Man.. I’ll tell you why I subscribed to your channel. I am an Advanced engineer but always looking to learn. You simplify some very detailed techniques in a way that’s not that easy to explain. You’re very good at what you do and you teach incredibly well. Good job bro.
I have always does subtractive EQ before compressing inside my vocal chain. I don't know if I was just lazy or ignorant -- de messing is literally subtractive EQ. Just spent the entire day working on some vocals, with the de esser as my FIRST plug in. Total game changer!!!
Your an awesome teacher thankyou so much been learning from you for years now. I still go back and watch the old videos to remind me of stuff and then I learn something new I didn't catch the first time
Hey, good job, man. As someone who has struggled with sibilance, I appreciate this. I have done everything you mention, and I still have issues, to the point where I have gone in and manually turned down the esses. I do think many of today's condenser mic's are pretty sibilant for alot of vocalists. I am starting to use a ribbon mic for my voice, and my general impression, so far, is it seems to record a smoother version of my voice, with a noticeably better sibilant characteristic. Will know lot more soon.
Should you set the deesser after setting all other plug ins on vocals? My vocals raw recorded don’t have much sharpness to worry about but when I add all my plugins and the DEesser I get a lot of that s sound
Ayy you’ve got this teaching thing in the bag, your obviously a talented musician and engineer but theres something go be said for your delivery of information. keep up the amazing work @Help Me Devvon
Bro I Love your Videos...It would be so nice if you could do a video on the difference of mixing melodic rap/rap vocals to your main music. Thanks a lot your help is sick! 🤝
Help me devvon! For real though i bought a vocal pre set from your site a month ago it hasn't worked and when i reach out to support i get no response im a big fan but its been a struggle hopeing you see this 👏
folow you a long time ..im from sweden and i love your tips and trixs.. but if i cant route and stuff ( i use mixcraft 9) do you have tips for using d esser first or last .. no mather how i mix my s are awefull.. and when i mix i get my vocals clear and so.. but i cant get them to sound warm and full they sound thin and lifeless.. i tried doubled them but they are to dleayed and dont time no mather what beacuse my pc or something i dont have the money to buy vocal alligment.. can i use one vocal only and make it full?.. i rap and sing.. reagge rap and pop
@helpmedevvon could you do a review on the “Immerse Virtual Studio”? It’s suppose to bring selected professional engineers rooms to you through your headphones so you can have a better mix. They give a two week free trial! I also wanted your opinion on waves version but I see that you don’t use it 🤷🏾
Plz make one only one video on manual tuning of R&B vocals line by line according to the song key so that every vocals sound in key without being robotic voice..
Nice tutorial bro but for an amateur music producer have a small question. Is it bad to use a de-esser on the entire vocals even if there isnt any sibilance in it? Or like, not sure if i hear any sibilance but i will use an de-esser "just to be sure"

WTF's an "Advanced engineer?" 🤔 Yes he dumbs it down well to where even an infant can understand
@@biggusdickus7102 "I'll have you know that I'm a rather brilliant surgeon."
I agree. The way you explain is beyond great. You keep me very easily engaged and explain everything that’s not so easy, easily! Amazing!

De-easing acts like a subtractive EQ, but all it’s doing is compressing the constants of the vocal instead of attenuating the problematic frequencies.
What I love about your channel is that is coming from the voice of our genre. I really like how this technique works on your voice.
Your descriptions really paint a clear picture of the situation, and how to control it. My favourite channel by a mile...
That blue background is so calming… Mmmmmm

Do all de esser plug ins do thr same thing ? Is one de esser better than the other? Which de esser would you always recomend
I've only just fully grasped the potential of a de-esser and this video just clarified that! Thanks!
Uff muchas gracias amigo
Un DeEsser se puede usar para reducir la silbante, y también para reducir 'harshness" en el mid range de la voz ( o sea no las "s")
Loved the video, Thank you Devvon.
this is easily gonna be my favourite channel i can tell - the way you explain things is perfect

2:34 when you used the mannerism of an Uncle. i knew you are 'bout to be very serious.

Okay so the order or chain was like deEsser Eq deEsser right? In other words that was two techniques combined rather than separate?
Yessir I’ve been waiting for this 💯
this is too helpful - always important to learn something and refresh the knowledge

Hey Devvon! Do You apply Deesser before or after EQ-ing?Thanks!
question, if i pitch shift a vocal, that changes the frequency of the S's right?
Let's go!!
Nice tutorial bro but for an amateur music producer have a small question. Is it bad to use a de-esser on the entire vocals even if there isnt any sibilance in it? Or like, not sure if i hear any sibilance but i will use an de-esser "just to be sure"
do you prefer the tlm 103 or the akg 414?
