I can speak chinese, japanese and korean, and korean is definitely the easier out of the 3 because they use a phonetic alphabet like system (combine the radicals to make sounds) whereas chinese each character means something entirely different so you have to memorize them all. Japanese is in the middle because they not only use chinese hanzi characters (kanji) but they also have two seperate alphabets - hiragana and katakana 😭all of them are hard, but chinese is definitely the hardest
some Japanese words are just English spelled out using Japanese alphabets, Chinese only uses characters each representing different things therefore its difficulty
The guy with the spiky hair and hoodie is Tony in the Papa Louie games, and he's basically a self-insert of one of Flipline's co-founders. Bootlegging a character design based on a real person is crazy.
i’m a linguistics major, i’ve been taking chinese for 5 years, I have experience in korean too, here’s my input on why asian languages are usually the most difficult to learn: languages that are different from your native language are going to be way more difficult. that’s just how it is. but u also have to take grammar/visual writing into account, ESPECIALLY grammar because most people will prioritize speaking over writing and reading. for me, korean was the easiest to get started with. they have an alphabetic writing system like english. BUT. the grammar is so different to english that it genuinely has been too difficult for me to learn. chinese has a crazy writing system that only becomes intuitive after multiple years of practice, but their grammar is similar to english. it’s a simplified version of english grammar and is easier to understand than english imo. I hardly need to write or read much in chinese anyways, so I rely on speaking and listening. that’s good for me because then I only need to learn which words I need to plug into the english grammar format and i’m good! no one believes me when I say chinese is easier (at least for me) to learn how to speak than languages like german, with grammar that is different to english (I have also taken german classes and I struggled so much more than with chinese). so yeah. that’s my input on it all. great video once again!
As a native german speaker i can understand why you would struggle with german though i can't say if its harder or easier than german. Personaly, chinese looks a lot harder 😅
@@spazmcat3853 German was really easy for me to learn when I was learning it. I definately think they're crazy for saying Chinese is easier lol but to each their own. I took Chinese for a week in school and switched to French because the Chinese teacher accused me of killing the pandas and kept yelling at me for not pronouncing the vowels properly. In any case, German was probably the easiest, the only struggle I had which made me stop committing to it was the conjugates especially for pronouns. But if I stuck to it, I probably wouldn't have struggled for long. With Chinese, you have to learn a whole new alphabet system in writing alone. It's not alphabets the way English and French and German use it's characters, and each "phrase" means something different.
@@MichaelaHicksme personally, the chinese writing system wasn’t that hard to learn but…I also can’t speak the language now. and it’s my parents native tongue. And now I’m a B1 in German. so…yeah german is definitely easier
What is your native language? German being harder to learn than Chinese is surprising to me since I try to learn both. I had German at school and it's similar to my language so of course for me it's easier.

Whenever Jojo came in he was there to test you on how well you remembered recipes. Each customer's order was a menu item with a name (ie. Tony's first order was called the breakfast burger) and Jojo basically was asking you to guess the unspecified toppings of a certain burger type And unlike the actual papas games, the tickets had the names of a specific recipe name instead of a ticket number

The lore being told to us in a different language didn’t make the plot any more confusing. It’s always some really complicated stuff that gets these employees to work
As a language enthusiast, here is what I would say distinguishes the three main East Asian languages of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese: Korean's script contains circles, in the form of ㅇ which is either silent or makes a "ng" sound. It also has that distinction of bearing spaces in between words (heard that part of the video while typing this). Japanese Kana looks curvy compared to the others (e.g. や,ま,さ,ら). Moreover, Japanese, alongside the TWO curvy writing systems of Katakana and Hiragana, has a writing system known as "Kanji" that is composed of Chinese characters. So, in full, written Japanese is a mixture of curvy symbols and complex logographs. Written Chinese (or Hanzi), compared to the other two, looks and is extremely complex. Chinese characters are what are known as logographs, which look like pictures relating to the word and its overall context. That is all I have to say about it to be honest hahah. (E.g. 你,我,霍,轡) If anyone more experienced in these languages were to have info they would like to add or corrections to make to my assessment, please let me know! Edit 1: Korean does in fact have a Chinese-based writing system known as Hanja but, to my knowledge, it is a bit rare and only used in certain contexts like names as well as archaic texts and works of literature. On the other hand, Japanese Kanji is used very commonly and is something a beginner will encounter really quickly in their learning journey! Edit 2: A quick search revealed that an everyday place where Hanja can be seen is actually in newspaper headlines. Edit 3: This is really just a fun fact, that being that these three languages are not related and actually belong to separate language families. Chinese (in particular Mandarin) is in the Sino-Tibetan language family while the two others are known as language isolates, meaning that they have no other (living) relatives! Japanese and Korean therefore belong to the aptly named Japonic and Koreanic language families respectively. There are theories out there like the Altaic Language Family that claim that Japanese and Korean are related; but, the theory has lost quite a bit of traction in recent years.
Thank you! That was very informative! As far as I'm aware Hangul was actually created almost solely by one King back then so it makes sense that it has no language relatives and takes some inspiration from Chinese which can nowadays mostly be found in archaic texts.

