My favorite barbershop fougere. I also love Beau de jour but dislike Zino. I don't find them that similar. Beau de jour pops off the skin and has an uplifting brightness that Zino doesn't have.
Hey Kelan, I love BDJ and also own Zino. I thought it was harsh at first too, give it some time and try it again, it’s very similar to me now. Great review, keep them coming, old school fragrance fan.
Came across a beautiful vintage gem right up your ally ! A gorgeous chypre from the 90s, Ettore Bugatti Pour Homme. Your videos inspired me to pull the trigger on this one ( I never bought vintage until watching you !). I'm gland I did what a masterpiece ! As always enjoy your content !
I enjoy this scent and usually layer with grey vetiver, as this gives it the grapefruit added to the amber creamy moss shaving cream. Clean, sharp and masculine vibes.
I haven't read all of the comments, but Beau De Jour even in the new cheaper bottle is not an edt, they're both EDPs. It's amazing, I don't believe it should be compared to the current Zino, because the quality is way off. The rosewood note in the current Zino is way to pronounced. I'd love a vintage Zino sample to compare, because the Zinoholics swear by it.
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey sorry, I missed that somehow. Loved the review. I watch you quite often. Beau de Jour is one of those fragrances that I can't smell enough. I'm wearing it to bed tonight just to wake up smelling it!
Great to see you back making vids on these classics, love hearing your thoughts on these , BDJ is an experience for sure , Zino and Boss #1 vintages recently discovered that are so much better than the modern formulas
For me this is a modern version of Davidoff Zino. The opening is more pleasant but the overall scent is in my nose very similar. And offcourse there are differences. Beau De Jour smells more elegant and classy and less old fashioned. But the patchouli is also in Zino very prominent in the dry down and I think that is the main similarity. I like Zino a lot, even the thinner new version in the 125 ml bottle that is so much cheaper. So for me I stick with my Zino but maybe if that one runs out I will purchase Beau De Jour because it's a really nice one. By the way, I really like your reviews.👌
Great video as always Kelan! I have to say BDJ is one of my favorites new release in terms of fragrances with Bon Monsieur. If I have to pick a signature scent out of my large collection of colognes which are mostly fougères , this one come first. A fantastic high end barbershop aromatic fougère with great performances, so classy , gentlemanly and masculin to the roof. I love this scent. I like Zino too to be honest but it’s not the same league and I understand what can put you off when you talk About « syrupy » .
Great review Hidrissa, I read that BDJ is also your number one of all the fougeres you have. For me personally I also love fougeres. May I ask you what is your number 2 and number 3 of the fougeres you have and love. I also have BDJ and this is for me my absolute number one. I am still looking for a number 2 and 3 spot. Thnx. 😊
@@Paulbericht1 thanks. Based on which one I use the most , I would say Bon monsieur by Rogues perfumery, Duc de Vervins à l’extrême by Houbigant Paris , Azzaro pour Homme in no particular order. I used many bottles of each of them whereas I have a 200+ collection with many greats old school green scents and aromatic fougere .I also love Rive gauche by YSL which I use less because it is discontinued . But I admit that I never get the chance to smell Nobile by Gucci and I heard a lot of good things about it except the price…
Thank you Hidrissa for your nice answer. I saw also a video of Bon Monsieur that the Nice UA-camr: Scent of South Jersey made. That's why my attention for this Fragrance is on my Radar now. @@Paulbericht1 you’re welcome! To me Bon Monsieur is a fantastic scent and I can’t help but smell it when I’m wearing it, so good , so sophisticated with a good amount of oakmoss . Go on , it’s worth every penny that Rogues perfumery ask for it. Chanel Platinum is a great freshie not in the same style but it lacks in terms of performances but it’s a wonderful scent for spring and summer . Eau Sauvage parfum is a great choice too , powerful, fresh and heavy at the same time , citrusy, with a predominant vétiver note,an All year around cologne. you can’t loose 👍
Thank you 😊, for this really nice video 🎬 I have this Fragrance also. And for me personally this is my favourite scent of all the many different fragrances I have. So lovely 💈
Beau De Jour eau de parfum is my favorite spring cologne, it smells like a fresh brand new port-a-potty that's never been used on a dewey morning with green grass all around. Very retro masculine, 1990s smelling type scent, love the patchouli - this is the only scent that has ever got me a compliment lol.
