Im actually shocked Galaxy Girls never picked up. Thats such a good concept and the designs are such "hit cartoon" material. Like really, Pinkie picked up but that didn't?
Ikr? No hate to Pinkie, the dolls look cute, but I really wish Galaxy Girls got a shot. This was my first time hearing about the concept, and I absolutely ADORE the character designs and how Faust was able to incorporate each of the planets’ unique characteristics into their designs and the origins of their names. Like how Neptune is a surfer girl since her planet is named after the Roman god of the sea. Or how Saturn is a DJ with rings in her design, paying homage to her planet’s famous asteroid belt. Faust is an amazing creator, and I hope someday she might be able to revive the project and get it off the ground. Only if she wants to ofc. If she doesn’t, that’s perfectly fine. Just kind of sad how Hasbro slept on the potential of her idea.
Yeah but i think the dolls were a tad off I thought they would be plastic and that made me kinda disappointed I wanted to see how they looked like in plastic tbh
Faust is amazing. No one asked, but I met her in my Nightmare Rarity cosplay at the Nightmare Nights pony convention, she called me darling and told me i looked marvelous. Such a Rarity like comment, I wanted to die right there from happiness
Oh my god it's unfair how adorable the Galaxy Girls are, their designs are so cute. Absolutely criminal that Lauren Faust has been unable to bring them into the limelight after all these years.
I'm honestly shocked no one picked it up, I think it would've been a hit for sure. I can so vividly see an alternate reality where my teenage self is posting rabidly about a Galaxy Girls TV show on Tumblr in the mid-2010s.
In my personal opinion, all the designs suck except Jupiter ( hecking love Jupiter in this line, her vibes are impeccable ) but yeah I can definitely see an awesome kids show and doll line coming from these concepts.
eh I kinda have a love and dislike for it to be honest the designs honestly don't look that good in my opinion they kinda look ugly but it sounds and looks interesting
I met the author of Pinky and Pepper forever!! He was super nice and cool and is actually aware of this video since the video being posted actually boosted his sales a bit :) (now I have a signed copy of the book, it's very cool)
she's literally slaying, THIS is fashion to me tbh. not the bra-shirts and unbuttoned mom jeans I see all over instagram. she's got a really good eye for creative makeup!
i was convinced for literal YEARS that the pinkie cooper animations were just a fever dream i made up in my head until i accidently came across pinky and pepper forever on the internet, very cool that you mentioned those in your video! and i also remember the rat dolls, the molds are kinda cool ngl
I didn’t know it was anything on the internet, it was an art exhibit in Columbus for a bit and I got a comic that was being sold of them! I can’t believe I had no clue about it LMAO
I didn't even know about the animations, i just had a doll that was my absolute favorite as a kid. I completely forgot about it and suddenly remembered when i saw a toy similar to these ones.
I think my favorite detail of milky way is that they're all wearing rollerskates, they all have their own little flair to them and i think its a cute way to represent the planets orbiting (like a roller rink you typically go around in circles around it)
Lauren Faust deserves the biggest recognition day ever for all the IPs she’s uplifted while putting her own incredible ideas on the backburner. If Toil and Trouble never comes out in my lifetime I’ll be so upset :(
Galaxy Girls has SO much potential. I’m sure it’ll get picked up one day. Imagine the OC’s and fanfic that’ll come out of that show alone. It would be glorious.
Ok so this isn't related to dolls, but I'd just like to say that things like the Pinky and Pepper comic motivate me to make my own stuff. I really want to make a vocal synth fancomic following my interpretations of the various characters/mascots, yet I always restrain myself with thoughts such as "what if people begin to hate me for straying away from the canon material?" or just "what if people think it's cringe?"; and I've come to realize that's kinda silly. I should be more like the creator of this comic and just do what makes me happy, instead of sitting and reminiscing about hypothetical backlash. Now, to have the energy to draw a bunch of panels and stuff... yeah, that's another story.
Broke: Trashion Alley dolls had humanoid Monster High-esque heads with rat ears and whiskers Woke: Trashion Alley dolls had hyperrealistic rat heads Bespoke: Trashion Alley dolls were always headless. That's the complete doll.
i remember i would cut the heads off some dolls and put plastic animal heads on them when i was younger,,so like there'd be a market for the realistic rat heads lmao edit:i am realizing this sounds insanely creepy lmao i swear i'm not crazy
It’s creepy that Trasion Alley didn’t have heads. I think it keeps them very mysterious and unanswered which for some reason unsettles me that we don’t know what they would look like (obviously not scary). Also I’m really surprised Pinky Cooper isn’t remembered by people because I always remember them being in stores when I was young.
