How are you proud of this? Is it making you money or clout? Is this why?
Simply changing the words from "the boy who kicked Tom's head in" to "the boy who took that from me" puts a completely different aspect on this song, absolutely amazing!
Nice, I totally agree. Great spot
When she sings " I was far too scared to hit him but I would him in a heartbeat now" that hits different
Two different takes, original is anger in hindsight the cover is more like a survivor's tale. Cracking cover take
Lyrics in this version, with the original for comparison. You're welcome:
I remember -the- sickness was forever
I remember snuff videos
Cold Septembers
The distances we covered
The -fist fights- (first time) on the beach
The -Bizzies- (cops would) round us up
Do it all again next week
(An) Embryonic love
The first time -that- (yeah) it scarred
Embarrass yourself for someone
(Then you're) Crying like a child
And the boy who -kicked Tom's head in- (took that from me)
Still bugs me now
That's the thing it lingers
And claws you when you're down
I was far too scared to hit him
But I'd hit him in a heartbeat now
That's the thing with anger
It begs to stick around
So it can fleece you of your beauty
And leave you spent with nowt to offer
-It makes- you hurt the ones who love you
You hurt them like they're nothing
-You hurt them like they're nothing-
-You hurt them like they're nothing-
See I spent my teens enraged
Spiralling in silence
And -I- armed myself with a grin
Cause I was always the -fuckin' joker- (joke yeah)
Buried in their humour
Amongst the white noise and boys' boys
Locker room talkin' lads' lads
Drenched in cheap drink and -snide fags- (white bags)
(That's) A mirrored picture of my old man
-Oh- (screaming) God the kid's a dab hand
Canny chanter, but he looks sad
(And) God, the kid looks so sad
-God, the kid looks so sad-
She said the debt, the debt, the debt
So I thought about shifting -gear- (gears)
And -how- (then) she -wept- (worked) and -wept- (worked) and (she) -wept- (worked)
(yeah) Luck came and died -round- (around) here
I see -my- (a) mother
The -DWP- (Centrelink) -see- (sees) a number
-She- (She's) -cries- (crying) on the floor encumbered
I'm seventeen going under
-I'm- seventeen going under (yeah)
(I'm protected under covers)
(they treat you like you're 'nothin)
(then you just become a number yeah)
I'm seventeen going under
-I'm- seventeen going under
-I'm seventeen going under-
Thank you for doing this!!!
@@freeman7079 Is 'shifting gear' not understood in Oz as slang for selling hard drugs/heroin? Because that's the only change I don't get - it's the pressure of poverty pushnghim to desperate thoughts. 'Shifting gears' is a much weaker line IMHO.
@@andymcnishyeah I've never heard shifting gear as anything other than car lingo
@quinnwilliams2661 im from the same place as Sam Fender. It does actually mean selling drugs
@@npd23 yeah nah don't doubt that i've just never heard that before
Those Kelly bass licks are 🔥🔥🔥 and Georgia performing like she wrote these lyrics! 10/10!
That is refreshing. Almost takes a lead roll all the way up their
THATS SUCH A GOOD WAY OF PUTTING IT-
But she’d hit him in a heartbeat now 💪💪💪💪🦾💪🦾💪
Holy sh1t man, what a cracking version of a great song. Love the way they personalised it to themselves and to Australia. One of my hottest 100 votes for sure.
Camp Cope forever. What an incredible cover by a remarkable band. They will be missed!
they will be missed?
Man, what a set of pipes! This is my introduction to Camp Cope but it certainly won't be the last time I check them out. This is insanely good!
Me to 👌🏾
You've just stumbled across greatness
Welcome to the greatest fucking band to ever exist. Highly suggest you listen to their albums in chronological order. Also Georgia has alot of stuff on yt under Georgia maq live. And Kelly is a tiktok star iirc
The opener. Anna. Or west side story really show off her vocal strength and emotion if you liked this
@@tommylucatiel7911 Sagan Indian as well
Kelly’s bass playing is always such a highlight. The ladies crushed this!
Still obsessed with this incredible rendition of this amazing song. ❤️❤️
that feeling when you find a new band that absolutely blows you away and saves your day week or month.
I was worried that they were versioning a song that's a masterpiece performance in its original form and you can visualise it being wrecked a million ways but they found one of the niche ways to make it different but every bit as good as the original, and I think that's about the highest praise anyone could earn.
Very weird hearing ‘god the kids a dab hand’ and ‘canny chanter but he looks sad’ not in a Geordie accent!
canny strange like and how they changed other parts but not that part. Not exactly complaining as these lassies did a great cover and impressed me on my first time seeing/hearing them.
I am a Australian so seen them loads of times, they are bloody fantastic
They also said "so I thought about shifting gears" which might have missed the meaning of the lyric
@@onlinetuna definitely
I don't normally comment on Like A Version videos but I can't not on this one. Love the original, love this version, have been playing it over and over all morning long. Spotify asap please.
Them vocals, that sweet sweet bass, the tender piano and that slapbang drum kicking makes a perfect storm. What an absolute mega version !
I think I'm obsessed with this cover and I need to know more about this band. Wow.
2022's looking like a good like a version year, this is going straight into my hottest 100 count down list.
I always try to vote for one like a version and this is the one fo sure
The change from DWP to Centrelink hits so hard! Love this.
department of work and pensions also known as the dole
Great cover of a great song - the original is the best song I've heard in years. The clip of Sam Fender playing it live at Alexandra Palace is incredible.
