Congratulations on your first RSPB birdwatch Stef. it's great to hear all the work you've done to improve the garden for nature! I'm overrun with House Sparrows who live in the old 15 m long hedge at the bottom of my garden, but few other birds made an appearance today (about normal). The House Sparrows seem to dominate my bird feeders, and seem to chase off other arrivals quite quickly (a few Tits and a Robin for example).
I look forward to hearing or seeing (if you're making a vid) how it went! It was v stormy here in Cornwall today. I hope you gpt chance to set up your hide without too much rain where you are!
@@stef_wild luckily I made it for an hour before it started to pour down however it was very windy all morning even with my mouse microphone it was too loud so had to do a voice over. Hope it sounded ok And let me know if you got the instagram photos I sent you?
Excellent video ❤I tend to only get blackbirds and wood pigeons in my back garden. I used to get loads more variety of birds. Definitely noticed a decrease in bird species
Thanks, very interesting. I’ve never participated in the Birdwatch so didn’t know how it worked. We don’t get a great number of birds in our garden (maybe because of the number of cats that seem to like going through our garden even though we have a dog!), especially this time of year. Do you know why the RSPB choose to do the Birdwatch in the winter, is it possibly to do with less leaves and foliage to hide the view of the birds?
It's worth taking part- v interesting process and I'm looking forward to the results! RSPB website says that they do it in winter because it is likely that more birds will come into the garden looking for food or shelter. I see more in the summer for sure in my garden. Your suggestion makes sense too re visability. 😊
Another Great video. ❤💫 I think its brilliant how many people take part, each year. 600k Wow!! And as to you not seeing many birds, and variety. I think you saw loads,- (and in one hour) -compared to my garden, which is quite biggish, and even with a tiny little copse at the top. And all I get are black birds, the odd magpie. And about a million wood pigeons.
Yes, it was great to be part of and I can't wait to see the results for this year. I was told my results were well below the average which I could have guessed! That was on the Sat morning though so it will be interesting to see what the average comes out at when everyone's results are in. I usually get quite a lot of blackbirds too! And of course woodpigeons which I love! Great to hear about the birds in your garden, thank you!🐦 And you're right, I am very blessed with the variety! 😊
Nicely presented 😊. Big changes here since the 90's. House sparrows, blackbirds, robins, magpies, jays, wood pigeons, blue and great tits still regular. But greenfinches, chaffinches, starlings, dunnocks, collared doves, all very common then, totally vanished years ago😞.
Morning Stef. I didn't participate in the RSPB survey, but went for a spin in my car into the countryside over the weekend. Whilst out I saw the following: Kestrel, Buzzard, Wood Pigeon, Magpie, Crow and Blackbird. Not easy spotting birds when driving, but at least I saw some!
@@fatwagtail thank you! Ah that's a shame- thankfully I was working from home. Looking forward to the results from the full survey. Thanks for your comment 😊
Nice video, it’s cool that they have a live leaderboard. It’s typical that during the birdwatch hour the birds seem to make themselves scarce haha. I’ve had so much going on lately that I plain forgot to sign up to do it this year. First time I’ve missed it in a few years. We have regular visitors to our garden (robins, blackbirds, blue tits, great tits, wren, wood pigeon and starling) as I always put out the feeder in the winter months, and make lard birdseed balls for the magpies and crows.
@@wildlifespotteruk thanks! Yes, I was suprised to see that but it was interesting! It's great to hear what birds you have in your garden. Making your own bird food is interesting- I might look into doing that too. And yes typical indeed 😄 Thanks for your comment!
Birds that I have seen in my garden recently: Dark eyed junco, American robin, Ana's hummingbird, California quail, Eastern twohee, chickadee. This is on Vancouver Island, so no votes in the RSPB survey, I'm afraid.
Well done on improving your garden ❤
Thanks Gary! 😊

interesting 👍
Great vid
I’ll be doing mine tomorrow in my pop up hide and chair in the garden and possibly torrential rain so:should be fun

Thanks Simeon, interesting to hear what you get in your garden also. So sad there is a decline in bird species.

Hi Clive! Sounds like a good outing - as you say not easy, but good variety there! Thanks for sharing 😊
