- Hellooooo friends! For the last vlog of 2023 I wanted to do an end of the year recap vlog where we go over the highs and lows from this year along with some shop stats and hard lessons learned! Then the second portion of the vlog is devoted to talking about my goals and plans for 2024 and some of the big changes I’m going to be making! This video is going to be a long one so get some comfy jammies on and get comfortable because we’re going to be hanging out for awhile! :)
Thank you so much for being here and making my entry into the youtube world this year such a warm welcome!! Starting this channel was one of the best things I could have done and I am over the moon excited to see what 2024 has in store for this channel and my small business!!

The negative people hate themselves and like to spread their misery. If someone doesn’t like your art, too bad, look at all the people that love it. . My daughter, who is chronically ill, deals with the same negativity. I think sometimes invisible illness is the hardest to cope with and the least understood. She has been ill for almost the entirety of her teen years (she's 21 now) and has learnt to have very thick skin. Negative comments reflect more on the person giving them than the one receiving them. You so remind me of my daughter. You are stronger and more beautiful than you could possibly know and are such a wonderful role model for younger chronically ill people out there. Keep being yourself and spreading lots of colourful bookish love! 🧡

@@emilycromwelldesigns Hi sweetie so I watched this entire video and if I may say, people can be mean and evil but when someone comes and says something nasty to you, this is what you should say, “Thank you for letting me know how mean and evil you are. I am going to pray for you right now. Lord please forgive (whatever their name is) for being ignorant and mean. They don’t know who you are and I ask that you show their soul mercy. Thank you Jesus for the opportunity to pray for them. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. 😂😂😂 Trust me that will make them think twice before saying something again. It might not affect them now but eventually it will because God is great and he wins all the time. Believe in him and he will take care of the rest. If you ever need a volunteer to come help you, I can take vacation to help. After all we are sisters of Christ and we are put on earth to help one another. I live in Virginia Beach so I’m not that far. We can jump in on a zoom call to chat and you can get to know me better. Hope you have a wonderful New Year’s and congratulations on your engagement!! Never have understood why people are mean. If you don’t like someone’s art or content then simply move along and find something you like better. No one deserves to be treated that way. Remember someone’s meanness is almost always a reflection of their own unhappiness and is not about you. Please keep creating your beautiful art and keep your chin up. You don’t have to pretend to be happy, but please know the way you share positivity does lift most of us up. Thanks for all you do. ❤

Suggestion for IG - in the settings you can restrict comments with certain words. You can add this restrictions for "body", "weight", "dentist", "dental", etc. so you don't see these comments in the first place ❤️

I am honest when I say that you brighten my day each and everyday when I watch your videos and have shown me so much about grit and determination. I suffer from severe anxiety and depression, yet I am also a teacher and a mother to 3 wonderful children AND I have my own small craft studio. I have several autoimmune diseases, it’s not easy trying to have a smile on your face everyday. Inside you feel sick but on the outside you look okay, so people think you’re okay. I think you are beautiful!! I pray your disease goes into remission. You do a wonderful job at what you do, your artwork is amazing! Congrats on your engagement too🥰
I couldn’t have said that better myself…I was just saying something like this the other day to my mom..that it’s frustrating because just by looking at me from the outside, you would never know how much agony my body is in when I’m having pain flares or constant muscle injuries. It’s definitely very hard 🩷

it upsets me so much that someone would post awful comments about you, especially under some fake guise of offering you “advice” for being the face of your brand for your art. If that woman had the time to harass a kind stranger online who put outs nothing but positivity, then she must be a very miserable person in her own life. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have a chronic illness, but I know it must be incredibly difficult and you should be all the more proud of how you have grown your business. You’re an inspiration 😊❤
Hi, You are amazing! I see a lot of people getting a hard time with social media "opinions". I've always thought that people behind a screen are meaner. But, I work in a 9 to 5 and I notice that people are less polite, make mean comments, complain about everything. In short, we tell children not to be bully, what example we give. Nothing but love for you! 💖 People who sit and comment rude to others, show they have too much time on their hands and are bored with their lives. I’ve been blogging since 2017 and the more you grow, the more negativity. I just learned to mark their comments as spam, delete, block and ignore. I never reply. There are 99% of people who love you for who you are and what you do. They deserve our time 😊
The problem with social media is that it makes the nasty mean rude people feel powerful. They say what they want because there aren't any consequences. I can guarantee that they would never say those things to a person if they were face to face. But when you can hide behind a screen it gives them courage. I want to say that I hope karma bites them in the tush but I honesty wouldnt wish hate on anyone. I just hope they can see how much their words hurt others. Even with the weight ones. Body shaming is wrong whether its toward bigger or smaller people. I think if I were in the positions of a lot of social media content creators I would pay someone to read the comments for me and just block all the negative ones. There is a difference between being concerned and being nasty. You can be kind and give suggestions without being nasty and mean, even hurtful!

