    I am 100% Japanese and lived just outside Kinshicyo and it is safer than it used to be.
    There were Yakuza in Kameido and Hirai next door, but that was a long time ago. 錦糸町はそこまで危ない街じゃないしかつて同じ位荒れていた亀戸や平井も大変治安がよくなりましたよ。

    I would say they really cleaned up Kinshicho in the last 10 years really well; the last time I was there was 2018 and I stayed at the Moxy Hotel for a few days when I was in Tokyo for work. Prior to that, the last time I walked around the area was in the early 2000's (maybe 2003? I dont remember lol) and it was kind of a run down area, but nothing really "dangerous" that made me want to avoid the area.
    Also shameless plug: if you ever stay in that area, definitely recommend the Moxy hotel, especially if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member. Very unique boutique hotel and plenty of things to do around the hotel, less than 5 minute walk from Kinshicho station.

      @@rodyinjapan we made the mistake of staying there during new years haha but honestly the noise wasn't the issue. i'm just not used to people standing outside trying to convince you to go in etc. and it always look so shady when they talk to us. it was also strange that alot of these people are also foreigners speaking broken japanese and it just feels way more shady? lol

    • @FungusUSMC
      @FungusUSMC 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah I think some of the most expensive areas of the city like Roppongi had some of the most questionable areas at night, the worst being the Nigerian hawkers outside of nightclubs trying to lure you in. I always tell people if you encounter them, just smile and go about your business and do not let them lure you in. I learned from a friend who was not so lucky that by going in and ordering just a few drinks, they'll slap you with a a bill that's several hundred dollars US, and if you can't pay up, some "nice gentlemen" will escort you to an ATM outside to make sure you withdraw the money. He wasn't able to file a police report because surveillance cameras showed him "voluntarily" withdrawing money, no criminal charges could be filed.
      I've also heard horror stories of those same types of clubs spiking peoples drinks, or stealing peoples' credit card information. Of course this was back around 2009-2010, so I"m not sure if its gotten better in Roppongi since then. But the following years after I left japan in 2010, every time I go back to visit, I have avoided Roppongi completely.
      My advice to any foreign tourist wanting to party in areas like Roppongi is to leave their credit/bank cards in their rooms in the safe, and just bring cash. Also have enough money on their Suica/PASMO cards for a quick getaway on the train.

Sometimes, better to choose lively places at night in Tokyo to stay as tourist, such as Shinjuku, Kamata and surely Kinshicho. This place has unique hotels too. Lived in or around Tokyo for more than 25 years. Sometime during that period, I've probably been to Kinshichou, but I don't remember for sure. Watching the video, it looks not significantly different than anywhere else in Tokyo; in other words, incredibly safe by US standards. I also spent 10 years living in the town with the lowest crime rate near the Detroit area. Specifically, the place where multiple kids were murdered by a school shooter last year, Oxford. There is no comparison. Last I knew, the most dangerous place in Tokyo was Kabukichou, but even there does not begin to approach anywhere I've lived in the US. Why? I hate to state the obvious, but the #1 reason is that it's extremely difficult for criminals and crazies to acquire guns in Japan.

    I guess danger is relative to the one experiencing it. In Tokyo they include all types of crimes- pickpockets, graffiti, loitering, etc. So no actual danger from violent crime.

    • @JesseJapan

      @@Kurups101 Yakuza barely ever use guns these days. In Japan it’s EXTREMELY rare to ever hear a random gunshot. I think in the almost 3 years of living here I’ve heard one bang that sounded like…maybe a gun shot. I also live only 2 stops from Kinshicho and been there many many times. Never had a single issue. In fact the biggest issues I’ve ever had aren’t from random people or Yakuza lol, it’s from police randomly stopping me to do a residency check and that’s also only happened 4 times in the 3 years I’ve been here.
      Japan is incredibly safe. That doesn’t mean bad things don’t happen because they do. But violent crime is so incredibly rare that the news has nothing to report sometimes so they talk about someone random that popped their car tire whilst on the highway, or someone stealing something from a convenience store. It’s quite funny and bizarre 😂

    Kinshicho Dangerous? Come on haha. I live 2 stops from Kinshicho and been there many many times. Never ever had any sort of drama or issues in any area in daytime or nighttime. Hell, I was there at 11pm just walking around sketchy/old looking areas with my friend a few months ago and not once did we feel unsafe or uneasy.
    It’s crazy how the most “unsafe” area in Japan, is still safer than the safest places in most other first world countries 😂
    Actually there was one place in Japan where I felt rather uneasy and that was Naniwa in Osaka. Even then, it was only because it’s so run down and full of homeless people. I still didn’t really feel unsafe just not super comfortable.
