I have a '21 800xc and it at times won't shift properly, but not to that extent. I just rock it back and forth a little or tap the gas to make it move a couple of inches and it goes right into gear.

Hold the brake then push start, if it's not in park..

Engine braking depends on keeping the rpm up just enough to keep the primary engaged with the belt. Shifter rod can be adjusted, takes about 10 minutes and makes a world of difference. Change out the main 40 amp fuse located behind the radiator reservoir(Black connector, unlabeled), cut the connector out completely and solder in an aftermarket fuse holder with 40 amp fuse. Don't run through deep water when the fan is running, it'll instantly blow the fan fuse. Flush the radiator fins with a garden hose, it'll overheat if it gets packed with mud/dirt. My 21 800 xc runs 3 bars on the gauge, when it hits 4 the fan kicks on. 7-8 psi in the tires, itll ride like a Cadillac. The gray lever on the front part of the left control is the overide for low/reverse gears. Mine hits a limiter at 21 mph in low, pull that lever and it'll fly. Run low gear at anything under about 15-20 mph, deep water or mud, or pulling a hill or trailer, your clutch and belt will live a long and happy life.

Just rock the quad forward and backward and it should pop in gear. I got the same one but mines a 2020 and I love it. No problems so far

I’m really liking mine also especially riding a passenger it handles the terrain a lot better than my Foreman does with someone else on with me and that’s what I was looking for. Thanks again .

Soften up the spring preload by turning the collar with a spanner wrench.

Keep us posted on that shifter… it’s holding me back from buying one. I just can’t take that chance on our narrow trail systems..

I’m learning more and more about how to shift it like instead of easily moving the shifter just give it a quick jerk and it will move but it works smoothly a lot of the times now you talking tight trails I wish it would hold back better going down hill at a crawl because a lot of the places I ride that’s what I have to do but I will say it handles the terrain better than my Honda especially riding 2up. My son-in-law said his can am was the same way when he got it on a hill or in a bind someway so maybe that’s just the way it is with this kind of atv.

Probably as you put some hours on it, your shifter might free up some.

Artic Cat had the same issue on their 2016 wildcat 700 model with the shifting. The issue with yours sounds exactly the same with shifting. When it gets warm it doesn't shift hardly at all. It is the clutch and clutch weights on the primary clutch. They don't release therefore you are trying to force it to shift. If you just purchased this, take it back before the warranty is expired. Artic Cat Cat knew their issue and failed to do anything about it.

I'll be out at Windrock from 30 August to 2 September, so maybe we will see each other out there?
