The worst part is that as 80’s horror movies go, it’s not that bad. It’s got some good suspense and build up. But knowing what went on behind the camera, you just can’t not see all the clues he put right out there.

I really want to thank you for actually addressing the horrible background of Victor Salva, instead of ignoring it - like so many other reviewers have when reviewing his films.
In this case, I'd argue it's difficult to separate the man from his work when he's actively inserting hints of his sexual fetishes into scenes. Like filming his young actors shirtless often, his young 12 year old star of Clownhouse not wearing any underwear then another scene slipping them on in full view, the antagonist of Jeepers Creepers sniffing the young man's underwear in a laundry basket to pick up his scent (!), the high school boys shirtless and peeing outside in Jeepers Creepers 2 (!!), and countless other stuff. Victor just can't resist treating his art like a platform for his personal pleasures.

I was molested at age 5 on many occasions by a neighbor,and it absolutely DESTROYED me. Although it's been years since that happened to me,I still re-live those horrifying times in my dreams (actually more like nightmares) thanks to the SOB who did this to me,as an adult,I suffer from anxiety,panic attacks,severe depression,no self esteem and have even been in the hospital for being suicidal. I am too afraid to talk to women,so I've never had a serious girlfriend. I cannot get close to anyone,because I am afraid that everyone will hurt me in some way or another. I live a lonely and sad life 😥 I have thought of taking my life many times,but I know I am too cowardly to do anything like that. I just find myself praying every single night that God doesn't let me wake up the next morning.

But this movie feels intent on reminding you what a creep the director was. I agree that certain unnecessary shots should have been cut in editing, especially with the arrest and conviction of the director.
This is a movie you don’t want deleted scenes for.. I remember renting this movie from my local video store as a child along with “night of the scarecrow and Pinocchio’s revenge and goosebumps the haunted mask on vhs” and finding the film eerie, turns out it was another type of horror all together doing research when I became an adult..
Sometimes it's down to bad direction. Salva probably told Rockwell to act like that in case the audience were too stupid to figure out that the character is meant to be an asshole
Yeah, the back story makes this one hard to watch. It has some great aspects, Sam Rockwell is always awesome, but one scene in particular features a cameo by Salva -- creepily ogling and standing behind the lead actor. I'm shocked he was ever given a chance with Powder following his prison sentence, but hey, that's Hollywood.

Until people boycott work by these kinds of people it will continue ad nauseam. Thanks doc for consistently pointing out this creeps past while still making an entertaining video. But in my opinion this would have been better left with less attention.
It's not really just about that though. I enjoy supporting the work of other people who contributed, because a movie isn't just one person. But until the entire team steps back (even at the risk of good pay for good or great work) a movie will still be made even in this situation.

I believe they're both right, people who dont want to see these films shouldn't feel like they're overreacting its akward for them and its understandable, and you also have people who really like the films they dont need to feel like they're doing something bad if they actually enjoy the film it just means that some can seperate the art from the artist alot easier than others and thats also understandable i suggest that both sides shouldn't be pressured and just be true to what they really feel

I remember when I was in middle school and talk of a new IT remake was said to come out. Me and my friends tried to watch the original here on UA-cam (like idiots) and mistaked this movie for that one. Needless after learning about the sexual assault of the main character we found this movie quite scary.

Always felt Clown House was like a Halloween special of Malcolm in the Middle if it were directed by a pervert.

You missed one of the creepy lines that one of the original clowns says when he thinks there’s a kid trying to sneak a peek of them changing. He says he’ll show them something they don’t want to see. It’s a really messed up line to add that makes way too much sense knowing what went on behind the scenes
I believe they're both right, people who dont want to see these films shouldn't feel like they're overreacting its akward for them and its understandable, and you also have people who really like the films they dont need to feel like they're doing something bad if they actually enjoy the film it just means that some can seperate the art from the artist alot easier than others and thats also understandable i suggest that both sides shouldn't be pressured and just be true to what they really feel
Couldn't agree with you more. Personally I don't think I could ever watch a Victor Salva film ever again because of what that animal did, but I do genuinely respect those who can still watch and enjoy his films despite the guy being a piece of shit.

I kept waiting for a shot at John Wayne Gacy, just surprised it took so long. I actually watched this a few months ago right here on UA-cam. It was crappy VHS or DVD rip but I don't think HD would have made it any better. It was just mediocre at best.

I remember when I was in middle school and talk of a new IT remake was said to come out. Me and my friends tried to watch the original here on UA-cam (like idiots) and mistaked this movie for that one. Needless after learning about the sexual assault of the main character we found this movie quite scary.

I remember renting this movie as a kid, I thought it was crazy, then I grew up and learned what happened durning the making of this film.. fuck man poor kids, this movie is rememberable for the ending, and pretty much anything after the whole “1 kid in the bathtub, 1 kid taking a shit and the other kid watching them 🤮