Hi ik im late but about 3-4 or so months ago they did find an unpainted head. still leaves a lot to be answered and yeah i agree its unsettling and mysterious
When izzy said that the comic had nsfw themes I assumed she meant seggs but then she just hits me with the ‘she encased herself in a tub of resin to prove her dedication to her art’ Babe I was on the floor fighting for my life…like go off that’s low key iconic but also maybe don’t??
I am sorry, I never knew about Galaxy Girls and I now wished that they were big. Their design are really close of that of PPG with a more teen aesthetics and ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH IT.
I've literally never heard of galaxy girls until today, but, my god, WHY DIDN'T IT GO FURTHER!!!! SERIOUSLY. It literally could've been the biggest new doll line since bratz. I would've been all over it as a kid
The thing I always found interesting about Faust's Galaxy Girls project was just how feasible and achievable it is as a concept. Usually when someone in the animation industry has an ongoing passion project that they're trying to get off the ground it's failure is most often a case of the ambition of the project being beyond the scope of what could be achieved from a production standpoint. Y'know, stuff like the scope of the story or art required for the work requiring a gigantic budget, the story pushing some kind of boundary that studio backers are hesitant to cross or some aspect of the project not being marketable enough for the tastes of the studio execs. Galaxy Girls, by contrast, has always just seemed like an entirely reasonable and achievable pitch for both an animated series and a line of dolls and it's kind of baffling to me that it never got picked up? The character designs themselves seem like they would be really easily translated into doll form and follow the same baseline template making production easy. Faust definitely wanted to push some boundaries in making sure there was a diverse representation of personalities and POVs represented in the cast of characters, but not in a way that would be unheard of in a kids' cartoon in the early 2010s. Honestly the only potential production complication is how many characters are in the main cast and the problems that could pose from a story perspective for an animated series, but the concept she came up with for the series seems like it pretty handily nips that problem in the bud. Overall, in an industry where every creator has a pie-in-the-sky concept for a series that's never going to get off the ground, it's such a weird and kind of sad thing that such a well thought out and reasonable concept never made it. I hope Lauren Faust gets a chance to revisit the Galaxy Girls at some point in the future.
The designs gave me stronger Powerpuff Girls vibes than any of the actual reboots, honestly. If they went with that first style they could make absolute bank on the people like me wishing there was something more like the original show out there.
Yeah, the Galaxy Girls would be super marketable. Lots of different characters with their own styles and personalities, so there's one that every kid can identify with. And the designs are so appealing that they'd be great for not only dolls, but merchandise in general. I'm also surprised that it never got picked up for anything. Like, another common obstacle for passion projects in media is that the concept isn't very marketable, or it's pretty risky and out-of-the-box, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Galaxy Girls. I feel like the only obstacle to toy production is that the main character doesn't wear a ton of pink. (toy companies always want to slather girl toys in pink)
They would be so marketable-- and without the need to even get it to a network. Faust could easily work on a UA-cam miniseries. and the characters each have a very solid aesthetic that would be great for fashion dolls!
This is an awesome comment and describes Izzy to a T lol 😂💯👍! In fact whenever I decide to adopt another cat in the far future I'm gonna name her Izzy 😆!
I mean the cases have been known to break things- FroggyCrossing broke a dish her normal case never broke but it was the casetify case that completely destroyed it lol
The Galaxy Girls has really fun character designs and concepts, that I can totally see as a show that would air on Cartoon Network. Such a shame that it hasn't been made yet, but hope that it happens someday soon.
My favorite detail from the galaxy girls was the part in Uranus’ bio where she insists that it’s pronounced “your-un-us” or something like that to avoid the inevitable jokes. So memorable even all these years later!
Trashion Alley is SUCH a cool concept! If they gave them actual mouse heads that were cute and have a fleshed out backstory, I think this could have been a banger.
OH THIS REMINDS ME My sibling used to be really into these things called ball-joint dolls. They're these moderately creepy, weirdly detailed resin dolls that cost hundreds of dollars that you get from korea or something. Apparently there was a whole subculture around these things and maybe might be worth looking into for a video!
