Todd Bridges is a nice guy for sure. My wife and I were contestants on his game show Lovers and Losers at the Plaza Hotel. Todd helped me up the steps. We actually won! We won a trip to Florida. So we decided to do a cruise to the Bahamas. After we got back from the cruise we went to Disney World. Todd is great!!!! So are you! I'm catching up to you. Come September I will be 66 too.
Appreciate the channel. I still watch the show on METV!

He was a great little actor, played his Waltons role beautifully! Judy, I turn 66 this year too, as a young teen watching the Waltons was able to relate to Mary-Ellens angst. Amazing how some things don't change no matter what the era!

I may be young, but there are a few things I know about the world and how it works. People fear what they don’t understand, and they hate what they fear. Growing up in North Chesterfield, Richmond, Virginia, I have faced discrimination being a young African American. The educational system treated me differently and so did some of the kids my age. When Todd was on Little House on The Prairie, him saying he disliked being a N !! Everybody was speechless in the classroom. And when he asked one of the characters about living to be 100 years old. “Would you rather be black and live to be 100 or white and live to be 50?!” Micheal Landon really pondered that !!

Hi Judy! Todd it's good to see you. I have cought a number of your "World's Worst" episodes and as a former prosecutor and defense counsel in the Air Force and private practice, I could have provided you with 15 more seasons of "worst criminals." It' is amazing what people do. I and earlier asked Judy about Lynn Hamilton and she told me that Lynn is 95 and in a rest home not doing well. I always liked her in the Waltons and on Redd Fox's show.
As you know Redd is originally from St. Louis and I am 75 and live just an hour's drive from St. Louis so I 've heard some of Red's saltier stuff that he recorded in the 50-'s and 60's. Judy, again thank you for this show. I never tire of checking in with you.

I like how in Todd's episode the character Ike from the general store revealed himself to be a segregationist.
Where does he sleep? he asked John Walton, implying in polite white society Todd should have been banned from the household. Ralph Waite's face gave the perfect answer.
It was the Depression. Some rules were relaxed. Touching episode.

It’s great to see Todd Bridges interviewed by you dear Judy. I was happy to know that he appeared in The Waltons. I saw him from his days on Different Strokes alongside Gary Coleman. I loved that show. Great interview and may God bless you both!

Thank you so much, Judy, for inviting Todd Bridges and Todd for sharing your time and stories with us! I loved the Walton's storyline of Verdi and Hal's adopting you. It's amazing how many shows you were in! Such a talented young person. How wonderful your Mom taught you acting! Every guest Judy has hosted mentions how kind everyone on The Walton's was/is! Roots was quite spectacular, riveting stories, wonderful actors, terrible history. Yes, it's difficult to accept Ralph Waite as a slave owner in Roots. You were wonderful in LHOTP too! A charming and gifted child and still charming and gifted. Bless Walton's everywhere! ❤

I am so glad that Todd brought up growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I grew up there as well during the sixties and seventies, and I tell my children that there really wasn't any racism in that area at that time. It didn't make any difference what color you were, in fact, there were so few black people at my junior high, that if you were black, you were pretty popular. My sewing teacher in junior high was black, and I still have fond memories of her. Just sad what society does. Maybe someday we'll all get along and skin color won't matter. Enjoyed the interview.

This was a great interview, Judy. I recently watched “The Wisdom of Solomon” which was the Little House on the Prairie episode that Todd did. The storyline was similar to “The Stray” episode of The Waltons. Todd had two very memorable and thought-provoking lines in that episode. When the teacher, Miss Beadle, asked the children to name something they didn’t like, his answer was “Being a n*****” except he actually used the ‘n’ word. (I hope I don’t get censored for that). In another scene he asked Charles Ingalls if he’d rather be white and live to be 50 or black and live to be 100. He was a wonderful child actor on both Little House and The Waltons and everything else he was in. Thank you for another great video.

Thanks for sharing that line, “grade1teacher”, comparing 50 & 100 with different societal conditions. I’ve rarely seen the show & missed that episode. That’s fine writing & the question can still be
applied well to ask when people claim racism is gone.
I agree, Todd Bridges has always been a very good actor. Plus, I’m glad he’s had periods without feeling conditions of racism. Though I think one of many indicators of racism nationally was noticeable even passively: As recently as when Oprah aired (through mid-2011) in many markets that was the only time many commercials featured families who were black. Things have improved and more sharing seems critical to keep evolution building. Thanks for teaching, caring and sharing - here, too.

The fact that you were so young and could move back and forth from comedy to drama is amazing. I can't wait to see your next project. Will you be joining in any of the Waltons' reunions? I'm going to be 64 in October, a bit closer to Mary's age but still in the same generation. Maybe that's why the stories resonated with me. It was about kids of our ages but in a different era. Still going through similar experiences in our lives. Todd was lovely.