I think so many people who are unkind, hide behind their computers, phones, etc and feel empowered to say things that are down right mean and nasty because they are miserable. It's unfortunate that tech (because they would probably not have the guts to do it face-to face) has created this type of person who is hidden except for their words. Ignore them. It is easier for me to say, but it is not worth a breath or thought from you. I wish you a happy, healthy and wonderful new year and best wishes for your future wedding!

I just started watching you earlier this year and as a small business owner myself, I admire the things that you have accomplished. Set boundaries on how you expect to be treated (block those that are negative), set reasonable work times because work life balance is important.
I wanted the gift bags so bad for my book club, then I saw the price and would have wasted $50 just on bags😭 I wanted to support so bad and realistically couldn’t. They were so cute though, don’t get discouraged about them!
I just discovered your channel a few months ago and have been addicted every since. You are a ray of sunshine and inspiration! You have definitely inspired me to get serious and to push myself about my small business. People are cruel and miserable and don't deserve an ounce of your energy or time. You know that saying of misery loves company. They're not worth it at all.

girl you are AMAZING! my tip for the haters is block anyone who comments negative things immediately. there is nothing you will gain from having them continue to harass you, and it is your right to protect yourself! That also goes for people commenting on your weight- no one should have the right to do that ❤️

Definitely use a virtual assistant for customer service inquiries on your chat and socials. Honestly, it would be worth your time to sit down and brainstorm as many tasks as you can that a virtual assistant can help with… My virtual assistant has been with me for almost 5 years in my small reselling business and she might as well be my vice president. Many of the challenges you have brought up today that are unique to you because of the EDS are things I’ve never had to deal with but based on your wonderful energy that you bring in your videos and art I know you will find ways to work through any challenge. I’ve ordered some of your items and they are gorgeous. You are succeeding at being positivity to others!💕

Those people that are trolls are very jealous of you. That’s all that is. Perfect teeth are a vain commodity in this country unfortunately. The people that put stock into that stuff are hollow and have nothing going for them. You are wonderful, your smile is wonderful and makes me very happy.

I was always told when you bring light to darkness. The darkness will try to take away your light, and Emily do not let them take away the light that God gave you. I just found your channel and it is such a beautiful channel my kids are grown. I do read books but it is something that attracts me to your channel. I just want to say as a new comer, what attracted me to your thumbnail and made me click to watch your video was that you looked like a REAL PERSON. Not some manicure/ curated/aesthetic. What made me STAY and subscribe after watching your video was your personality and passion. You have such a beautiful soul. and personally I find your smile so endearing. Rather you are being positive and spreading joy, or being real sharing something alittle dark. You were passionate and true to your self and authentic and that’s what made me want to subscribe and support you.

Don't worry about those negative and hateful people. Sometimes, you just need to associate them with something comical and just laugh. Another thought I had was having an automatic response for some of the common negative messages. Something to educate them with, and if they still feel the need to be nasty, just block them as you said. I wish we could field those comments for you.

I am so disgusted that people have been ugly to you, it's so sad that people have nothing better to do. When you think about it how pathetic that it is that's what their life is focused on, it actually makes me feel sad for them, what an empty life. My boyfriend served in the Navy for 22 years and he says, "I fought for the freedom of speech, but I also fought for the freedom of not having to listen to others opinions" and I always think about that when people are disrespectful like that. Remember that your mental health is number one, and if someone is putting you down, it's okay to block them and protect your safe space. Your personal peace of mind is your most important thing, so protect it! I just started my own small business making tumblers, and constantly on UA-cam you see people talking about all the successes they have, and it's nice to see someone be candid and show that it's not all rainbows and butterflies, it reminds me to keep trying, so thank you for that. Also, I know you're a grown adult but I think you are so adorable, I love your content. I hope 2024 is amazing for you Emily! I'm here for it! You got this girl!

I have gone through so many planners that I just haven't used! I had more success with the ones I made myself but even then towards the end of the year I just gave up as it just got put down somewhere and then forgotten about. My best organisation item is a wall planner, the massive ones. I put the conventions I do on there so I can see at a glance when I need to start restocking and when I have a gap to breathe. Plus it is sellotaped onto the door so I have to look at it every day!
As a side note, you look great and I love your bubblegum pink vibes!

I'm sorry you had to deal with so much negativity this past year. What ever happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." People can be so hateful anymore. It is nobody's business how much you weigh, if you are eating, etc. Keep doing what you are doing because you know what is right for you. I just wish people would be more sensitive to others and kind because you never know what others are going through. I love your art. I look forward to what next year has to bring for you.

