That was a great video. Could you talk more about the guess-a-meter and and entering/exiting atolls? That entrance was pretty amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Bill, The TuamotusCurrentGuestimator is an Excel sheet made by Naval Architect/Marine Engineer Gram Schweikert. If used properly, a navigator can guess the lull current of a Tuamotus pass. You need to enter wind direction and speed over the past few weeks. You also enter wave height. The Guestimator will approximate the current inside the pass, and then you can "TRY TO GUESS" the time you will attempt your entrance/exit. Our first pass, we didn't GUESS it correctly, and had an exciting entrance, as you saw in the video. You can get the Guestimator online, just do a search. It works pretty good once you know how to enter the right information, and you know how to use it. Once we talked to the locals we timed our Entrance/Exits much better. But when we left Fakarava we had a problem getting our anchor up. I had to dive on the Anchor and untangle the chain with some corral heads taking about 40 minutes. So our "Exit" was fairly exciting! Depending on the wind and wave intensity, there may be no good time to enter or exit an Atoll. You can sail for a few days, show up, wait, and wait, and have to leave for a different atoll. Luckily this didn't happen to Aquarius and Magic. Best, Ken and Z
