We have one of these and I say that the resonance for melodic playing is very good, surprisingly good. When you play one of the notes of the open strings in closed position, the body rings and the note lasts for a long time. It's a good buy.
If you already play guitar, you will like this little instrument. If you don't play yet, I don't think this one would be any less frustrating to learn. This is not a toy, it's a pretty well made instrument. After test driving mine for about a week, I lowered the saddle a little to improve the action, and replaced the classical strings with "silk and steel" strings. Very small increase in string tension with silk and steel strings, so it has not been a problem for my Yamaha GL-1. Sounds much better to my ear. If you are a classical guitar player, you may prefer the nylon strings. Good, honest review. Help Greg out and buy one.
Hi :) I have a burning question. So I’m a travelling musician and I’ve had a hard time with planes lately.. I’ve been thinking of changing over to the Guitalele for a while now but there’s one thing holding me back. What do you think about turning it to a standard E guitar tuning using hannabach strings? I would honestly love your opinion, thank you so so much!
I haven't had a chance to restring my guitalele with these strings yet. I already have them so will probably give a go. I wouldn't rely on guitalele as my main instrument to be honest.
A guitalele with its small body will always sound better tuned higher. Personally I tune it in G# with the 96c Aquila set. The advantage of these strings is also that they are thinner, so easier to play (I also changed the head nut to have more space between the strings...)
i was wondering whether the guitarlele has a truss rod so that I can safely change strings and tune it as a guitar without placing too much tension on the neck...
I would say maybe its not the best for child because the neck width is for adults. Scale length is fine yes but it could be hard for young children to grip properly.
I bought one of these and love playing it when it's in tune which sadly isn't very often...I think with my playing style it stays in tune for less than five minutes...Sadly it will have to go...
Hmmm just got a Baritone Uke after selling my Tenor and considering returning it for one of these- its a lil boring for me the way its just the lower 4 strings of a guitar (DGBE).. might try this instead cause I like playing a reggae style guitar..
The instrument is as good as new. You will need to tune each time you pick it up just like any guitar out there. It's a good instrument and great value for your money.
Hi I haven't changed the strings yet. They do wear quickly. I will be testing some in the future and will make a video about it. If you find strings that are good please share it with us. Also the other Yamaha guitar is called JR2 3/4
In the hundred dollar range probably the Kala Mahogany series or similar. You’re just going to be finding laminate construction in that range but around that price is when you can start counting on a certain level of build quality. I like the concept, I just want to hear what the $400 all-solid version of this would sound like.
The action is not high. It’s a perfect for a 5 year old. Even a 4 year old if they are ready to learn. I now recommend 1/2 classical guitars but not Yamaha as they are too big. There are other makers that make smaller 1/2 guitars. I would go with that instead of a guitalele.
@@nb1598 There's a brand called Rodrigo sold by London Guitar Studio. But it's London, UK Not sure where you are. They are great quality. My second pick is a Yamaha. I think they might have two sizes of 1/2 better check
hello, can i ask you a question. i never learned guitar before and dont know how to play guitar. is it good if i start learning with guitalele? thank you!
Hi, I'm really worried cuz I don't know how to play this but I just bought it and there are no tutorials on UA-cam, i need help☹️ Can you teach it on UA-cam? It will be great
I suggest that you start learning from guitar tutorials. Especially songs for guitar with a capo on fret five. The sound will be the same. If you are a complete beginner I suggest that you find a local guitar teacher to help you get started. UA-cam is great but it's not an answer to everything. Especially at the very beginning.

I play guitar but I'm considering something like this for my 7 year old. He would like a "real" guitar.
I recently bought one of these - it's a fun instrument, and I'm finding it highly addictive!
Literally if I go without playing guitar 🎸 for a day or two I start going crazy. I think ima get this guitalele
How is it?
I love my Yamaha guitalele. It is great for camping and for travel. It was a great transition instrument from ukulele to regular guitar.

I haven't tried Hannabach strings yet, but I'm using Aquila guitalele E tuning strings and am quite happy with them.

Nice guitalele review. :) I am planning to have one. Would you help me decide which one to buy? Cordoba GP100 or this one? Ty.
I didn't try a Cordoba but I think that Yamaha is good enough so I would buy it again

Is the first fret is the same width as the normal guitars 6th fret?
I would say that the neck is like in normal guitar. It's a proper adult instrument.
@@GregMichael sorry, i probably meant the length of the first fret. Is it as long as normal guitars sixth fret? :D
@@augustassimonis8345 it's shorter than the guitar 6th fret
The tuning is like a guitar with a capo on 5th fret, but fret distances are like a classical guitar with a capo on 7th fret.

Thanks for the review! Considering buying one of these for a child. What's the action like after a year? How often does it need to be tuned? Thanks!

What is the main difference between a guitar and guitalle apart from being small? Will the scale match with regular sized guitar right out of the box?
The tuning is like in ukulele. To sound like a guitar you need classical guitar strings
Great playing, man. You’ve got me sold, I’m gonna go buy one tomorrow lol
What kind of strings do u use for the guitalele? Having a hard time grinding strings. Also, what model is that Yamaha travel guitar that you showed

Dope! I sure will. I am heading out to guitar center today. I’ll report back soon.
I use the same as on my Classical. Same gauge too.
I have a question can we tune it in E...E if we apply higher tention nylon strings to it.
Please answer if you can
Blackheart, a man of taste.
I guess for $100 it’s fine, but it doesn’t sound nearly as nice to me as the best ukuleles you could snag in that price range.
Any recommendations please?

Is the action high, i believe that this is the most important information for a 5 year old

The kid is 5 but really tighny, what would be a nice, low action, low budged 1/2 guitar, can you ply recommend me. Thank you so much for your response

Yes its a cool little instrument. Really fun to play.
