2023 UBC 3MT: Oleksandra Ostapenko (semi-finalist)

Oleksandra Ostapenko was a semi-finalist in the 2023 UBC Three Minute Thesis (#UBC3MT) competition. They presented their research, "Life in the Universe? Galaxy Cluster Gas Holds the Answers ."
"Are we alone in the Universe? Is life possible beyond our galaxy? The answer lies in the star formation processes that occur within galaxies," says Oleksandra. Their presentation looks at the star formation process and sheds light on the relationships between galaxy evolution and properties of the gas to answer the question of whether any of the galaxies has suitable conditions to form life.

#3MT is an academic competition that assists current graduate students with fostering effective presentation and communication skills.
