Bob even though i was in Australia by that time i can still remember that terrible tragedy, such a cruel loss of life. This type of event should NEVER be forgotten.
It's been the worst Welsh disaster in my lifetime Jim, and I remember the shock that resonated throughout the area when this terrible thing happened...it was the loss of those young lives that affected so many people....Best wishes from Wales...Bob
A wonderful an fitting tribute to those who were taken on that fateful day 50 years ago Bob. I was 19 years of age but was at an age where I was unable to fully express my feelings. Through many tragic mine losses in Ayrshire, I can now appreciate the brief felt by those folks so many years ago. May God grant the survivors the peace and rest in Him to finally put to rest the turmoil of the past. Thanks Bob for a wonderful video! With best wishes as always. Ken
Thanks very much Ken, it was the tragic loss of so many children that was the most upsetting part of this terrible disaster, and although I have visited Aberfan several times since, it's always an emotional time...Regards...Bob
Lovely filming Bob, my wife & I just watched it and both agreed it was far better than the cliche'd news reporting. The pictures told the story of something we both sadly remember far too well...... Many thanks, Brian.
Thanks very much Brian, I must admit, after seeing so many TV cameras that very little footage was used, but I was pleased to get some of the coverage, as like you, I remember it vividly when it happened in 1966....Regards...Bob
Well done Bob... I was 8 years old when this happened, the same age as many of the children that died 50 years ago. Camera teams from all over the world and our own Bob Masterman capturing this tragic memory, thank you. Kind regards, John.
Hi Bob, what a wonderful tribute to Aberfan. I am planning to do the very same in a few weeks. Great minds hey! But am planning a series of Photos on a dull grey day just like 50 years ago. I was in an English lesson in school when this tragedy occurred. I will always remember where I was when it happened. I last visited Aberfan memorial garden 20 years ago when I was working in the village. Thanks for sharing, Geraint
Thanks Ger, I was working on BR at Davis Street at the time, and with many colleagues from the Merthyr area, it was a terrible shock....Looking forward to seeing your upload...Bob
Hi Bob,yes indeed, terrible disaster. Seeing the miner ( very good carving) .was visiting welsh relatives think I was about 12 . Old uncle Ted gave me his brass Davy lamp I could sense the faces drop, so I took it back a few years ago, back all nicely polished, by then uncle Ted had gone. Got a photo somewhere if it......Dave
A very nice tribute to all who were lost and bereaved by this terrible disaster Bob. Very good work with the camera covering the visit of HRH Prince Charles also. Regards, Jeff.
Thanks Jeff, with so many press and security staff about, it wasn't easy...but I was pleased to have had the opportunity to be there on this significant anniversary...Regards..Bob
This tragedy was part of The Crown on Netflix, a nightmare to behold, all those little souls may they be resting in peace... Sending you all love and prayers from America!
It was one of the worst tragedies in my lifetime Paul, and to see the gravestones where many have photographs of the children who last their lives has always been a hard thing to watch...Thanks for your kind comments....Bob
Many from America are just learning about this devastation because of Season 3 of The Crown on Netflix. I was 5 in 1966, and I have older siblings. If we had by chance been born Welsh, we were right in the age group of the victims. God bless this beautiful community. God brings good from evil.
A very moving tribute to the people who died at Aberfan back in 1966 Bob....I remember it so well, being 10 at the time and living in an ex Coal Mining Village in Swansea..( Which had it's own disaster in the 30's and was sealed permanently.) I was totally shocked at that time...being the same age as some of the Children that Died....Thanks for sharing this with us...so glad You covered it...Best regards....Steve.-:)
Thanks very much Steve, for obvious reasons, I was very restricted in where I could go, but it was was pleased to have been able to to this much. I was working on the Railways in Cardiff, and vividly remember this event and the shock wave that spread across the World when the News broke....Best wishes...Bob
Great that Prince Charles had the time to speak to both young and old on his way down the road. You have made another video of a memorable day. Thanks Bob.. Mike.
Thanks Mike, Prince Charles and his Mother has attended Aberfan several times in the past, and his attendance is greatly appreciated by the community...Regards...Bob
So pleased you covered this Bob. It was one of those horrific events that stays in the mind through life and probably one of the first disasters that unfolded on TV. There's a very good piece on the BBC website about the events of that sad day which I was reading earlier. How scandalous it was that the NCB wanted money from the disaster fund to remove the remaining tips. You can't quite comprehend how a whole generation of children was lost in moments and had warnings been acted upon earlier it needn't have happened
Thanks Austin, I was working in Cardiff back in 1966 when it happened, and remember it vividly. I had intended going to the Cemetery today, but there was too much going on on this very emotional time for those who lost family and friends....Regards...Bob
A very fine and fitting video tribute Bob. What you have achieved without (I assume) the benefit of a Royal Rota pass is very impressive. Many thanks, Bill.
That's very kind of you Bill, all footage was hand held, and being aware of the obvious restrictions at such an event, I was able to get some of day's events...Best wishes...Bob
Thanks both. it was quiet and serene for most of the time, with everyone deep in their thoughts about this terrible disaster from 50 years ago...Regards...Bob
Another well produced video Bob. It must have been quite difficult to be discreet with almost as many press and police present YOU DID A GOOD JOB ONCE AGAIN...................Mike
The facts are, the miners were scared to kick up a fuss about the tips, as that would put their employment at risk, the pit would close as unviable, its a cheap way to just put waste on the hillside close the the colliery. The tip was built up on a spring that everyone knew was there. That is criminal negligence Nothing to do with the masons, just poor planning, poor NCB management and safety concerns ignored. Its ironic that the industry that made the towns and created employment, killed a generation of younsters. Its so sad.
It is indeed Ruthie, I remember the incident as it happened, and to see all the images of the children that perished on the rows of head stone in the cemetery, is something never to be forgotten...Thanks for your comments....Bob
My heart hurts to think of all those lost . Those left behind forever affected by the sorrow and grief . A whole generation was cruelly taken & it was preventable shame on greedy coal companies using village as a resource. No regard to their Safety
I remember it well Kay, a terrible tragedy, and it was always very emotional to see all those young people who lost their lives, laid to rest in that Cemetery. Thanks for your comments.
As a relative of the victims...I dont understand why the English monarchy had to hijack this event.....its so ironic considering it was the UK what caused the disaster. the ITV report was very upsetting as it only showed a rich family who never visited normally
I was watching a BBC program only this morning, showing the real stories behind the disaster, and I found that difficult to watch....The strength of the local community shone through, and made you very proud of being WELSH!...How it's all been for those of you directly involved cannot be imagined....Best wishes...Bob

