I was assigned to ComCruDesFlot 10 aboard the USS Boston CAG1 as a BMSN during this deployment , at the time of this photo COM6thFlt was aboard the Boston temporally ( his barge can be seen on the port side ) due to his flag ship USS Springfield had issues with a shaft and went back to the states for repairs. ComCruDesFlot 10 Adm. Weeks and entire staff embarked on the Rosie. His barge was a bit smaller . We were aboard the Rosie for about 8 weeks. Nice photo showing the Boston alongside the Rosie.
Nice to hear from you. Those were some of the "good ol' days". I'm retired and living in FL now. Being that the Rosie was home ported in Mayport, FL, I got to loving it down here.
Spent four years on the Rosie! 61 to 65 great ship great crew. Sailed from Barcelona to Istanbul. Stopped in many ports between. Homeport was Mayport Florida. was a shame they scrapped her. Spent Christmas a in Cannes France and Naples Italy, wonderful memories. If you need a change in your young life recommend the Navy.
My father was the air group commander (CAG-1) during this cruise. He left the FDR to become XO of the Independence (CVA 62) in '64. He loved his career in the Navy, he wouldn't have changed a thing, he said. Richard Fowler
We had some good times back then. Joining the Navy was the best thing I did for my career. I wasn't a lifer, but I got a lot of valuable, free training and a lot and doors were opened because of that training. I'm 78 and retired now, but I still look back at those years with a smile.
Great video ive done 3 Med Cruises and when ever they did a refueling which we called a (vert rep) or vertical resupply i would hide they are no fun thanks for sharing

It was great to see an airwing with some variety. Not like today with three flavors of Hornet.
