It’s super a cheap one. The p’ups handle clean tones pretty well but not great with distortion added. The neck is nice. Good fret work. Switches and controls feel good. The body is thinner than standard, making it very light. I love the matte finish too. Needs a good setup and better strings. I bought it to keep in Eb tuning. Also I wanted to set the tremolo floating but that may not be an option. The tremolo is very poor!Overall, for the money I paid I’m quite happy. Cheers Lem🎶
I want to order one of these for my next project guitar. Change the bridge, get a short block, bone nut, Grover tuners, Alnico 5 pups, and Super Slinky 9s to start.
Started off with cliffs of dover intro bend and went into little wing and then yellow led better. Are those the stock magnetics? Sounds good. Oh we got some dirt and wind cries mary.
@@ThomDust Maybe it's your playing and whatever you have it plugged into but it didn't sound like a 120 dollar guitar. Is the neck playability pretty fast and smooth?
@@drewwesley9506 the tremolo system isn’t great. I like the clean tones and it handles a little “dirt” quite well. Not so much when distortion is added. For the price, I’m well impressed. I wish budget guitars were this good when I started learning ! ( BTW; I’m playing through a Vox Vt20+ , so not an expensive amp by any means. My Phone mic is picking up the audio ). Thanks for your comments 🤘
It’s a slim “C” shape neck. Very comfortable. No sharp fret ends. Nice satin finish on the back , so not “sticky”. The Nut really lets mine down. String slots are badly cut.
@@ThomDust I always found Squiers to have good quality and finely cut nuts but again they are built all ice with different materials. Fenders fault, most people don’t realize that a company can own the Design, Manufacturing Process and Bill of Materilas as well as training and certification of workers that means quality is consistent and place of origin won’t matter. Most companies are lazy and just throw a spec over the wall and say hey, build this for cheap or I go elsewhere then they turn a blind eye. Sorry I know it was a run on sentence.
@@bluwng the bad string slot is only on the G. A big bend on the G on the first 4 frets pop it right out of the slot. I’ll file it down but have ordered a new nut in case I go too far.
@@djizzah that’s a crying shame but seeing as guitar stores are few and far between nowadays, I’d begrudgingly adhere to their rules. I miss the days of walking into an actual store and agonising over what was appropriate to play.
@ThomDust yes, fender australia encourage you to buy online. One or two of the biggest stores have stock to try but fender won't let small stores distribute anymore
@@djizzah Sad times mate. It was so much better to go into a store and “try before you buy” rather than referring to UA-cam videos like this before ordering online. The Squier Strat in this video is the first purchase of a guitar I’ve made online. I’ve been lucky enough in the past to visit local stores to choose guitars. There’s none near me anymore. However, for the money it’s quite a good guitar. ✌️
Just having fun! I hadn’t installed the whammy when I recorded this. It’s a “straight out of the box” demo. I intend on setting up the trem floating but haven’t had time yet. It’s a fun guitar though, that I don’t have to be too precious about. ✌️
Wow! Thom, that is really fantastic playing. That’s why you’re my hero! Love it.
Thank you sir 🙏
Hey nice playing and that's a sweet little guitar. I just bought one for my wife and it should be here tomorrow. Seems like a great starter ax!
@@howdytoyer it is a great starter guitar. 🎶🎶
Sounds beautiful! Have fun. Nothing like a new toy in the collection. Have a great week.
Cheers Ric. Thanks for stopping by!
What a beautiful sounding Squier,
Love it, and your
playing Thom.
Keep it up buddy 👍 👏 💪 👌

I put a parchment pearl loaded pickguard with alnico v pickups and locking tuners on my Debut Strat. The upgrades made a huge difference.

nice one mate!
i have one the same color!
gonna do some "tasteful" mods to mine....

You got a real good tone. Would you say neck is more on the thinner side vs thicker….please say thin?

Instead of bending the hell outta the neck……why not use the whammy bar? It has one !

Fair enough👍
On budget low end guitar like this it will go out of tune if you use the tremelo bar.
You can mitigate that problem with a decent setup and a few tricks but you’re correct, tuning stability is troublesome on such a cheap trem system.