The original is great but this I'm listening to this version on repeat all afternoon!!
bro this doesnt even compare to sam im sorry just doesnt
@@raffertycasey3338 I'm sorry about the testosterone 😢
@@SelfxMade32 sorry it sounded aggressive as fuck didnt mean it like that :) sams is still on a whole other level

woah. this kicked ass! always loved camp cope but I've never heard such banger range from Georgia before and I'm totally here for it
Best LikeAVersion ever! Listened to it so many times.
Love this version, heartfelt and beautiful ❤️
Georgia's drawl and accents put a whole new character on this song. As good as the orginal. Hands
Bloody unreal cover! How does this not have more views?
I love this version so much. The conviction, passion and talent alone
This is so under rated. What an incredible cover.
Can't COPE with how good this cover is!!! 🤯
See yourself out
Love that amazing bassline!
Waow from uk 🇬🇧 and loved the original but your cover 1000000 times better triple j much better than the uks radio one live lounge and I know my music ❤️💯
wow....very polished musicians on display. thankyou!
Holy shit. It is one thing to cover a song, but to capture the energy and emotion in the lyrics and of the original artist takes TALENT. Oof
RIP camp cope. love this version more than the original
This is the best song/cover, I've heard in ages, the bass is cool as. Nailed it hey! Well done girls!!
don't you love it when music makes you cry?
Wow, what an amazing rendition of this song! ❤
I really didn't know what to expect. Half way through I was smiling and adding it to my Like a version playlist. Awesome job girls you killed it.
One of the best covers I have ever heard, brilliant stuff.
What a voice! And music arrangement!
Love this, the Australian version
Aww HELL YEAH! So psyched to hear Camp Cope (faves) covering one of my other faves (Sam Fender). LOVE IT!
So happy to see this crew back in the JJJ studio!!
Didn’t sound like Camp Cope until it so very much did. Great sound as always ladies.
Those bass licks are bloody delightful
Powerful version of a powerful tune. Love CC's Aussie/feminine tweak to the lyrics
I love her voice so much!
this girl has beautiful enunciation
The way Georgia holds that note at 3:13 😇😍
This is a great performance and she owns this song.
I’m hooked!
camp cope just get better and better. love these women
Such an amazing, relatable song, and obviously a banger cover of it - but Camp Cope would slay whatever they covered. Some very excellent lyric changes too, that take out one uncomfortable line and makes it even more relatable.

wow, amazing song, amazing lyrics, amazing cover.
That, wa simply…..awesome! Love it! Full commitment to the song with your own slant. Great job!
they are all so freaking talented
Holy bass. Simply awesome, great stuff
Unreal voice! I’ll be following you from now on!
First I've heard them - wow! Truly impressive! Now I need to find the lyrics to this.... I read on NPR that their next album was a bit more gentle; haven't heard it yet, but I truly hope they haven't lost their edge and fire!
True talent 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Dear lord this is beautiful
I think this is going to be song of the year on Triple J........................................ I love you Camp Cope
Truly honoured the original but still with the classic camp cope sound, so so good
This is so fkn great! They are such an amazing band ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
i will never stop thinking about this
Why I love Triple J and Like a Version
Simply amazing, what a cover.
Lyrics are powerful AF when sung by this incredible woman
One of my favorite bands and one of my favorite songs. You could imagine the joy this brings me
Still awesome after multiple listens.
Wonderful cover. Beautiful bass lines.
Geezus! This is ridiculously good!
NAILED IT! Wow, straight to my top 10 this year for sure!
I’m waiting by the phone for this to get added to the like a version playlist on Spotify
Love how she replaces DWP to CenterLink 😅
They owned it! So, so good!
Super cover 👏 great voice, bad ass bass
That bass and those vocals. Damn.
Woah love that intro , that transition from straight singing , into stum singing ✌️
Done so beautifully and honestly, relate to it , thanks girls 👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️
God damn you all made some great music together. I'm really grateful to witness.
Love the piano intro and the way she straps on the guitar. Great version. Still hard to beat Sam’s acoustic version with Holly Humberstone, that’s ace.
Such marvellous drums (her cool style reminds me of Terri Moeller from The Walkabouts) and a MELODIC bass, not just one that makes "doomdoomdoom" all the time and that you don't notice and wouldn't miss at all! (But the piano and the singer aren't bad, either.) Since Runrig no longer exists, the best "Scots(wo)men" all come from Australia right now: Maq (!), Angie Mac(!)Mahon, Winston Mc(!)Call and - first and foremost - Hayley Frances Mc(!)Glone aka Hayley Mary from The Jezabels. How wonderful would it be to unite those four for a Like A Version session ...
I think this is such a good cover. Are no doubt would resonate with Australians in a way that the original may not. Unless you’re up with the northern slang.
So good!
Georgia Mac, You Babe! Great cover.
I love the bass line!! Rockkk
Amazing version. 👏👏
A real treat.
As someone just starting to learn guitar I can really appreciate how hard that is, and how easy you make it look. Keep it up. You all sound great
It’s very easy to play. Once you graduate from beginner you’ll discover this shit is easy compared to players like Mayer etc.
My new favourite band
jeez 🔥
Such an amazing LAV I felt all the emotions 🤍
Wow that was awesome…..great cover.
This rocks !!!
are u kidding me? this is fantastic
this deserves SO MANY more views
Thought about shifting gear could’ve been left, love the Centrelink switch though.
Goooooood energy 🙌🏻💕
Really great, didn't know what to expect... but by God, you guys are superb.
Thank you for posting
Camp Cope are the most important band in Australian music right now 🖤
So so good.
Absolute banger, can't stop listening!
