Hey! I'm Alanna - a thirty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.

From childhood memories of ‘snowballs’ and Advokaat, I will pass on the eggnog, but the rest was hilarious and I am so sorry I can only award one thumbs-up.
As a child of the '80s the Snowball is a fundamental Christmas memory.... 😂
The chaos of Alanna's "cooking" videos are both a lesson in surrendering my own hang ups on doing it right or not at all and delighting in the creativity of others.

The building tension in these videos where Alanna gets very slowly and progressively pissed are like a fine Chekhov drama.
You can use the other end of the spoon for "pinches" from a seasoning jar.
I loved this, Alanna. I'm so glad to see you in the Christmas spirit (hic 😊), enjoying what you're doing. Yes, I did know about Eggnog and its heritage as I was once a Cocktail bartender, I don't think you whisked it enough so, it ended up more like Advocaat which has exactly the same ingredients as Eggnog, Advocaat is thicker and more custard like, as Eggnog is thinner and more fluffy due to the whisking.
Great to watch somebody getting slowly pished! LOL! Your vlog on PM Churchill wartime drink regime was a classic!

My favourite xmas tipple is hot buttered rum.
Take a 1 pint mug as used in beer tents at folk festivals.
Put in a good sized lump of butter and a large spoon of muscovado sugar.
Half fill with boiling water. Stir until the solids have dissolved.
Top up with good dark navy rum.
Merry Crimbo and hohoho.
Another excuse to get drunk eh Alanna 😂😂😂.

I had so much fun watching your video :) It seems that you really enjoyed the process of making it. I like your sense of humour and how precisely you follow the recipes :) I hope you do another one at some point in the future (making European foods or drinks, so that the finished product would be unfamiliar to you so we can all enjoy your first impressions after tasting it).

This one was brilliant Allana. I love the 'we don't have that but we do have..' bit as I've had to do this so many times over the years but not making a cocktail. I've had to 'substitute' stuff when making from scratch a curry when I'm away from home. Anyway a top video with brilliant improvisation and like you I also find I have to wash up every single item in the kitchen plus maybe some borrowed bits. Surly this should not happen just to boil an egg (joking.... or am I?). Many thanks for sharing.

Haha Alannah, you follow recipes the same way I do. Well, it says this, but I don't have it so this will do instead, right? Put exactly 25g - add a bit more, that'll do. Mmm. Forgot what I was doing. Oh yeah, wait half an hour, so either 5 minutes or 5 hours cos I forgot I was making something. And boom, whatever, that'll do.

I’ve seen Cherry Brandy in Tesco/Asda, but probably more common at Christmas (or that’s when I’m looking!) but always a good idea to ask a shelf-stacker… they generally know their stuff or can check on their tablet thingies!
Alanna add a shot of dark rum or schnapps to your mulled wine! Absolute game changer! Dark rum is my favourite and I don't normally drink dark rum. Trust me, just try it!

Cocktails at 10 am? That's fine. It's Christmas. I kind of lost track (about 11 minutes in) about whether you were following recipes or investing new drinks. Nigella has new competition. I don't think she is losing much sleep over it though. But she does have help from elves. I like the way you are building your own channel traditions such as Christmas videos about creating alcoholic drinks. I found this inspiring so tomorrow I'll be straight down to the offie to stock up on cocktail ingredients.

You need to try Buckfast straight from the bottle. It's a scottish speciality.
The martini looked the nicest although I’m not a massive fan of whiskey so my drink of choice for Christmas is Baileys. Wouldn’t mind trying a proper egg nog though. Merry Christmas!

Your local Off Licence would have had the Cherry Brandy and the syrups. Making EggNog, just buy a bottle of Advocaat and add a shot of extra brandy. 15ml = 3 teaspoons. Water can be weighed 10 ml = 10 gms.
My latest Edenbridge purchase is stuck in An Post's Christmas backlog, Customs cleared and IE VAT/Customs clearance fee paid just stuck in Dublin. Hopefully your Christmas card arrives before next summer, posted on the 12th. Merry Christmas Alanna and to the 'Butler'.

Another one of *those* videos - YESSSS! I'm giving this video 11 out of 10 boozed-up BritCanadians.
I didn't know there were Christmas cocktails we did in the UK. At Christmas I'm usually likely to drink beer, and personally I like to drink Sangria but that's just personal. I also occasionally drink mulled wine which is traditional at Christmas, I know people in North America usually drink eggnog, I don't but I think more people in the UK are doing this now, probably because they saw American's doing it. Also we usually have bucks fizz in my family, which is basically just a mimosa.
I'm not familiar with any other drinks people usually have at Christmas in the UK, maybe cider. I genuinely didn't know there were traditional Christmas cocktails until I saw this video.

I think the trick to mulled wine is soaking the raisin i alkohol. And adding a splash of alkohol. Last time i had added rom. Delish. It was in tivoli gardens copenhagen.
Ohh... Try 1:1 milk to condensed for the eggnog. A bit of nutmeg grated on top is a nice touch, if you like nutmeg.

Eggnog, turn it into a 'snowball' by putting between an inch to two in a half pint glass, a couple of cherries and fill with lemonade, delicious 😋.

Add some lemonade and a dash of lime to the eggnog and make a Snowball . Yummy and not as thick x
For egg nogg, try Warninks Advocaat a Dutch drink made with eggs and Cherry Brandy, merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
