1- i love your accent and how articulate you sound. 2- Wonderful lesson. 3- You broke things down into sections and simplified the piece for my understanding. Thank you! Youre a fantastic teacher. I hope youre still putting lessons out on UA-cam
Dude you are who I've been looking for in my eniter Bassist life.So simple, and you say the NOTES instead of having all the confusing numbers in substitution for the notes. Thank you!
Thank you thank you, The VP of my company invited me over to play at his house and this was on his list. I haven’t played in 6 years and I have no Bass or amp lol. He says use mine. Im literally memorizing this in my head, and in 25 years of cover bands ive never covered this song… Much easier than I thought
This such a great video, your tips brought me right up to speed with Moondance. I went from basically hanging on the root (poorly I might add), to locking in and helping the band find a nice groove for a nice version of this classic tune. Is there any chance you could do a similar video for the the Allman Bros "In memory of Elizabeth Reed". It's long with a few complex parts, the way you broke down Moondance was perfect...
I like how he has made the song accessible to beginners, mid level and have a go if you think you can. Makes climbind the next levels so much easier. Good vid- Good Man
Outstanding lesson. This is the best way, at least for me, to learn a new song. Start off with the most basic root note bass line and then gradually build it up. It really helps me to understand what is happening within the song. It's also very useful for when you get a bit lost and have to improvise something on the spot. Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this. It's a classic song every bass player should know.
Was a bit embarrassed the other night when jamming live and this was thrown in.. Felt it was my bassist’s duty to learn Moondance! Thanks for unlocking the tune! Hopefully no red face next time!
Excellent! Great way to break it down. I am not a jazz player, but have a gig, with Moondance in the set list. This made it very easy to comprehend what I need to do.
Nicely played and well explained, personification of simplicity, transparency and efficiency. A suitable study piece of a non-threatening nature which would serve to inspire practical playing as well as theoritical prowess. Well done on another first-rate tutorial
Good lesson, is there any way you could add the jam track for us to try playing along with? Please. And could you please do a tutorial on the Matlock theme bass line.
Awesome lesson. I purchased Walking Bass Essentials book and am Just starting to digest it. Can you tell me what amp and effect you are using for this lesson? I like the tone and would like to duplicate it.
I 've been playing this tune for years and even though i play it slightly different you have to pay attention to the rapid changes, it's easy to get lost.
Hi James, I love this number and this is such a good breakdown of it, but unfortunately I'm not allowed access to the PDF. do you have any suggestions, please?
Thanks James. Richard here. I’ve been using the advanced riffs for months and the band loves it. One observation though. It seems that you fret the strings right on top of the fret as opposed to the center of two frets. Sometimes I can’t tell which note you’re playing. Am I playing incorrectly? Is this a technique issue? Should I be closer to the fret and not in the middle between two frets?
What do you reckon to the Sire bass?? Considering getting one as an alternative to a Fender P bass. Loved this lesson. Clear instruction and the notation/tabs to go with it. Inspirational!
The site for the backtrack is no more :(. Seems that the real songs base has some syncopation, no ? Enjoyed your video. Been thinking about getting a Strat lately though it's been a minute since I played, really miss it. Anyways, good job laying it out !
Brilliant vid. U could add dead or ghost notes to keep the rhythm etc which would help players in time and works musically. Great vid, I'm subn and liken. I'm a master of language lol. 👍
Beautiful lesson! I'll work on it after work today. I learn everything by ear because i can't understand notation eventho I've tried for years. Is there a easy way to understand without costing a lot of time and money? I don't have a lot of either.
Hey warren, grab the free pdf that comes with lessons and cross reference the notation and tab with what your ears are telling you... over time the concepts will fall into place :-)
I have been playing guitar, both rhythm and lead in different bands along the years...I am playing Bass more now so I can play with other musicians...Last thing I want is to be a Bass Player sounding like a guitar player....Any suggestions on how to set the foundation and get my head around what is needed from a GOOD Bass Player...I know some many positions on the guitar (CAGED, Major Minor playing MODES etc) that I cant help but think this can be applicable. Thanks for the insight...R

Thank you for the great lesson!!! You are one of the best bass teachers I have seen here in UA-cam.
Easy to understand, although the free available sheet music can be read. Useful breakdown of the sections and how to see them, like “…16 bars of Am…”
Excellent lesson and your Sire PJ bass sounds great!!!

Tremendous lesson. So clear. Thank you!
Love the sire
My favorite bass
That right leg is your built in metronome. I see that stomp.🎉
Well done my friend...all the guitar tutorials miss out on the C major chord in the vamp...I'm not the only one out there who hears it!
It’s how I hear it… I guess one could look at it as another inversion of an Am7 chord.
Gotta say the way you break this down makes a really easy and fun tune to play. Since I got this down its become a favorite of our jam group.
Wow! Glad you like it! All the best!

Hi Richard
Play just behind the fret and it everything should work nicely:-)
What do you reckon to the Sire bass?? Considering getting one as an alternative to a Fender P bass.