Lol Asian Ball Jointed Dolls. I have many! They were started by a Japanese company who calls them Super Dollfies. Then many Korean companies came out and began to make their own BJDs. They're completely customizable so they're a really attractive hobby for creative types.
one doll line that I've always thought was really interesting was Novi Stars. it was a series of alien-like dolls that all had unique gimmicks to them like their legs being filled with water and glitter like a snowglobe or their body glowing in the dark and there was even one that was scented. they were released in 2012, went on hiatus in 2013 and released a final line in 2014 before being discontinued. I remember them fondly when I was a kid but never got any of them because I didn't like the limited articulation (they only had joints in the shoulders, hips, and neck iirc) and that they were pretty expensive when compared to other dolls. info about them is pretty scarce since they were not very big like monster high but I do remember there being a commercial about them that made me want to get one. I really wish we still had dolls like this because they were SO not like other doll lines in every way, that and I feel there's WAY too many human dolls out there
Thank you for mentioning them! It's sad to see how people don't discuss them that much :< A post was shown in this video where someone attached a Alie Lectric head to a Trashion Alley body, but Izzy didn't comment on it. I actually have two Novi Stars dolls right now that I love a lot!
I have such a soft spot for those dolls! I bought my best friend one for her 17th birthday when they first came out because she loves cute alien stuff and she still has it on display in her childhood bedroom. I had to look it up, but I got her the Una Verse doll which is the one with the water and glitter legs!
I love the idea of Thrashion Alley. I can imagine the cartoon coming with the doll line teaching young girls the value of recycling waste and protecting the environment.
I'm actually kind of upset the Milky way and the galaxy girls didn't become a thing, it has a really nice and appealing art style, which kind of reminds me of like the mid 2000's or 2010's. Now that MLP has ended, i hope that we maybe get to see the project amount to something, it oozes a very specific charm to me.
I remember finding Lauren Faust's deviantart back when I was 10 and falling in love with all the artwork she posted of the Galaxy Girls. It's such an interesting and cool concept and I still think it'd work really well even today, I could totally see it gaining a huge following just like MLP. Lauren Faust has a lot of strengths as a character designer and writer so I'd love to see this passion project get picked up someday. Also, imagine how cool the dolls for the series could be. I'd love to see stylized, articulated fashion dolls of the girls. They could have those chunky shoes that pop off the legs like Bratz or MyScene, too. There's so much potential for them...
Her cute style was the one who inspired me to become a artist. I kind of borrow from PPG which I started drawing as a 90s girl. Even created my own OCs my family were very supportive of my skills and over time they developed. My cute style changed to the one I use now
I remember seeing the commercials for them all the time and kinda wanted one. I'm surprised they were only produced for a year, I thought the commercial were shown a lot longer than that.
I've been a fan of Pinkie Cooper line ever since it first came out and after the cancellation as well, yet it's literally my first time hearing about that "Pinky and Pepper Forever" comic, I didn't know that it had gained a following of sorts, that's unique
as an astrologer, milky way and the galaxy girls blew my mind. you don’t know what you did showing this to me. i already told my fav astrologers about it. it’s literally going to be my life mission to get mwgg the attention it deserves bc omfg
It’s so nice you reviewed such an obscure concept - Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls!! Ever since my first encounter with it in June 2020, I immediately got into it. However since nobody ever talked about it, I decided to make an animated series myself upon hearing the rejecting, as a fan project. Seeing MWGG get more recognition nowadays makes me so excited!! Even Faust herself redesigned the girls!
@@KaminoKatie I’m trying to get her attention!! It’s so hard. But I don’t want to spam her Twitter either. I only promoted it once and that’s it. Anything else I comment is related to her tweet.
I actually looked up Trashion Alley, and I’m not gonna lie I love what people are doing with it, especially Crystalline Toybox’s take on what the finished dolls and even a playset would look like. I’m not gonna lie, if the dolls came out when I was a kid, I probably would have wanted them!
Okay, I am in love with those Pinkie Cooper sculpts. Anthro dolls definitely tend to dip into the uncanny valley as you brought up and I love when it's done right, especially on a mainstream line. I would have also LOVED to see the heads for those rats. I absolutely love the body sculpts and that custom Goth Rat is 100% up my alley.
Lauren Faust must have presented the Galaxy girls at a convention. My parents took to to conventions when I was very young and I have a print of Milky way and mercury. They were on my bedroom door for years!! I assumed they were from a random artist, not LAUREN FAUST??
@@unofficialmilkyway6986 yeah I mean My Little Pony is already something that existed for YEARS even before Lauren decided to make a new show for it don't get me wrong I love my little pony is a amazing good kids show but galaxy girls sounds like an amazing cool show plus it's original (what I mean by that is that unlike my little pony it's a show that never existed and it's not some show made for something that already existed for years)
@@Kane093-s2d I feel bad for Faust. Whenever she pitches an original (MWGG, Lolli Pop, etc) concept it gets rejected and she is forced to stick with a reboot (MLP:FiM and DCSHG).
