Pretty damn amazing to realize that this short was made before WINDOWS existed, much less 3D Studio Max, or any other modeling/animation-specific 3D graphics program!
Thanks for posting. I remember having this on VHS but I think I taped it from Night Flight. A terrific video, great little story and good example of how far CGI has come.
Same here, I also saw it on Night Flight first! Many years later I found it on a DVD collection of animated shorts. I still love this film. It needs a sequel!
This was featured on the very first episode of Liquid Television back in 1991. I taped it (on a tape). And I had a mullet just like the kid in this video (who totally reminds me of Commander Keen).
Thanks for posting this, i remember seeing this on night flight or something in the early 90s. Ive been looking for it for years trying googling cgi short super hero kid versus robot roach and nothing came up. What year was this made? Did these guys do any other ones?
Hey, glad to see people still remember this little gem of early CGI. It was created by Bob Sebiston and Mike McKenna sometime in 1990, from what I can find. flatblackfilms.com/Flat_Black_Films/Films/Pages/Grinning_Evil_Death.html for more info. Sabaiston's Flat Black Films went on to create sequences for "Waking Life" and "A Scanner Darkly" (or his companies technology 'rotoshop' was used, i'm not sure about that point)

I remember that "Computer Animation Festival" tape. I rented it when I was ten because I'd seen the "Mind's Eye" tapes and was hungry for more.
