I had a number of trucks with night heaters in back in the U.K. Brilliant in the winter or any cold miserable day or night. Nice installation 👍🏴🇺🇸
Good stuff! Got a good story for ya...My oldest brother came out of the military, got a new 1959 Chevy tractor and went on the road. He installed a propane tank behind the cab and heater in the cab. This truck had a gas engine and NO APU back then. He was out on the road during winter and the truck broke down, I believe somewhere in Pennsylvania. Well, not knowing how long he would be broke down, he turned on the propane heater and was able to stay warm, until the problem was fixed. What a SAVE! Good job on the install. Lots of extra wire for the shelf! 🧐 I wouldn’t have thought about the air intake direction versus the exhaust locations as much because I’ve never installed one of these. But after watching your video, I feel that I could do a good job, and I do usually think a step or two ahead when I do my work. I’ve noticed a few trucks with the Espar heaters and I’m not sure that they were professionally nor correctly installed. Some people don’t seem to care if the exhaust is bumping against the fuel tank. “Let’s just get it installed and done...it doesn’t have to look good!” I just DON’T care for that attitude myself! So, another good job and another step closer to having Old Red set up the way you want her. 😎 Hey, are you using her now for anything or is she just sitting around waiting? I’m sure that if something comes up, and she’s just there ready, you take her and get down the road. I know you have the Mack and probably keep it busy, right? That’s probably what motivated you to get another truck, other than the fact that Ol Red was just setting around, rotting down and you just had to save her! 😎 By the way, I’m glad that you did save this fine piece of Pete history! 🥰
My company has had WEBASTO heaters on all our day cabs for about 3 years now. It is a game changer! Can pre set it to come on at a set time for a set period of time. Prevents cold starts as the block, oil, and coolant are warm. Also nice to fire up when sitting for a load to keep warm. Nice install Ezra!

love this type of content im in my 20s and i hope to own a old school pete soon in the next few years iv been driving for 3 years im saving up for a truck to become an owner operator 💪🏼
Owner/op is worth it. Just get the right truck from the start or you’ll hate your first year. If you have to wait a little longer to get the right one don’t hesitate. And by the right truck I mean something you don’t spend all your time and money just to keep going.
I know it’s not a semi, but I just finished cleaning up all the excess wiring from my lighting, power steps, programmer, etc, this past summer on my dodge diesel. Ended up with tons of extra wire after cutting and splicing to clean it up. Love your vids ezra! 🍻
Looks like a great addition to your rig. I've watched all the videos in this series I like how you throughly explain what you are doing and the reasons for your decisions.
great piece of kit ezra,i have been thinking about installing one in my trailer ,they sure were one of the best inventions for truckers,as a young trucker i like many others had to suffer the engine running all night and in very cold conditions we had to cover the grill with fertiliser sacks to let the engine get warm and i carried a 6foot tarp to throw over my blankets to get warm.
Good job buddy I really injoy the videos I've learned alot on these old trucks. You would make a great teacher may God bless you and keep the wheels turning my friend.
agreed, got a d2 in my 88 379, its bout 6 years old still works great, does need maintenance n clean out but is very mechanic friendly! i carry spare screens just in case
Do you still have the sheathed 2 conductor wire? I could really use that to fix my furnace, if you would like to get rid of it. Winter is coming up and I live full time in an RV. My furnace is run by the AC and the furnace side of the thermostat stopped working. I have a new digital wall thermostat but no wires to run through the wall. I was hoping you might be able to help.
heard many folks rave about these heaters. they all have the same opinion of the chap knock offs. i like the connectors not being pinned. much nicer installation that way.
I got window screens and a big fan to blow air in the cab. As long as I’m alone somewhere like a freeway off ramp I can sleep even when it’s pretty hot.
Nice clean install Ezra. I can appreciate a clean job from many years of custom audio installs before I started turning wrenches full time. Cant wait to see the interior go in. Super excited for you to hear that the Day Cab company got the panels done and on the way!

The exhaust on that little heater is a lot hotter than you think! Keep an eye on your plastic fender if you’re running heater for any length of time sitting. I have personally seen what damages they can do. But they will keep you warm 😎
Might look closer on camera but there is more than 2 feet from the end of the exhaust and the closest part of the fender it's closer on my mack with no issue

It cannot be used as auxiliary fan, its heat or nothing. Our fuel is winterized across the country from November to March and like me, I imagine Ezra runs an anti gel additive in the winter. I've been adding a quart of ATF to each tank during the winter since the ULSD was mandated. With a Webasto the unit shuts off when there is less than 8.8 volts available. Pretty sure Espar would have the same features. Depending on the temperature and how much the unit works I've had it run 12-14 hrs continuous. If you're home every night I ran mine at a lower cab temperature there's nothing nicer than hopping into a 75 degree truck to flash it up when it's -20 outside. working your truck for 6-8 the next day should top up your batteries but you'll be changing batteries every 2 years minimum.

run good fuel in extreme cold and it shouldn't be a issue.
Does it drain batteries if you run it 10 hours?
With a Webasto the unit shuts off when there is less than 8.8 volts available. Pretty sure Espar would have the same features. Depending on the temperature and how much the unit works I've had it run 12-14 hrs continuous. If you're home every night I ran mine at a lower cab temperature there's nothing nicer than hopping into a 75 degree truck to flash it up when it's -20 outside. working your truck for 6-8 the next day should top up your batteries but you'll be changing batteries every 2 years minimum.
@@crackermcwhitey1364 thanks for your detailed reply.
There amp draw is pretty minimal after initial startup. As long as you have decent battery's running it for 10 hours is not a issue