I'm forever lamenting the loss of the Novi Stars doll line. I was in love with their alien designs and the individual gimmicks of each doll. I tried to collect as many as I could of the existing dolls and they're my favourite amongs my entire collection 👽✨️
Milky Way and the galaxy girls is such a unique concept and honestly a BIGGG breath of fresh air when it comes to girl-targeted cartoons! It’s such a smart concept and while I love the og designs the most I’d watch it just the same with the new ones simply bc the concept is TOO. GOOD.
I’m a 30 year old male and somehow Izzzyzzz ALWAYS picks topics that feel like stepping into a whole other world of pop culture history than what I know and it’s always fascinating
Follow Up I love the modern and mid-00’s designs for Milky Way and The Galaxy Girls phenomenal character design I hope she tries again and someone takes her up on it
@@owentwo982 It's because the video is trending, someone sets up a bot to artificially drive up traffic to another video by flamebaiting for a response.
I didn't get into dolls until I discovered Super Dollfies and BJDs for the first time. The fact that they are completely customizable really attracted me. I think regular doll lines are cute, but customizing your own is just such a fun concept. You can have some OC from something you wrote, and can easily turn them into a physical doll and make them tangible -- the best part of this being that MALE DOLLS are produced more than female dolls in the BJD world. And now there's endless companies to choose from.
I fell in love with this comic too. It reminded me of my art school years, the art style is fantastic, and the plot was so creative! I honestly want a printed copy, I NEED it. I read the comic like 4 times already.
I read it too, it was just the kind of grundge I was looking for: seemingly amateurish and yet professionally crafted. If pinkie cooper were to ever comeback, I think it would be interesting if it adopted this version of the characters, and became a grundgy artsy line aimed at older audiences. keeps me wondering.
When it comes to Trashion Alley, counterfeiting toys is a huge thing over in China. I collect and paint display miniatures (from companies such as Mindwork Games for example) and there is a big problem with piracy from China in that industry. They get the models, use them to make molds, then mass produce them using cheap, poor quality resin. They're called "garage kits" and they sell them at a fraction of the original price on sites like eBay, Wish, AliExpress and sometimes even Etsy. The same thing could be happening here with the rat dolls. Someone in China probably managed to get their hands on one of the prototypes, used it to make molds and is now selling them.
they do this with LPS and the takara tomy pokemon figures. sometimes the quality is so similar that it's super difficult to tell them apart. That being said, there are a surprising amount of authentic ones, some still in packaging. no clue how they get that stuff after so many years
People have already brought up why they think they’re real, but I also think if they were fakes, there would be more coming out. There’s clearly interest, but nobody’s filling that demand, so I assume the seller had a limited supply.
I remember I used to have a Pinkie Cooper doll. I had Pinkie😭 I used to take her hair out and hide it somewhere in my mom's blanket while she was sleeping so she would be scared when she woke up and felt it touching her leg or something. Oh the memories :')
@@189bccIfYouGetItYouGetIt little me would've thrown a fit. I protected that doll WITH MY LIFE! Then my mom gave it away to my cousin but that's beyond the point
Aww man, i wished Galaxy Girls was an actual cartoon. Young me was OBSESSED with anything that had to do with the universe, and Lauren's designs for the girls were just so cute and definetely had a lot of thought put into it
Man that sucks Galaxy Girls was never picked up. It honestly sounds like a recipe for a successful doll line and a cute show. Also wild to learn more about the doll world. I'm not into it, but it's fun to learn about niche subcultures that I know nothing about
My sister had pinky cooper dolls. We used to play the strangest werewolf games with them and our bratz. Only instead of becoming a terrifying monster at the full moon, we became fashionable dog girls who were amazing at singing for some reason. Good times.
thats absolutely hilarious. i always wanted a pinky cooper doll growing up, but my mom thought they looked weird for being animals with makeup. i missed out on so much 😭
I’m a member of the OOAK community and I love learning about these things! I actually really want to make a doll of you, Izzzyzzz, cause your makeup would be so fun to recreate on a doll!
@@superoriginalusername. Go for it!!! It can be pricey if you jump head first into things like watercolor pencils, sealant, etc so I recommend starting with acrylic paints, mod-podge, and glitter! Its super forgiving and you can do so many cool things with them!
