Hey Michael! I'm with you my friend I'm much more of a propeller head at heart. The carrier landings are a blast...such a challenge but a fun one! I will say though when I started flying the Avanti that was the first sport jet I really had the opportunity to really ring out and test its envelope. It became the EDF that found itself in the Explorer on the way to the field as much as my prop planes. It made me like flying jets more. Now I'm having a blast playing with the E flite Thunderbirds F-16. That thing is a high alpha monster. Still wouldn't give up my Cubs for them though...lol.
Hi Adam - now that looks a challenge , back in the day I flew Control line aircraft and we had Carrier landings - it was made from Ply and we had to move towards it and then bring the aircraft in to land it was about 4 feet of the ground and we did a LOT and i mean a LOT of rebuilds LOL... but this looks much more fun... that really is cool - brilliant !! - only thing missing is the TOPGUN sound track 😉😉😋😍

Very nice indeed, and I can't imagine how hard that is to do that with an RC model aircraft, much less a full scale jet on a pitching and heaving flight deck! You guys are awesome for even attempting this, and even MORE awesome for actually pulling it off! Kudos to the whole crew involved, definitely one of the more unique videos here on UA-cam involving RC model aircraft! Great job my friends!
Thank you brother John! Man Dustin is a very creative guy. He and his buddy Steven fly a lot of formation/chase FPV. They are fun guys to fly with. That’s cool! When I was a kid I had a Wenmax SBD light blue dive bomber control line with a tail hook and we would tie a string on 2 bricks and try to catch the string! But this is way cooler! 👍🙋♂️🖖🏻

Thanks for watching! It is a ton of fun to do. Very challenging but fun. The F-4 flies very well...this particular one is discontinued however FMS is coming out with a 80mm F-4 that I believe is the same plane. FMS makes a lot of the E flite EDF's and I think they made this F-4.
While these aren't landings you'd want your friendly LSO witnessing, this all shows terrific ingenuity and skill!! I am amazed that all this gear held up! I can testify that traps are an act of violence on both equipment and pilots. Great job, gents!

Watching this for me was a real blast. Especially since I do this with no wire on my little patch of Carrier field all the time. I love the wire setup, may have to try that some time! Essentially your doing a pinpoint drill with those landings trying to hit the same spot every time. Its how I do it on such a small space. The stabilization in the phantom Im sure helped a lot on those approaches. Seeing that gear collapse made me giggle since that is a very common problem with both the Freewing and eflite. Totally awesome video Adam!
Dustins got it made with the carrier system! I smell a challenge in the future of some sort... Similar sytem, cheaper plane, on the fields lake with a raft???
Really cool, guys. Great ingenuity and implementation! Makes me wonder if anyone has ever rigged up a system of deploying a parachute(s) from the tail of this model F-4 to simulate the way some of the Air Force guys make their final landing with the full scale version?
