I don't think Devdas is one of those movies that hasn't aged well specefically because of how it's intention is to portray a loser guy and to what extent can a man is generally forgiven for being so pathetic. And the ending itself being not happy at all is proof of how everything portrayed in the movie is intentionally not right. SRK's character dies not because of someone else but because of himself. And all he does is hurt others. And everyone is unhappy because of him. I think this movie just shows toxic characters and mentality it breeds as it is without making a judgement about it. The judgement is rather shown as consequences.
In Bengal, there are two types of potatoes, one is Jyoti and the other one is chadramukhi. Chandramukhi is costlier because of us good quality over Jyoti, and we bengalis always like chandramukhi more. So we are also half Devdas.
Iam an Srkian, but I have always been critical about his movies.. If it is bad, it is bad!! But tbh, Devdas wasn't that bad as you guys are saying all those things!..the movie was meant to be dramatic and it is what it is! Srk is an egoistic-arrogant guy, ends up being even more toxic after being addicted to drinking and dies in his own arrogance..Aish is the girl that was Srk's first love but just like in real life,Srk couldn't move on with the heartbreak and Aish just wished for his well being! Madhuri played her role so well and she was the one that Srk should have moved on with but didn't deserved(Which Srk even refers to afterwards before leaving the courthouse) Jackie Shroff was the perfect friend, who always wants his friend to cheer up while healing/dealing with a heartbreak and depression!! Everyone did their role perfectly, the story was perfect for a dramatic movie..the ending was heartbreaking..u know what is coming up but you still wish for something else everytime u watch the movie is what this movie was made to feel for!!!
Abbas you should invite people of your generation or older to discuss these classics. The younger ones don’t appreciate these movies the same way nor do they relate to the time period when these movies were released.
You are missing the whole point of this pairing...its a 1 hour podcast and urjita brings the much needed comic relief...they are aiming for an entertaining episode not a masterclass in the movie and it seems to work
That’s the whole point of the podcast named “has it aged well”. I will always have a bias towards a movie I watched as a child one of the reasons being nostalgia, but someone who’s not attached to the film if he/she still appreciates the film then it means it stood the taste of time. Casablanca is still a classic and so is Mughal-e-Azam.
Such stereotype of Punjab. Nana Patekar is quiet,Satyajit Shinde is quiet. Kiran Kher acted as asked by director. Mumbaikars are biggest hypocrites is the thing I love realised after watching these podcasts.
@@ghanshyamsinghsharma6656 lol most experts who have seen Dilip kumar and Bengali devdas adaptations said this devdas butchered all previous adaptations and was worst. even I could see that while watching it. SRK face expressions were over top and funny to watch.
@@thiruvetti lol what? Dilip sir himself admitted if anyone could have replaced him in this role would have been Srk!!.. It's a theatrical act kinda movie, not the typical big budget drama movie!! It's not made for a general audience to enjoy, even the critics were all bashing the movie after release.. But praised it later on!! If u have not enjoyed,it's because you don't like such drama movies!! You don't have to be so critical about what others liked!!
It was cringe then but it’s cancerous now. All the social context and commentary is lost to ott melodrama and glorified self sabotage of a manchild caricaturing Bengali society and culture really badly.
i mean,, this abbas is an asshole... fr not liking devdas...... it was perfection..... each frame to look on,, i have always been a fan of over dramatic dialogues...
Devdas is a story written like more or less 150 years ago......hence proved Devdas itself is an ageless movie made whenever it may
My Fav movie. Shahrukh done a great job. And bhansali's direction is just wowwwwww

@urjita @abbas : Chandramukhi part 2 is the entire plot of Kalank.
SLB wasn't the first to show daddy issues. Amitabh Bacchan did a ton of those films in the 70s. Deewar, shakti and trishul are some examples
Forget Mard
Loved your dynamic! went back and watched the movie after finishing the ep

The theories behind broken mirror should be made into a reel! Such beautiful theories ❤

Please do sairat vs dhadak in next ep. How bollywood ruined sairat or many regional good movies by remaking it.
Omg!! Abbas.. That's not Sharmila Tagore in Charulata.. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
My bad. I stand corrected. It's Madhabi Mukherjee. Thanks for pointing that out.

Woh Singh is King mei sheesha tutta h coz new King ko Goli maarta h na?!

It was cringe acting by SRK when I first watched it. Its cringe even now.
Dont know how people could stand his overacting in that movie
It is not cringe. Read the play. He did it well.
