Sometimes no matter how good the music is the audience can’t seem to separate them from their tv character in order to take them serious as a music artist.

Luckily these ladies found success in other ways! Sometimes the gift of voice does not mean you should be a singer. I can sing, but that doesn't mean I get to be famous. I don't want to be. I can use my voice to bless my children, family, and friends. You can also be a music teacher, professor, musician, and many other things. People forget that just because you can sing does not mean you need to be famous for it. It's kind of like football. Just because you can play doesn't mean you will make it to the NFL. NO shade, just insight. I used to feel pressured to be a famous singer. I felt like because I was gifted with a voice I should be paid for it. Sometimes your voice can do more than make your money. It can move people. Even if that is just temporary.
@Un Bothered because that is what brings her happiness. You were trying to be shady with that basement comment. Not everyone wants fame. Like SHE SAID, just Bc music is your gift doesn’t mean singing is your ministry. It could be in other areas of music. Have a better week.
A lot of these talented black woman's careers never took off because in the late 80's and into the 90's the music industry started to divest from black r&b wholesale. Black women singing/performing is a positive form of energy healing. It's one of the ways we have survived this racist system. White racist corporate America has always promoted destructive negative energy when it comes to black people. The labels got rid of their black music departments so even if a black artist was signed they had no one with experience to push their music. It's by design to enforce anti black agenda. That's why in 2020 THERE ARE NO all black chart topping singing groups, men or women. How is this possible when we have been singing since we were stolen and brought here?
I always jammed out to Countess Vaughan when she was in that group on the parkers😂. However she went downhill a little bit when she made the song Do you love him🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
I think what was holding them back was the writing. A lot of these songs have kind of generic writing that doesn't connect with audiences. Most successful albums have unique writing that makes the songs pop.
You mean back then, right? Because today, the writing formula is the same: Sex + Money + Vagina + Money + Violence + Money + Colourism/Degrading Women + Money + More Sex = Successful Album. Add a little racially-ambiguous twerking to the MV and the album is certified Gold! I MISS THE DAYS OF UNIQUE WRITING!!!!
I just think they had a bad management/promotion team behind them. Because I love the 90’s/2000’s but there were quit a few generic songs that hit the billboards
@@everythinggreen3128 naw it just sounds like you just listen to the same generic music because there are plenty of good artist out there that sing & rap about way more things then that

Why Tatiana didn't release another album her album had three successful singles and went gold that sounds like a successful album there was no reason not to have a blockbuster follow up to that
Brandy and Monica killed her career. I think the material that Tatiana had wasn't nearly as strong as the material other young women at the time had. At the time Aaliyah was on fire and Brandy and Monica had just released 'The Boy Is Mine' and Monica's second album was about to drop. Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were also new on the charts.. And lets not forget Beyonce emerged as the lead from Destiny's Child at that time too.

I kinda notice how these labels didnt know what to do with these singers, a good few of which had very strong vocals- meanwhile the labels were able to push say, a white girl with a softer weaker voice to the top of the charts. Not saying race was 100% a factor why they flopped, but its just my little observation idk

Amen👏🏾
@Un Bothered let her do what she want to do.
I agree with you. This is super insightful.
@Un Bothered not the basement 😂
@Un Bothered because that is what brings her happiness. You were trying to be shady with that basement comment. Not everyone wants fame. Like SHE SAID, just Bc music is your gift doesn’t mean singing is your ministry. It could be in other areas of music. Have a better week.
This was a really good video, excellent topic. Only people missing are Tisha and Tishina they should have been number one they both can blow.
How do y’all comment so quick? 🥴
Lol because 😂😂 we love this channel
We be WAITING on UA-cam 🙂 🤣
I get excited when I see a notification 😃😃😃🙃

Cuz that intro is iconic and we need it 😂🥰
A lot of these talented black woman's careers never took off because in the late 80's and into the 90's the music industry started to divest from black r&b wholesale.
Jasmine guy and Tatiyana Ali were definitely robbed of a successful music career
Definitely because I completely forgot how good Tatiana’s music actually was.
Jasmine Guy didn't want to go further because of industry demands.
@@khrisi9410 ohhh damn that’s unfortunate

I definitely adores Tatyana Ali’s song “daydreaming”. It was my favorite underrated song on the top. 🎶
Taral, Countess, Jasmine, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tatyana Ali were (and still are) so so so pretty!
Their careers probably didn't set-off because they chose not to sell their souls.
No because they were already famous...
@@leiahdavis1908 no 😑