Thanks Chris, I also remember it and the complete shock that spread throughout Wales and across the World...Regards...Bob

Thanks very much, I remember the original disaster, so tried to cover this important milestone, and share it with those that weren't there...Bob
R.I.P to all who were lost 50 years ago. It was well before my time, but my parents remember it being on the news and the sense of shock.
I remember it vividly Chris, and was so pleased I could be there today...Bob

excellent video remembering a day I will never forget dave
It's still a moving and powerful thing Dave, and I was so glad I was able to visit today...I remember it when it happened back in 1966.....Bob

Indeed James....I remember this terrible tragedy, and a stark reminder of what terrible conditions existed in the Valleys back then.
It's so tragic that everywhere the townsfolk look, they see reminders of this awful tragedy and a generation lost. 😢😢😢
It is indeed Ruthie, I remember the incident as it happened, and to see all the images of the children that perished on the rows of head stone in the cemetery, is something never to be forgotten...Thanks for your comments....Bob
That was very good Bob
Thanks James, just a small contribution on this sad day, unfortunately I vividly remember the day it all happened back in 1966...Bob

Really wow
All very sad Nife, so many young lives cut short 50 years ago during this tragic event....Bob
♥️
Thanks very much, I'm glad you've enjoyed it.
Does he really care?
I think he does Annette, and this is obviously part of his duties, we rarely see him in Wales though, despite his title.