Fun update: Li Speaks covered the same doll lines in her videos, including the trashion alley ones. And in a follow up video she actually had information of heads being found. The heads are actually very rat like and actually sculpted like it. They weren't just human heads with an extra pair of mouse ears and some painted on whiskers. They were genuinely rat shaped. That just makes it even more sad, because it would've been a really cool doll line
@@MusicLove852 I might have mistaken who made the videos then. But I know that there's an update on the trashion alley dolls where they actually found a head. Sorry for the confusion! 😅
@@BeepBoopBee hey no problem. I watched another izzzyzzz doll video after this "MORE lost and cancelled dolls" and found the update. Thanks for helping out!
Lalaloopsy! A few days ago I remembered that it had existed and was a large part of my childhood. I had a DSi game, one of the dolls, and had watched the shorts when they came on. I think I even had a book. It would be really cool if you happened to talk about it at some point! :D
The artist for Pinky and Pupper Forever had a small exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art a few years ago and I got to see the custom dolls behind plexiglass and it was really cool to see! There was also cardboard stands of the characters there too.
I saw that exhibit! It was amazing! My university was able to hold a major specific class interview with the artist while the residency was on going at the time, and it was fascinating to hear him talk about his process of artistic development growing up with deviantart and different internet fan communities. His work is definitely aimed for older audiences, but it's definitely worth checking out his work on instagram and his other print works.
yeah that was a really cool exhibit! the standups were a really cool photo op lol. eddy also gave a lecture and was selling some comics, taking commissions, etc. at a little comic expo at the columbus library. I bought a print from the book there that I still have framed on my wall!
I'd love to know what happened with What's Her Face dolls. They were pretty creepy, as they were complete dolls with blank faces, which you would then stamp facial features onto. They didn't last for very long. I'd love to know how they made it onto shelves in the first place.
YOU! YOU JUST HELPED ME MORE! There was a video game based on this doll line (but I didn't know that until now). I could never remember the name of the game, but I wanted to see it again. I looked the doll line up and got to see the game in all its 2002 graphics glory
I had one as a kid! Also, I didn't remember they existed until now, which just goes to show what a wasted concept it was, because it's great for doll customizers, but the execution managed to make the concept so boring and bland looking.
As a very loving rat parent and doll collector, rat fashion dolls are a obsession I never knew I'd have, but here we are. I wish Hasbro would release them, it's honestly the cutest concept ever.
@@elcat2577 That's kind of sad, rats are wonderful. Have people the same urge to tell everyone when they don't like cats or dogs? Or is it more accepted to hate on rats, even towards their owners? Maybe it's just a strange concept to me to hate animals. Rats are just the sweetest little souls.
As a doll enthusiast, very specifically into the ooak doll community, I'm BEYOND happy this gets a deep dive. There's more drama about the new gen monter highs since the film released, and I'm hoping the mermaid high dolls get some coverage here, because those were a super interesting cancellation
As someone who is neck deep into the doll community, nothing brings me more joy than talking about weird discontinued doll lines. I BEG of you to make this a series 💖 (even though I know and fear how much the prices are gonna raise on eBay now on said doll lines but it will be worth it lol)
I feel the same but honestly it's probably not actual collectors and fans who drive up the prices. It's those heartless scalpers who don't care at all what they are selling
My knowledge of dolls is limited to early 00 Japanese Dollfies, but having seen Phelous's "Bootleg Zone" series on Galaxy Warriors, & PatMac's videos on prototype Sonic toys, I'm eager for more of this sort of thing.
@@LePezzy66 That's always going to be the truth. It's like the housing situation right now; it's not that too many people want houses right now making them unaffordable & unobtainable, it's asshole libertarians buying them all up as investment properties.
5:22 The dress isn't fabric scraps, those are cupcake liners. That's why they're sort of crimped and have those edges. That blue and white stripe pattern is super common on cheap cupcake liners.
Izzy, THANK YOU for turning me on to Pinky and Pepper Forever! I had not heard of it before, and I just read through it. Disturbing and emotional, but heartwarming and funny. Wasnt expecting to get attached to a wlw comic about puppy girl reapers based on an abandoned toy line tonight, but I am definitely not complaining!
I have a Pinkie Cooper doll (Ginger)! She's adorable and I'm glad I got her before she was cancelled. It was neat to learn about the other lost lines here! :)
I am so in love with the last doll line??2??2?2 I love anything about planets and galaxies and celestial bodies, and seeing it be a doll line?? If I was a deviant art kid back then, man. I'd have gone crazy. Shame I wasn't much on the internet around the 2010s.
