulk form.

Honestly one problem i have is specifically Bruce Banners build. Bruce Banner being noticeably muscular makes it less impressive whenever he becomes the Hulk cause it looks like a jacked guy just becoming a slightly bigger jacked guy who is now green and less smart. Its like making a movie of the bible story of little David fighting the giant Goliath if you have David played by someone built like Hulk Hogan.
I love the Hulk cartoon it is awesome. There is a couple Hulk animated movies you should check out too. Hulk Vs Wolverine is awesome. Hulk vs Thor was good. Then there is the Planet Hulk animated movie. It is awesome. It even has zombies in it. I loved it.

It's so strange how they improved Iron Man and Fantastic Four for their second seasons yet for Hulk decided to go the opposite route and make the second season really dumb like the first seasons of those other shows.

Your review of the show overall is solid and your right that this show absolutely should be talked about more and given more respect.
But also respectfully to you... your stance on She-Hulk in this show is *shit*.
A woman walking into a room looking for praise of her appearance from everyone around her is not "strange or abnormal behavior."
A cis-woman taking confidence in her appearance and hoping the men around her like the way she looks too is not "problematic behavior".
And her making tongue and cheek "lewd humor" about her own appearance is both not meant to be taken literally (no she does not *literally orgasm* when she turns into She-Hulk for the first time) but also in general it is just not "sexist behavior" to do so period.
You can rearrange any of those in any which way and the point still stands.
She uses the fact that she *knows* she looks good as a way to command control of the room and get what she wants.
It'd be sexist if she used that as a way to say all men are idiots for falling for her and finding her attractive.
Or if she ran around saying she had women specific problems and that somehow made her infinitely more qualified to solve a problem more than any male superhero ever could.
OR have her *literally say she can control her Hulk form better than Bruce because she's got better emotional control and been through more trauma because she's a woman*
THAT is what *Modern Day* She-Hulk and the Disney+ series had her do.
THAT is something you can say She-Hulk does that's sexist or problematic.
But how she's written in *this* show though?
No. Nothing about her is "problematic or dated" in this show in anyway.

The only Hulk cartoon from the 90s I liked is the Second Season feature Hulk and his cousin jennifer the She Hulk because it's light and funny than the First Season of The Incredible Hulk. Plus my favourites episodes are "Down Memory Lane" and "Fashion Warriors" since it feature Gargoyle's obession for She Hulk, it's a shame that the series had come to the end because I would like to see more of Gargoyle trying to win She Hulk's heart.

This guy complaining about the She-Hulk character in the show is a perfect example of how bland “inoffensive” takes on these characters ruined Marvel over the last decade.
When it comes to she hulk I think her personality (Except most of times she's outright flirty or objectifying herself) is a lot better than how she's portrayed elsewhere. She kicks ass, can be legitimately funny and is an actual help to others rather than just complaining about things like misogyny and being a woman (Yes I'm referring to the Netflix series). The biggest problem I think is how the world around her reacts to her because especially in that time, I don't think every person would be doing the wolf routine over her in fact I think some would be very judgmental of her looks showing she isn't completely free of the same judgement the hulk gets.

I hate hearing people complain about love interest having no powers and them being “in distress” as an issue.
They’re normal human beings, not everyone is well trained in hand to hand or should be.
Like calling her “dumb” makes no sense to me.
Her Red She Hulk transformation in the comics wasn’t necessary nor a good idea.
It made Betty much more negatively emotionally burdened than needed.