A benchmark modern, refined herbal lavender for me. An ultra-clean patchouli-mint combo too. For a dirtier/sweatier and super cheap version, GB's Bowling Green would be my pick. Over Zino that is. Vintage Zino does kick butt though. Great review Kelan!
Love BDJ and almost all TF frags… I got an idea! Wouldn’t it be cool and interesting to know what kinda fragrances popular wiseguys used to wear? I wonder what Crazy Joe Gallo or Joey Cupcakes smelled like
You should try the other Tom Ford fougeres: Fougere Platine and Fougere D’Argent. I’ve got all three and I love all of them. And then obviously there is also YSL Rive Gauche.
I also own both! They're very similar but the private blend isn't really green or brash like the signature, it's more musky and shaving foam like, but i love both 👌Great review!
Good, dependable picks as always, Kelan! Have the all over body spray of this one and I must say that it is really a rip-off of vintage Zino, it's a cleansed version of that one. It's that close. Current Zino on the other hand is a scent that has imploded. I fully understand the animosity it gets. In the end I prefer vintage Zino, but that's just me.
Very nice review of Beau De Jour by Tom Ford. It surely is one of the best smooth and polished fougere fragrances on the market ! A true relief from the oversaturated woody, spicy, sweet, hot, boozy, leathery, smokey fragrances ! Only, I think it would be a sacrilege to use it for the gym. It is much refined for that purpose and application !
I like this but the I would have turned the lavender down a bit in the opening. It comes off a bit too raw for me but it eventually settles. Not listed but I get a vanillic Tonka bean sort of vibe in the drydown.
I'm not the biggest fan of Zino - I don't own it - but the lavender and patchouli combo in it does remind me of BDJ. I don't like the dry-down of BDJ because of the amber overload.
Love the stuff it’s like they took the dated old fashioned rose out of davidoff zino and replaced it with mint and it makes it an infinitely better fragrance ,there are definite similarities though even though I love one and hate the other
Always great reviews 👍👍 Do you still have Zino? A lot of folks out there swear that it has to sit a while before its at its best... Wondering if you could weigh in on that.
You really seem to like your strong manly scents! I have polo green a shot but it is just too much for me. I see the appeal tho I work in the medical field so I have to wear something non-offensive so I choose Jovan white musk for females 😂. Neither I’m a fan of TF but the only ones I love are BdJ , Black Orchid and Noir EDP , Tom Ford’s got mysterious releases on their private blend but as usual , crazily overpriced. BdJ is a modern fougere that reminds me ever so slightly to Tacchini, but BdJ ‘s got mint.
I've never understood the comparisons between Beau de Jour and Zino. To me, they have no association other than to say they are both fougeres. To my nose, they just don't smell alike. BDJ is a love. Zino was "ok" at first but I enjoyed wearing it less and less and ended up tossing it with 85% of the juice left in the bottle. Certainly not the worst fragrance but someone on a budget wants a masculine fragrance that simply smells good there are much better options. I'll aways have. bottle of BDJ.
I like fougeres and agree with your ratings, but not this one... ''Has a cheap hairspray smell or air freshener-like scent''-fragrantica ...just like hairspray to me.
This is clearly a reworked Zino. It emphasizes the lavender and mint while subduing a good part of Zino's patchouli and sandalwood in the basenotes. This could be named Zino Sport, Zino L'Eau or Zino Fresh. Personally i am not a fan of neither, i think that Zino is too dense to be wearable, it almost chokes me, and BdJ's drydown is just sickly sweet. But in the end i must give all the credit to Zino because, even if i can't wear it personally, i really like the smell of it, and of course, Zino is the only original fragrance out of these two.
Mr Kelen i haven't contacted you recently . Then again you weren't making videos for a while either . This question is NFL orientated . I know your a big New England Patriots fan .