I love the story of the galaxy girls, the small implication of her trying to advertise her own project and having the Board of Directors not brush her off, but instead say that she is what they’re looking for for a different project and asking if she’d work on that instead
Here in Mexico we have a doll called “Casimeritos” a play of words meaning like “almost there” and the Spanish name “Casimiro”. So, what doll could it be something that is almost there ? Fetuses, unborn babies… or babies that were born prematurely, they even come with a medical capsule
DUDE I REMEMBER MILKY WAY AND THE GALAXY GIRLS I THOUGHT IWAS THE ONLY ONE! I was around 11-13 y/o when Lauren Faust was showing off her art for the concept, i followed her already bc she was a big inspiration to me and i was Immediately in love with all the designs and obsessed!!! I was SO bummed when it didn't turn into an actual IP! So excited that your talking about it!
living for the unexpected izzzyzzz/eddy atoms crossover, as someone who’s super into alt/indie comics but unfamiliar with doll fandom i had no idea p&p forever had such a big fanbase!! it’s one of my fav comics ever this makes me so happy
I think my favorite "cancelled" dolls are the Barbie dolls that came out in Japan for a limited time. They had a totally different face screening and were based off of the manga art style. Ugh! It was such a neat concept
The Takara Barbies!! They are my favorite too! I have one head that I'm waiting on a made-to-move skin match for. If you like the Takara Barbie, you'll probably love Jenny and Licca. They have a different kind of body, but that same big eyed face. Licca is probably bigger in Japan than Barbie is elsewhere. Her fashion and accessory line is vast!!
Between Izzzy and Negative Legend I'm learning so much about dolls that I honestly never thought was ever a thing like the most I knew was some people were into custom Monster High I had no idea how much deeper the Doll fandom iceberg went
Hasbro definitely tried out some strange ideas with dolls! My fave is an adorable doll called Little Miss No Name- the concept was that she was an orphan on the streets ☠️ and she has this really sad face and massive eyes, messy hair and a teardrop running down her face. Such a strange concept for a doll but I would LOVE to have one
Fun fact about dolls: Back when a lot of gay people went to raves wearing cock rings on their necks as a necklace. They wanted to appeal to more people, so they did some market research and didn't realise the nature of the rings, the end product was a Ken doll wearing late 1993 rave clothes with a cock ring necklace. It sold so much that it outsold every other Ken Doll of the Barbie company, and as far as I know it's the highest selling to this day despite being recalled after 6 months It's called The Earring Magic Ken
I've been chronically online for so goddamn long, I remember her selling those original galaxy girl dolls on dA back in the day. I can imagine she's just tired because she's had such an explosive and busy decade, I think the concept will return someday!
I remember being obsessed with the Pinkie Cooper dolls when they first released! I wanted to buy them but I was going into college and had no money. Every time I went to the store I would detour to go stare at them. Still sad that I never got my hands on one, but I did end up making custom furry dolls out of pipecleaners and fake fur from the craft section as well as little clay figures.
I'd love to see a part 2. This was awesome. Blythe, little miss no name, peteena, flatsy dolls, leggy dolls (there's been a few long legged doll lines since that are also now cancelled), emerald witch are all awesome vintage examples if you wanted to do maybe a "strange dolls of yesteryear" video. For more modern dolls Novi stars, atractionistas, all the uncanny valley celebrity dolls that never looked like the celebrity, whats her face,
I remember getting a Pinky Cooper doll when I was like 8 or so on Christmas, that weird dog human hybrid was my fav doll for years! I love how ppl are taking this weird obscure doll line and building whole new comics and stories with awesome art styles, you people inspire me truly!
weirdly enough, i swear to god i had that milky way and the galaxy girls book when i was younger. i don't know how we got it, but i had it as a child and i remember reading it and wondering what it was from!! i dont know if we still have it but i might go searching for it later.
Once at a Toys R Us I found a Milky Way plush doll. It was missing an earring and was marked down from $50 to $5. I knew the character from Lauren Faust's deviantArt which I followed, and absolutely flipped. To this day I'm grateful to have it.
one of my favorite discontinued doll lines is zombie girls, i think the concept is so cute and really wish they could've gone on to have more lines and collections, i know i would've collected them for sure!
I've always loved dolls and learning about canceled dolls or doll lines is just so fascinating. I find the designs and concept art of the dolls really neat, though it does make it sad that they never made it to the shelves, because I do feel like they have a lot of potential to be a popular doll line.
I don't know if you'd consider doing a second part of this (maybe making it a series?), but in terms of lost/cancelled dolls, the line I always think of are La Dee Da dolls. I was in a weird age when they came out where I didn't really care for their cutesy faces and candy-based designs, but I also remember seeing ads for them. Really, what I miss is their awesome website because they had some sick flash games and I loved playing one, but I think the website was gone long before flash died. Either way, I don't even know if they really count as lost or cancelled, I think they just flopped, but they still hold a place in my heart (and if it weren't for me finding them via unrelated searches since I forget the name, I might think they were a fever dream or something I made up).
