- The sector gear steering in these older craftsman mowers SUCKS! They strip and end up with tons of play over years of abuse. The newer style that was introduced in 2002 was a much improved system but that was also the year they discontinued the opposed twin engines. So today we’re going to swap the steering from a newer style craftsman to our older tractor. It’s actually quite simple and only required a new drag link and the newer style steering assembly.

I really enjoy fixing them up and I put to much in them to resale cheap
But my large family is who gets the befits of it
Raise ing kids is so high now so it’s a way to help them
I can tell you enjoy doing what most people can’t and making it happen is such a joy
Make a cardboard pattern and it will come in handy later on, I know for a fact 😊😊😊

Yes please. I've read 2004 to 2007 LT1000 but some of the older LT2000 may work as well.
On my LT1000 the steering gear configuration is different than shown. I can't find a video that shows my configuration. I'm not sure how to explain it.
Dude, need some lighting to highlight what your trying to point out.
My rider is like yours with the Kohler. The steering is sloppy at the top not the bottom. I remove the 3/4 nut on the steering wheel and it is stuck. I pulled quit hard but it is not budging. It there a catch that needs to be released and I am not seeing it. I hate to beat on the bottom side of the steering wheel and cause further repair. Help please.
Do you know what would need replaced on the new steering unit if that is very sloppy and has a lot of play in the steering wheel? Similar to the old one when that rubber boot wears out?

No gas tank or battery to give you room I believe.
The reason none of that stuff works is there is no lubrication on any of it. NEGLECT is why. Why don't people learn what grease is for and how to use it?!