I really enjoy your videos. Please don’t take everything to heart. If they are making it their goal to go after your appearance that says more about them, than who you are. If they actually took a moment to research information about you, they would realize they should be kind. I have a sign in my house that says “Be nice or go away”. My son is very thin because of food allergies, many many foods, he hears it from other people that he should eat more and it bothers him. I’m so sorry. You art is beautiful and fluffy and happy. I rarely make comments. You are beautiful and genuine. As a mom with a daughter who has the exact issues that you have, I fully understand your limits and health issues. People who make comments about you personally are just annoyed with themselves. Sometimes the answer is as simple as that. You are a doer and sometimes people that hate, are not. They don't understand the hard work it takes to design and run a business. Please take care of yourself mentally and physically. Don't allow yourself to become sick because of people who are self-centered and have no direction in life. (My comments and thoughts) Reasonable people who love your product will wait for the order. I feel your pain, I have sickness to with foods from having food allergies and IBS-D. I also have diabetes which has deteriorated my body. I have watched how much you have accomplished and it is so inspiring and helps motivate me. I sew for my business and some days I can’t run my machine.

I think you’re amazing I have EDS I’m 33 and starting a small business soon. To truly hard and I keep getting sick trying to push myself and ache and hurt for days. So try to take it easy. I get envious and angry at myself but accepting it. Well done and keep up the great work

I also, like the fact that you worked on a bookmark with a colour that is not your fave. Somethings that we don't like others will like, so it was good to hear that you decided to do the St. Patrick's Day bookmarks annnnnd they did well.
As for the ignorant comments, unfortunately there will always be some clowns out there that could have very easily kept scroll, but to make themselves feel accomplished they make a rude comment. Ridiculous. Anyway, I was thinking that maybe you could add a small group of "Awareness Bookmarks" one including your condition that you shared with us with a blurb on that back that describes the Awareness on the bookmark. Or it could be something mentioned on one of your platforms. Trust me I am not trying to add more work (as you mentioned people wanted Sticker Books and the sales weren't there), I was thinking of a positive platform to address and educate. You have educated me of your background. Thank-you. Folks need to take that same negative energy and work on themselves. The only this that I honestly noticed was how big and beautiful your smile is and I love your your laugh. I have a teenage daughter and son and recently we were talking about people on Social media just being mean because they enjoy hurting others and my daughter actually said wow I think there Mum and Dads should hug them more because then they would be happier people. I had to smile at that and thought if only the world was that simple :) Keep smiling, keep working hard and most of all keep enjoying what you do.

loved this video :) my motto for next year is "it is what it is" and really focusing on things that I can control and what I can't control. When it comes to sending orders etc I think as long as you are transparent with your shipping times it is totally fine to have longer times. I'd much rather a small business take a bit longer and be honest about it taking a bit longer rather than trying to rush things and missing deadlines. You have done an amazing job and as a fellow spoonie I get a lot of my own motivation from you. I always watch you whilst tidying up or doing other tasks as find your voice really soothing and just positive.

I understand where you are coming from. some people hate their bodies, our bodies hate us. I make christmas ornaments that I sell at fairs. it works because I make them in the good seasons. winter is bad so I make only proto types and wait for the good times. I cant use painkillers anymore as I have built up tolerance. but a hot bath with a good book is pure heaven. bookstores and libraries are great, full of new friends. books are always there when you need them and they dont judge.
“Our bodies hate us”…now that is the perfect way to describe chronic illness. ❤️🩹 and so very true about the bookstore!! I just went again last night and even though I was having a really bad pain day, it instantly lifted my spirits ☺️

I just don't understand why some people make it their mission in life to be so hateful. My husband keeps telling me to do a YT channel but I know that those haters are out there and I just don't want to deal with it. My self esteem isn't very high anyway. Just know that we love you, your art and your shop!! Please don't change a thing!!!! Keep the videos coming!!! I had to cut out gluten in 2022 and I have GERD so I do feel your pain. Just know that your community loves you. :) I went gluten free in 2015 because of stomach issues, plus my thyroid. It has helped so much. But, I will say it seems like more and more foods upset my stomach. So, my ok food list is getting shorter and shorter.

Sorry for your physical Struggles - unfortunately I think that is something only other people that have experienced and struggled with similar exhaustion can empathize with (I can empathize!) - I can really see a support space for that!! Also while other small business owners may look like they’re accomplishing more I do believe life flows in seasons and who knows they may have other struggles that aren’t so obvious.
Im just so grateful for the joy and life you bring to this channel. I hope you don’t feel like you must be “happy” all the time -

One more thing: you might want to look into something called Active Pure Technology - it’s cutting edge air filters also used on the international space station- their business has exploded since Covid - in hospitals restaurants homes- they even sell small mini units for your car!! This might be a solution with your chronic illness and hiring staff- maybe the person or persons could come on a day your mom works (and you don't so there's minimal exposure - you could still face time in etc - at the end of the day you run your active pure system totally sanitize and clean the air in your studio before you return. just a thought - im not affiliated with in any way, just a fan of their technology.