I'M CRYING PEOPLE ARE FINALLY ADRESSING MILKY WAY AND THE GALAXY GIRLS... I've been yearning this series for YEARS now, it's such a good concept! And I know that younger me would have been OBSESSED with it ):
I actually own one of the Jet Set Pet dolls! I got Pinky a reaaaallyy long time ago for christmas and to be honest i forgot i even had the doll until i read pinky and pepper for ever like years and years later. She's a pretty high quality doll and pretty detailed i wanna say, i really hate the line was canceled because they're such cool dolls..
As a kid growing up I loved pretending I was an animal or monster as one does. That’s why I enjoyed monster high sm dolls ranged from werewolf’s to vampires. And I wish there were more dolls out that like that That’s why I like the idea of the rat dolls 3:53
Wow, I actually really like the idea and concept she had for the show. That would teach young kids about the planets in a really creative way! I wish they had taken her pitch, but I also am glad she made mlp.

They're adorable!!! I'm going to keep up with them! I hope to see the dolls, comics, WHATEVER in the future!!!
Faust could easily work on a UA-cam miniseries. and the characters each have a very solid aesthetic that would be great for fashion dolls!

one doll line that I've always thought was really interesting was Novi Stars. it was a series of alien-like dolls that all had unique gimmicks to them like their legs being filled with water and glitter like a snowglobe or their body glowing in the dark and there was even one that was scented. they were released in 2012, went on hiatus in 2013 and released a final line in 2014 before being discontinued.

Is it just me or would those dolls make perfect collectors dolls? They genuinely seem like something people would keep
These dolls kind of look like prototypes, the China molds usually are good but not *that* good
they do this with LPS and the takara tomy pokemon figures. sometimes the quality is so similar that it's super difficult to tell them apart.
Oh the memories :')

omg yes!! Lalaloopsy!! i forgot about them!!
@@Reaganrocks12 Cartoon Crossroads? I used to go every year before Covid!! I miss it so much
@@chickaroo111 yeah that’s right, i miss it too. It was always a nice place to pick up some cool zines, books and art
5:09 its a doily, they're not popular in modern homes but they're a decorative lacey thing to put under objects etc
I'd love to know what happened with What's Her Face dolls. They were pretty creepy, as they were complete dolls with blank faces, which you would then stamp facial features onto. They didn't last for very long. I'd love to know how they made it onto shelves in the first place.
i Really want to make a reboot of it
YOU! YOU JUST HELPED ME MORE! There was a video game based on this doll line (but I didn't know that until now). I could never remember the name of the game, but I wanted to see it again. I looked the doll line up and got to see the game in all its 2002 graphics glory
@@ajj4515 I don't remember the video game, but I remember that you could make "music videos" on the website and that music is burned into my brain.
OH MY GOD I HAD ONE OF THOSE... LOVED HER, i had the pen where you could just freestyle the face
Frrr, I thought their bodies looked so cute. Im so sad to see they never became a thing
Ew 🤮
@@youtubewontletmetypeagoodu8128 But... why?
@@awetistic5295 They don't like rats apparently.
There's more drama about the new gen monter highs since the film released, and I'm hoping the mermaid high dolls get some coverage here, because those were a super interesting cancellation
discontinued doll lines is one of my favorite topics to discuss ever thank you so much for dropping this
As someone who is neck deep into the doll community, nothing brings me more joy than talking about weird discontinued doll lines.
@@LikaLaruku I wanna know if dolls also have a galaxy hole of their own.
Same! I read it yesterday.
Same 😭 i am left yearning for more; any recs for comics like this?
@@Redbeank4 right?? same here! i need more disturbing but cute wlw comics! im fr hyperfixating on pinky and pepper rn 😭
Same for me, I weirdly enjoyed it so much
@@Redbeank4 Eddy’s publisher Silver Sprocket puts out a lot of cool stuff!
I have a Pinkie Cooper doll (Ginger)! She's adorable and I'm glad I got her before she was cancelled. It was neat to learn about the other lost lines here! :)
A kid choked on mine and her mother slapped me in the face I should make a video for conext
I've Ginger and Pinkie as well, also really glad to have got them before the line got cancelled, they're just so lovely to have in one's collection ^^
I used to have a few...I REALLY wish I hadn't donated my doll collection
I found one in a second hand store and now I kinda wish I had bought it 😣
I am so in love with the last doll line??2??2?2 I love anything about planets and galaxies and celestial bodies, and seeing it be a doll line?? If I was a deviant art kid back then, man. I'd have gone crazy. Shame I wasn't much on the internet around the 2010s.
