Never heard a budgie speak so much! I've seen loads on here and he definitely speaks the most, what I've noticed the more sleepy they get that's when they speak the most!!!

A male can learn hundreds of words and even mix them up in new sentences that make sense and are relevant to the circumstances, but a female can't learn more than a few words, very rarely in the dozens. It's just parrot biology, the male is the one that has to impress the female, so he's very resourceful. I have two females myself, and they don't talk, not that I'm trying, and they're still very sweet, clever birds and a joy to have around. It takes a lot of patience to teach parrots, but it's equally rewarding. Just keep trying and you'll get there!

Think it's about time I commented on this - Had our budgie for 4 months now and he was a very timid bird, we found this video and now he jumps on our phone tweeting and talking back ( He knows a lot of words due to the previous owner teaching him ) Now he says "Where's Charlie" this video always keeps him occupied! So now he has his friend Charlie to play and talk with everyday it's so bloody cute. Thanks for this :)

My budgie was called Charlie. She was a female. RIP Charlie. You left me too soon. Even though your beak it’s last had bit me, that tumour was bad and the vet didn’t think you’d survive surgery, I did the unselfish thing and let you go. She never bit anybody else just me. Mum said she knew I was scared of her but I was only scared of her because of the amount of times she bit me. Still loved her though. That was in 2007 she died at just 2 years old.

I used to shout for mine from our front room and she would fly to me from the backroom. Then tell me what she had done during the day. I couldn't understand what she was saying because she would just ask "what you doing doing doing!?" Then say "Bill, Bill, Bill!" and "Pretty, pretty pretty at 2000 times a minute!" Lovely though!
Charlie is my favorite of all the birds on utube He has a very large vocabulary and understanding of the words, not just repeating what he's heard. Birds that just repeat have a tendency to repeat commercials as the TV seems to be running in background of all our western lives and commercials have a louder, brighter, rhythmic flow that birds and children pick up on. His lack of commerial type comments like 'where's the beef?' Leave me to think he is understanding what he is saying, not just repeating for treats

I got a five week old budgie about four months ago. he or she has just started trying very hard to talk in the past couple of weeks, but in the first few days I had Sunny he was so lonely he took to my finger right away and whenever he looked sad I bounced him up and down and said pretty bird and within a day his search chirp was an attempt to say pretty. Like one time out of ten or twenty it would sound like pretty but the rest of the time it was two syllables rather than one. So when he started making his little noises about a month ago, I always acknowledged him as trying to speak and gradually those noises got louder and I would also imitate his noises and the next phonetic sound on either side so that he'd get the idea about experimenting with speech. Now he says pretty clearly and is showing recognition of the word bug and he says something that sounds very close to pip squeak so I make sure to say that too him too. or her, I don't know at this age.
It wasn't until now that I realized that budgies are actually parakeets. (We call them parakeets in the U.S.) I've seen lots of parakeets but never one talking, let alone like this!

In the US there are varieties of Parakeets, these are the Budgie variety. There are other species that go as big as the Indian Ringneck Parakeet. Parakeets are Parrots with the long pheasant like Tail feathers that point down.
My Chippo 🐦 and after him, Bubbi 🐦, had quite extensive vocabulary, could give logical answers, ask for food, count to four, swear (of course😂).. When my dad passed away, Bubbi asked for a year: "Where's grandpa?"😢

That is cute, but *please* consider getting a second budgie friend for your little guy. There's no replacement for budgie/budgie interaction.

My budgie's name is also Charlie 🐥 and he was excited to hear his name on TV 😊 he doesn't talk. My other budgie, Blue 🐦 left us 3 months ago 😕💔, he used to talk a lot.
