Just exemplary. I saw all these songs from the very first Son's Gig at the Grainstore as well as The State gigs earlier. These are the killerest players of their time to be charting with pop rock guns and ballads and rocking live originals trading this caliber of solos to packed room gigs and outdoor Australia Day concerts. NEVER will we see this compositional strength combined with supremely qualified player force. Just astronomical. Who on earth could press thumbs down let alone watch it and not press a thumbs up? Only those who know it's going a bit fast in this live gig, but who'd know unless you have The State album Elementary! :-) I got one!! :-)
I played with Virgil on on the virge at the evelyn in '96 - best experience of my life.. never forget it. He is every bit the gentleman (and he millions of times better in person) See above comment...I hope the world chokes on the musical garbage it has encouraged.
Love this song & album by "The State"......The single from the album was "Real Love" & got airplay which was great. I still love listening to this album & this was before Jack (Irwin Thomas) was in the band,but I think from memory at the same time that Jack was playin with Virgil in "Hans Valen". This track & "Someday" were the stand outs for me on the album!
Geoff Cain (bass from SS, The State) was also in Hans Valen. Around this time Jack was also playing in a fusion band called Gnomes Of Zurich - my memory is hazy but I think it was a similar lineup to HV; Virgil, Geoff, Stuart Wilkinson on keys. They were doing originals, as well as covers of Eric Marienthal (the sun was in my eyes), Los Lobotomys (big bone), The Crusaders (cause we've ended as lovers), Steve Lukather (smell yourself), Toto (Rosanna)... I had a cassette recording of one of their Grainstore gigs, which I still kick myself for losing.

Gnomes of Zurich played The Grainstores on Thursday nights and did Fusion Covers,John Schofield,Los Lobotomys…Gnomes consisted of Chris Becker on Bass, James Roche from Bachelor Girl on Keys,Virg on the kit and Jack on the Charvel…A mate of mine recorded The Gnomes Gig on his walkman and we converted them to disc
@@jonocrawfs1381 How funny, I went to a bunch of Gnomes gigs but clearly I never took much notice of the lineup other than Jack & Virgil. I do remember their opening number was an absolute banger, and Jack's tone (Bogner or Soldano, I don't recall which) brought a tear to my eyes. I don't suppose you'd have a digital version of that recording available somewhere? I'd kill to hear it again!

I couldnt help but notice the line up simply because it was sensational…Becker is a great bassist and James Roche was and is a gun keys player…James played in Tommys Electric Band back in the early 90s with Rex Goh and Rob Little on Bass along with Kev Murphy on the skins…What a band that was….!!
Man - I never knew Phil Buckle wa a shredder! That was awesome! He's must have been one seriously together dude to let his ego take a backseat so that Jack could take all the leasd workk. I always incorrectly assumed that Jack must have been the better lead player - Phil is obviously every bit as good - maybe better
@weedoman1971 ~ Phil was playing in a band called the Cutters in Melbourne before they became the Sons ~ nearly every song featured his playing which was awesome ~ I never understood why he stepped aside for Jack ~ Phil still to this day is one of the best players Ive ever seen live

Yes, He mentioned on his interview with Rick Hollis how much he didn't like the sound, and specifically mentioned this performance. He said something like, "it had a thin magonany body... hear how weak my sounds is compared to jack's"
@tonfan Australia doesn't realise or is so naive, blind, deaf or plainly hooked up by these bogan footy/sport stars that they have some of the best musicians in the world right on their door step! Virgil Donati is flooring people overseas yet apart from musicians no one knows or cares about their own (Virgil Donati) doing amazing things overseas.
When it comes to Music, Australians have no idea about quality music,simply because Society has a brain the can only comprehend very basic music. Your right @65Magnifico some of the greatest musicians in the world are home grown here in Melbourne…Phil Turcio is a monster keys player and world class in every way…!
The whole collective of talent in this band is exceptional on a world stage. Phil and Irwin are obvious.... as is Virgil.. But check out the stuff Geoff and Pete are doing and it's mind blowing!! I was privileged to work a little with these guys in the 90's as a monitor engineer and I was PFL their respective monitor sends and constantly being mindblown!!
@@poppsy69 Yeah totally agree, but still a great track. Irwin wasn't in the band for a few more years and remember they recorded that entire album on a Fostex ½" 16 track and mixed it in Metropolis later (I think) (anyone correct me if I'm wrong). I still love playing that CD loud!!
Does anyone know if there are any old Cutters video footage out there ? Live or Clips? ~ cmon Phil dig some out and upload em for us - :) must have some from the ol studio in Ringwood days ?

Phil is absolutely incredible!!!! Doesn't like touring. However, he is an absolute master and gentleman!
Jacks voice has more range and flexibility, even now but I love Phil’s voice on his newer work on Custom Made, it’s perfect.