I love the story of the galaxy girls, the small implication of her trying to advertise her own project and having the Board of Directors not brush her off, but instead say that she is what they’re looking for for a different project and asking if she’d work on that instead
I am so shocked that I knew about pinky Cooper via being a doll collector and not a massive lesbian nerd. I really need to read that comic!
Yes, you should! It’s very short, you could most likely read it in less then 30 minutes.
I was obsessed with the website back in the day!!
I remember being the same age and found her girls on DA!!! I was in LOVE with the designs!!!
@@LocalTorchwoodIntern oh my god same! I was really hoping it would be a series 😭

Yesss eddy atoms is the best!
I love pinky and pepper forever it has such a special place in my heart as a doll obsessed gay girl❤️
I love eddy atoms art so fucking much I never read Pinky and Pepper but i love the art style and screencaps ive seen of the comics
@@bussydandruff1580 It’s very short, you should give it a go!
Do you have any recommendations of similar comics? I really enjoyed p&p forever.
Begging Izzy to do a full review on pinky & pepper forever 😭💕
I’ll still be complaining about Ever After High being cancelled on my death bed. BRING IT BACK DAMN IT!
Give us a proper conclusion
Ever after high was like Snow White and disney was the evil godamn stepmother
@Yourfriendlyneighborhoodsimp Yeah same its all disneys fault I hate them >:(
I think my favorite "cancelled" dolls are the Barbie dolls that came out in Japan for a limited time.
Going for that kidcore look, love it. Your outfits are always so dope dude
Thank you so much for the shoutout and what you said about Pinky & Pepper Forever and dolls in general. Really appreciate it!!
I have to thank my partner, Cube, for showing me your book. We own it! So awesome to see it💖 love your art sooooo much!
Wow thank you so much Eddy, it’s a huge honour!!! :)
Bro I remember the Pinkie Cooper doll commercials- it’s kinda cool seeing them in a lost media/cancelled list now, like legit crazy
Fun fact about dolls:
Back when a lot of gay people went to raves wearing cock rings on their necks as a necklace. They wanted to appeal to more people, so they did some market research and didn't realise the nature of the rings, the end product was a Ken doll wearing late 1993 rave clothes with a cock ring necklace. It sold so much that it outsold every other Ken Doll of the Barbie company, and as far as I know it's the highest selling to this day despite being recalled after 6 months
It's called The Earring Magic Ken
Yet another reason why Ken is the better barbie
They W H A T ?
this is hilarious
It's a funny urban legend but thats probably not true. Heres a video that talks about the doll in detail ua-cam.com/video/hTa22yZ1ESw/v-deo.html
Sounds like an urban legend
For more modern dolls Novi stars, atractionistas, all the uncanny valley celebrity dolls that never looked like the celebrity, whats her face,
Blythe still continues to this day though (unless you specifically mean like, Blythe
Cool finding you here, I HOPE YOU FIND THE BOOK THO ;;
I'm literally so excited to watch this, I love learning about cancelled toy lines
Once at a Toys R Us I found a Milky Way plush doll. It was missing an earring and was marked down from $50 to $5. I knew the character from Lauren Faust's deviantArt which I followed, and absolutely flipped. To this day I'm grateful to have it.
honestly the rat dolls would be a really successful doll line if they were released today, people love rats
Izzy please do an episode on Living Dead Dolls, there’s no essay videos on them and I actually think there’s a lot of untapped potential there.
I have the Dracula and Daphne. It would be cool to see some Monster High.
I've seen those! They look awesome!
i love them i have 2!!!
Thanks to this video, I read Pinky and Pepper Forever and really fell in love with it. Really excited for my physical copy to arrive! Thanks izzzyzzz!
one of my favorite discontinued doll lines is zombie girls, i think the concept is so cute and really wish they could've gone on to have more lines and collections, i know i would've collected them for sure!
Lauren Faust is like one of my idols, and I just wish her personal projects would be fully realised
YESSSS also i think it would be
Amazing if they like actually made them now they have that 2000s vibe you know like that's what coming back
I actually own one of the Jet Set Pet dolls!
OMG everything Lauren Faust does is gorgeous!
Yes! She’s my idol-ish
As a kid growing up I loved pretending I was an animal or monster as one does. That’s why I enjoyed monster high sm dolls ranged from werewolf’s to vampires. And I wish there were more dolls out that like that
That’s why I like the idea of the rat dolls 3:53