You forgot to add Tisha Campbell in this one
Good one! And Coco Jones

No to Tisha Campbell. That song push was not it.
I like the cd and the new stuff from the past couple of years
awe countess vaughn’s little voice was so cute
I always jammed out to Countess Vaughan when she was in that group on the parkers😂. However she went downhill a little bit when she made the song Do you love him🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️

Taral Hicks is so beautiful and l never thought Jasmine Guy could sing
I loved Daydreaming by Tatiana Ali
Yea
Me too...
They had better voices than some of the people who's out now.
@@TheLovesnowangel Bad management is also a definite factor.
@@everythinggreen3128 naw it just sounds like you just listen to the same generic music because there are plenty of good artist out there that sing & rap about way more things then that
I was thinking it to they all sound kind of the same I was a teen in the 90s I remember thinking that back then as well songs just sound robotic the writing sucked but they had a good beat
Jasmine should have been a huge pop girl and Tatyana should have been a huge r&b girl.
Coco Jones. Thats all imma say
Yeah coco was definitely a missed opportunity. Latifah should've managed her after "let it shine"
@Un Bothered shit, i do watch her UA-cam. And i dont get that from her at all. You didn't need to reply to this......and im sad you did.

Hi there, I know you’re in the comment section probably looking for comments about the video obviously LOL but I wanted to take the time to tell you that everything will fall into place in your life. Pain is never permanent, and the situations you’re in are totally and completely temporary. That’s the rule of life no pain or situations can last forever. Believe it or not but you can do this. You are so much stronger than you know. You know how I know? Because I am a human being too, and I have overcome the hardest battles! You can do it too! you can overcome everything you’re going through! You are precious, and you are an overcomer! We are doing this together! ❤️

@@mamadouaziza2536 well by that time in the late 90s Brandy could have hung up her hat and started acting because all her best material was already out in my opinion
Maybe she focused more on acting
She released an Ep some years back. Its on spotify and its pretty 🔥🔥🔥
@@hippopominy9 Brandy was acting in movies and on tv and releasing an album in 1998. She did it all, and her music is still good. Her best work didn't end with Never Say Never.
Just love her channel 🥰🥰
Yessss for the Countess. I've always loved her voice. And I love that someone appreciates it too. She definitely deserved better!
Good picks. You can throw Tichina Arnold, Tisha Campbell, and Raven-Symone on that list, as well.
@DESTINY HENRY Oh yea, Phylicia could throw down, too! I could see her as a jazz legend, like Nancy Wilson.
*BLACK FEMININITY TV* ...your channel is amazing. Keep up the GREAT work!
Jasmine guy was more like a Paula Abdul type.
Countess was done wrong, as are other (darker) skin black women out there!
Already love this video 🧡
ABSOLUTELY TRUE !!!
YOUR VIDEO WAS PHENOMENAL 🙏🏽💙
*Do y'all think their careers didn't really take off like that was because it was oversaturated & they didn't really do anything to stand out or the producers they worked with or just right place, wrong time?*
They played it too safe and bought nothing new or different to the table, I wouldn’t be surprised if record labels said, ‘but we already got monica, brandy, mariah, whitney, etc... we just don’t need another one’ sad but true🤷🏽♀️
Yeah, they were stuck in particular characters from shows they did & recording companies didn't know what to do w/ them.
@@yvonnebaltimore7729 I wouldn't say they were stuck in particular characters, but I'll say they were working with producers who were making their songs sound like everyone else at the time, who actually were doing those type of songs better.
@@IcebergTruPlaya good point!
Yep. The indusrty only had room for so many singers. Everybody couldn't get a record deal and everybody signed to a deal wasn't gonna be a music star.
I kinda notice how these labels didnt know what to do with these singers, a good few of which had very strong vocals- meanwhile the labels were able to push say, a white girl with a softer weaker voice to the top of the charts. Not saying race was 100% a factor why they flopped, but its just my little observation idk
Like who??
@@SeanK1684 Countess Vaugn had a "mature voice for her age" but so did Christina. No shade to either of them but the industry just handles people wierd
@@acerowoodberry1236 I look at timin and a hit to me is a hit...You have no hits you don't sell...Bone Thugs was one of the biggest groups in their prime...They can't drop a hit now, cuz times are different...I agree Christina has a strong voice and if she appeal to her demographic then she will succeed...Brandy had hits Countess doesnt but it doesnt negate her vocals
Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell should've had successful music careers too 💙💙💙

I see people commenting that Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold should be here, I also think about Keke Palmer and Raven Symone too. Though they both still do music, I wish their names would be bigger in the music industry.
Hopefully you'll have a video that covers black male actors that can sing. I can definitely see Darius McCrary , Jason Weaver, and Terrence Carson up there.
