I remember being sick to my stomach and started walking out even b4 the Richey kick at 6:21 in OT...only for it to be blocked! Easily one the craziest regular season games I have ever been too...HOFrs on both sides of the ball for BOTH teams. This yr 2000 team probably RAIDERS best in the last 30yrs...yes even better than 2016!
That Raiders run from 2000-2002 was often like this. Those teams had so much talent, but always threatened to revert back to the form of the Raiders of the Lost 90's. The only thing was, they had an elite QB in Rich Gannon who often refused to allow them to lose. I've said it before, I'll say it again...Gannon was like manna from Heaven for Raiders fans like myself. To have the QB that made the right decisions, eluded pass rushers, could run for timely yards, and didn't commit the killer turnovers...he lifted our franchise for three years on his Philly back and made us the RAIDERS again. Truly haven't been the same since his career ending injury, ironically against Jon Gruden and the Bucs, in 2004.
People forget how good Gannon was back then. Most people will blank when you ask them who the 2002 NFL MVP was. Yeah, the Super Bowl was rough, but that was an all-time great defense the Bucs had. Many times the league MVP didn't win the Super Bowl, yet people seem to totally disregard Gannon's 2002 run. Yet others' MVP seasons that didn't end in a Lombardi often get praise ad nauseam.
No doubt Gruden, Gannon and Brown. Was blessed enough to attended 3 of the 5 playoff games and quite a few regular season games in Oakland in that stretch.
Even though the 49ers lost, it was cool to go back and see this one. The "Battle of the Bay" games in 2000, and 2002 had an energy between both fan bases that really hasn't been around since that time for various reasons I'm sure. Back then it was really like a blood-feud between Raiders and 49ers fans. Seeing a lot of old faces like Owens, Garcia, Garner, B. Young, Norton, and others brings back interesting memories due to the 49ers being in a transitional period following the glory days. Credit for Mariucci for getting the team back on track following the fallout of the 1999 season when it all went south. Took some time, but he had the squad back near the top in 2001, and 2002.
Early 2000’s was a great time for Bay Area football, Raiders were a playoff team in ‘00, ‘01, and of course SB contenders in ‘02. Niners made the playoffs in ‘01 and ‘02 as well. No wonder the craziness between the two teams was so high! Sadly after 2002, neither team would be any good for years.. though the Battle of the Bay matchups always had energy!
Its a damn shame Mark Davis moved the team to a souless city like Las Vegas. As a Niners fan, Ive always respected the passion Raiders fans show towards their team win or lose. The Bay Area deserves two NFL teams.
Lot of encouraging signs with the youth movement with guys like Julian Peterson, Ahmed Plummer.. the 99 season was a total nightmare but 2000 set the foundation for the runs in 2001 and 2002. We put up so many points and yards. Garcia still holds the franchise record with 4278 yards.
hell yeah they did. I was right behind the end zone when Derek Carr threw a TD pass to Donald Penn. they killed the Niners' playoff hopes with that win. that remains one of the funnest games I've ever been to.
I'm glad this is being rivalry is being renewed for New Years Day. A worrying trend I've noticed is when the 49ers are good, we can't beat the Raiders, but when we stink, we beat the brakes off of them. Even though we have the division wrapped up, I want us to win. Let's hope no one gets arrested. Go Niners!
I was gonna say, the Raiders should be hungry, and we might be overlooking them. Certainly a guy like Jamal Adams has proven difficult for us to stop in the past.
I was hoping for either this game or the 2002 game to be uploaded. Both are classic games. Thanks for the upload. I know I already said this on the 2007 Colts vs. Chargers upload, but I think a good game to upload would be Dolphins vs. Patriots, Week 17, 2000. An even better game to upload would be Chicago vs. Detroit from that very same week, where Detroit was in a win-and-in scenario. EDIT: Love the pulsating logos! That's a very memorable part of these old broadcasts.
I REMEMBER THIS GAME LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY. PERFECT DEEP STRIKE TOUCHDOWN PASS FROM QB RICH GANNON TO WR TIM BROWN FOR THE WALK OFF WINNING TOUCHDOWN IN OVERTIME
I remember watching this game. Such an awesome time. The Raiders belong in Oakland (yes, I know, Oakland is a crappy city nowadays. So is SF. So are NY, Chicago, New Orleans, Detroit,....)
@@packersauburneric3625 Highly doubt it the material that came out was just too egregious, also rejecting Brady in 2020 when he was still an elite 97 overall QB will hurt him
I started watching the video thinking that it was another 49ers-Raiders game from around the same time frame that also went to OT, so at the end I was surprised that 49ers lost! Still, thanks for the upload.
First thing I noticed as a Niners fan is how much time Gannon had in the pocket to complete his throws. He would not be able to do that against the pass rushers the niners have now
This is double as much sweet for me......1st of all because the Raiders were my fav team beck in the 80s when i was living in LA.......2ndly because i hated the 49ers with a passion.....to this day, i still do!
4 HOF wide outs in this one. The game just feels different now, too much just trying to be the star on the field. Watching these throwbacks, there is celebration on the field, but it's brief and they get back to it.
They’ve used the correct one for several videos but this incorrect (2005-2021) logo for several videos as well. I HATED this logo. To an irrational level. So I’m glad it is now gone.
Back then when there was a battle of the bay in NFL... TO was phenomenal 🔥💪
We still got Tampa Bay vs Green Bay
Tim Brown was better
F@ck TO the best wr on that field went for 170+ yards and 2 Tuddys including the game winner.
Timmy Brown criminally underrated
A combined 53,000 career receiving yards and 450 receiving TDs between Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens and Tim Brown.
And Andre Rison has a few of those on his resume, too.
And if you add Napoleon Kaufman's receiving stats to that its 54000 yards and 455 tds!
@@alphonseblackwood2930lol that’s not even close to the top 3 in this game

Agreed. 90s decade football going into this era was great football. Lots of legends and very physical. I miss it.
Thank you for older, forgotten games like this NFL Throwback
I remember this game clearly. The OAK fans were absolutely rowdy to the max during this game. Owens and Brown put on an absolute clinic.
Raiders were loaded

He got hurt in Oakland vrs the ravens playoff game. fat Tony saragusa did it on purpose.

A real NFL throwback! Miss the loud grunts and smash mouth football and this was the best days of the NFL even though I still love the game
Who would've thought Charlie Garner and Jerry Rice would go on to join the Raiders next season.
Aww, you cut off Greg Gumbel's comment on Rison at 8:10..."Easy Andre, this isn't the XFL!" He said that in this game like 3-4 times lmao.
Underrated NFL on CBS theme
These 2 teams would face each other again a couple years later and again was decided in overtime
This is REAL football, back when football was football
For a 6-10 team, the 2000 49ers were fun to watch.
Charlie Garner was a solid back like a backup version of Brian Westbrook
Can't forget famous speedy James Jett for the raiders
The 49ers quickly and briefly fixed things up during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons
Lot of encouraging signs with the youth movement with guys like Julian Peterson, Ahmed Plummer.. the 99 season was a total nightmare but 2000 set the foundation for the runs in 2001 and 2002.

It's funny how Charlie Garner and Jerry Rice went to the Raiders a year later.
I remember a lot more Gruden jumping and fist pumping when I watched this live at ESPN ZONE in NY. Ah well, been a long time.

As a Raiders fan who grew up in a niners household I liked those dark burgundy red uniforms
