fun fact, ‘Bunny is a Rider’ was the most acclaimed song of 2021, and the album has a whooping 95 in metacritic being so far the most acclaimed album of the year!
Every song in this album feels so connected like she sampled many of her own songs. The ‘hey hey hey hey’ part in Welcome to my island is sampled from ‘Look at me now’. The prelude melody part of ‘Pretty in possible’ is sampled from ‘Smoke’. ‘I believe’ outro sampled the whistle in ‘Bunny is a rider’. The melody of bagpipes in ‘Blood and butter’ is sampled Grimes verse in ‘Fly to you’. The more I listen to this album, the more I can feel how talented she is. And reading all the meaning behind these songs just make them getting better and better.
This album isn't critically acclaimed for nothing! Caroline definitely turned up her creativity a notch with this piece of work, I honestly didn't expect it to surpass Pang but it actually did! She snatched all of our wigs and ran off to her Island with them! Amazing!
You talking about the lyrics on Butterfly Net helped me to interpret them a bit better, of course I don’t know if I’m right but: as you said, she is trying to fly to heaven, to get to this perfect place. That place I think is the emotional stability and assurance her partner portrays, that she is desperately trying to reach herself. This felt supported by the lyrics about inertia always finding her and her throwing her “bag of wings” into the Thames. She has tried to fly to heave so many times, but inertia always finds her, and she never makes it, so she wants to throw away her wings because the failure hurts so much. When you mentioned the stupid ashes and how you usually get ashes after someone has died, I realized that relates to the “false goodbyes.” I think she is saying she becomes insecure or confused in their relationship and views the end coming, so she has these “ashes” from her false goodbyes.
I realized the ashes and the false goodbyes could also allude to something else. Her partner had stayed through all false goodbyes, but she has collected ashes from them. This feels like when there is some kind of problem or disagreement or conflict within her relationship, she seems to be more emotionally effected by it than her partner.
You're the only other person I've heard say Crude Drawing of an Angel sounds like the clangers! I feel it must have been intentional as Danny L Harle is British, and Oliver Postgate's sounds are seared into our national consciousness
Caroline did it again, it had to grow on me for a bit but now that I gave it many listens : WOW this album is incredible. I think I like it even better than Pang.I just love pop music and how weird and grand and ethereal some artists like Caroline make it. I also LOVE how the album is in a sense the opposite of Pang, pang has a lot of airy/atmospheric sounds and caroline is climbing on a ladder on the cover, while in Desire, she's on the ground of the subway so she's really feet deep into the earth and the album sounds more grounded and organic, with a lot of drums and I think warmer production choices, I think it's genius
I mean more like this general sound and vibe. I actually liked Lorde’s vocals more in Solar Power, but it felt so unfinished. Lorde does way better with this type of big, huge maximalist sound.
Thank you for this reaction Fern! It seemed like you weren't too happy with the lyrical analysis, but you actually helped me understand Crude Drawing of An Angel and Pretty In Possible way more 💖
Oh I was waiting for this video 💞 Thanks for reviewing this in so much detail! I love that you always pay attention to the lyrics. I was the one that posted that Shakespeare quote on "Hopedrunk Everasking". It was the only reference I could find online, I hope it made sense.
Hello, nice channel and way to review music This album is so awesome, just discovered caroline last year and been vibing with door til this masterpiece came out mind if I ask, what headphone gear you using? it looks nice, aesthetic even
Fern! I love you, you're amazing!! You're always reacting to underrated musicians, so do you think that you could react to VÉRITÉ's new album Love You Forever??? It's SO good!!! And I think you'd like it
I low key the upbeat energy would utterly teem the whole LP and not mostly the first half. At least I feel like it by my 4th listen. Looove the first 5 songs sfm
I loved the reaction! I reacted to her album on my channel. Check it out if you’d like. It was a whole musical experience for sure! You’re amazing, keep up the videos! ❤️
Fern, could u please react to years & years especially to their album "communion"? I'm currently reliving my Tumblr-era and your reaction would make my heart very happy lol
Such an amazing album from start to finish, my favs are (in no particular order) Pretty In Possible Fly to You Smoke Billions Sunset Blood and Butter Welcome to my Island I Believe
I think I began appreciating I Believe a lot more after I found out it was a tribute to SOPHIE....R.I.P queen 😔🙏

Nobody should cares bout Metacritic in 2020s, just go to rateyourmusic, ratings are good recommendations
hipster bs

Butterfly Net reminded me instantly of "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep..." by The Cure... sunbathing in sweet surrender
Caroline did it again, it had to grow on me for a bit but now that I gave it many listens : WOW this album is incredible. I think I like it even better than Pang.I just love pop music and how weird and grand and ethereal some artists like Caroline make it.

this made me laugh bc my fav song is I believe and it was the one u didn’t like first 🤣
Love me some Lorde but this is the cadence, spicyness, talent that Solar Power wishes it was. 🌊
ooooh that is interesting . I Love Solar Power but I kind of get what you mean too !
Wait why does Blood and Butter kinda sound like a better version of Oceanic Feeling???
I’m so glad someone else feels this way. THIS is what I wanted from Solar Power.
@@rosecoloredlady7094 but Polachek is such a powerful singer, Lorde is a literal genius but i can't see something like this on her voice
I mean more like this general sound and vibe. I actually liked Lorde’s vocals more in Solar Power, but it felt so unfinished. Lorde does way better with this type of big, huge maximalist sound.
