Old tickets are cool.. I've got one for an 1877 church fundraiser in Hobart . Nice to see a follow up to this great old bridge, the 1st vid is what brought me to this channel, Brunel was a brilliant man
Yes he certainly was. Probably the greatest civil engineer the uk has ever had. So much of what he designed/built is still in use today and will last forever.
Learning about this bridge has probably been my favorite videos on objectivity. Even from here in Canada I find it incredibly interesting to learn about England and the rest of Great Britain's past. Thank you for all of the entertainment and knowledge you provide us with Brady throughout all of your channels.
I'm watching this video for the first time exactly 190 years after that first document was released; after being binge watching the channel for 2 days.
That the photographer was able to bring all of their equipment up to the top of that tower to take that picture of the deck of the bridge while in construction is quite a feat, indeed!!
I remember the scandal that precipitated the use of the automated barriers opened by tokens - they discovered a large discrepancy between the number of cars crossing and the number of tickets being issued. The toll collectors had very deep and strong pockets to take home half the tolls they collected!
4:25 And here we can see that people didn't know how to design anything, even before MS Word was invented. Did this invitation really need eight different fonts (nine if you count the one in the image on the top)? I don't think so :D
Wow, I learn from the video, and I learn from the comments! I was about to respond with, "I think a spanner is always adjustable", but before hitting reply I looked it up. Nope. The term does not imply adjustability.
It's a dinosaur found inside one of the vaults. In the last episode you could just barely see the femur of the "Lastiaimu-saurus" sticking out from beneath one of the interior walls. _Or_ it could be Brady's way of pronouncing "Last time you saw us", but I'm not so sure about that.
@@WhatAboutTheBee Nearly! We have iron chains, not cables and the cradle or gantry is used to transport maintenance workers along the chains or under the bridge deck to inspect them. What you're thinking of there is the saddle.
I can see the bridge from my living room window in the village, fantastic to be watching this video at the same time!
I envy you
What a great view.
In this episode: Brady lifts heavy things. Hard as nails, Dr. Haran is
He's battle tested
I like how meeting Martin involves taking a large wrench from him. I'm imagining he just greets everybody with a large wrench, it's customary.

Such a shame that modern engineering does not compare. A new house in Aus comes with a whole 7 year guarantee 🤦♂️🤣

That peep egg looks like something that would have taken a lot of time to make. Neat.

Wow, I don't think I have ever "liked" any video as fast as this one. I love bridges and objectivity!
Bloody brilliant! I absolutely love short documentaries like these. I never would have imagined livestock would have a separate toll fee.
I enjoyed Brady's enthusiasm!
Brady got to the nuts and bolts of building a bridge
Excellent video. Thank You.
Thanks for watching.
I love this bridge!
Really cool, I'm actually going to visit Bristol this August. I'm looking forward to seeing this bridge!
Brady - you are looking so good!
You were underground, overground, Bradying free.

10:08 "they don't build tools like this any more" they certainly don't. That is a proper tool.
Thumbs up for a huge wrench (or spanner, depending continent you're watching from). 🙂

Thumbs up for Brady's big tool.
I know I'm a bit late to the party with this comment but can someone transcribe what Brady calls that white growth from the ceiling at 5:11 and 5:17
Cool! More big engineering wouldn't be unwelcome!
Objectivity needs a second channel for extended versions, or just more info. I finished with this one wanting more, more, more...
Objectivity and Half as Interesting on the same day!
Any other Americans struggling to understand the bridge guy? But I do love hearing accents.
Our Martin is proper Brizzle. 'Ee' means "him/her/this/that/it", "int" means "isn't it". :)
8:44 absolute unit there
Bridges are f'ing awesome!
The sheep saved with the woolwich bank.
Nice meme mug.
NOW I'M GRANDFATHER
Is this guy From numberphile?
It was amazing,
Hey, Brady is at the cricket match, who is uploading this?
8:45 Now that's a proper Swedish nut lathe!
I wasn't expecting this crossover
That's a Monday spanner - you're too tired to use it the rest of the week.
Finalmente💕💕💕
0:03 What the heck is a "Lastaimusaurus"?

Loving these videos, what is a cradle in relation to the bridge?
I believe the cradle sits on top of the towers. It holds the suspension cable on location and protects it from damage.

@@brunelsbridgebristol I stand corrected! Thank you for a proper explanation!!
I am guessing that wrench is sized in proper Imperial measurements.
9:10 now THAT is proper spanner.
Hi Brady!
A tolls a toll and a rolls a roll and if we don't get no tolls then we don't eat no rolls.
“Pro-ject”.... the what??🤣 Great video though
Lasttimeyousaurus 😁
Seems like the sheep, and oxen tickets were made for the cunning Britons. an early patch for an early exploit lol
Wait a minute.. Shouldn't this bolt be in the bridge some where? lol
at 4:30 o' clock. Nice...
Precisely.
Nice dress
Really not a fan of permanent tolls myself...
Wish I had more time to watch these
they don't make tools like this anymore.... yeah they do. lol
I've been through some hydroelectric power generation locations... they definitely have some big dam wrenches.
@@diamondflaw They use them to turn the big dam bolts, right?
Pole
Hey cool that’s my name