The letters don't look anything like English." - poof, august 7, 2024 Me: _laughs in pinoy american since tagalog is my second language after english_ oh poof, thank you for making me laugh about Asian languages. Also, that was truly one of the Whitest things poof said because he's a white American.
The best way to tell if it’s Japanese or chinese is that Japanese always has a tiny bit of English inexplicably inserted into some of the menus and signs

as a japanese person i love that he describes chinese kanji / language as complex symbols and the way he described the kanji parts was the icing on the cake for me 😭
Korean is actually one of the easiest languages at all to acquire basic reading ability in because of its extraordinarily simple script and rules for its arrangement/pronunciation/etc. If I remember correctly the script was designed specifically with the goal of making literacy as easy as possible to achieve
This is much weirder than I was expecting.. I saw this in the discord server and thought it was jusr a really weird Chinese ripoff, but it's a slightly different game where you have to buy ingredients, customers talk to you, everything is 4x faster and you have to rent your stuff... Would be really funny to see more of these chinese games if they exist
They call the burger patty Meat pie 💀 Also when you denied to whach an ad, they say "Do you have the heart to give up my order? I may no longer be in your customer guide" And the two options are "No no no, You misunderstood" and "Confirm to give up" Update: The restaurant is called Dad's Burgers and the game
I ran the game's title screen, the character selection screen and opening cutscene in Google Translate's camera mode and here's what it said: The title translates to "Papa's Burgers; Papa, One More!" Marty is called "Matti," though Rita stays the same. Opening cutscene script: Papa Louie: "A ten-year-old store can't close down like this!!!" "Matti": "Hi, Papa." "Matti": "Let me try, I can make the burger shop business booming!" Papa Louie: "I will return......" (So yeah, nothing too crazy. I would look more into this game, but this comment would be as long as Harry Potter fanfiction. (They have a lot of words.))
Seems to be a combination of Papa's Burgeria and a game called "Good Pizza Great Pizza" where the UI is that you lose money for every ingredient you put and customers ordering ingredients that does not exist in the store
There has never been a UA-camr that I haven’t been burnt out of sooner or later, but for whatever reason poof is the one I could listen to for hours entertained. It’s hit a point I’m sad when he doesn’t upload on a day because it’s such a nice way to finish a day
What you said about learning Asian languages being difficult is actually not true, at least in the case of Japanese! Learning the hiragana and katakana alphabets was simple using lots of mnemonic devices to help me remember which symbols correlated to what sound. (Best example is that the hiragana character ‘き’, pronounced ‘ki’, looks like a *key* if you squint. There’s lots of other ones I used but they’re more of a stretch. Thanks autism) And once I started actually learning how to speak it I realized that the Japanese word order often makes a lot more sense than the (American) English word order I use natively. Unfortunately I’m still not comfortable actually Speaking the language out loud OR listening to someone speak it and being able to understand or respond properly, mostly bc I have an audio processing disorder that makes it difficult enough for me to understand my OWN language when it’s spoken to me let alone a completely new one 😭😭😭

Woah how long did this take
Hi daddy💀💀💀
Chinese is definitely one of the harder Asian languages to learn. Korean took me 10 minutes to be able to start reading the bare minimum.
@@economicslevel1 chinese has the easiest grammer, hardest to read
I'm currently learning Japanese, I don't know how much harder Chinese is in comparison.
@@AmberCommentsThings I personally think chinese is harder because of tones. If you say something wrong with the wrong tone, its a different word.
some Japanese words are just English spelled out using Japanese alphabets, Chinese only uses characters each representing different things therefore its difficulty
It’s actually impressive that he has every Papa’s character’s name memorized 😂

Like they are isolated from the majority of other languages when Chinese was invented
i’m a linguistics major, i’ve been taking chinese for 5 years, I have experience in korean too, here’s my input on why asian languages are usually the most difficult to learn:
languages that are different from your native language are going to be way more difficult. that’s just how it is. but u also have to take grammar/visual writing into account, ESPECIALLY grammar because most people will prioritize speaking over writing and reading.
for me, korean was the easiest to get started with. they have an alphabetic writing system like english. BUT. the grammar is so different to english that it genuinely has been too difficult for me to learn.
chinese has a crazy writing system that only becomes intuitive after multiple years of practice, but their grammar is similar to english. it’s a simplified version of english grammar and is easier to understand than english imo.
Bros probably blocked on the Chinese firewall.

As a language enthusiast, here is what I would say distinguishes the three main East Asian languages of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese:
Korean's script contains circles, in the form of ㅇ which is either silent or makes a "ng" sound.
(E.g. 你,我,霍,轡)
If anyone more experienced in these languages were to have info they would like to add or corrections to make to my assessment, please let me know!
As far as I'm aware Hangul was actually created almost solely by one King back then so it makes sense that it has no language relatives and takes some inspiration from Chinese which can nowadays mostly be found in archaic texts.
thats pretty cool man

But knowing which particles to use in sentences can be pretty tricky, in my opinion. And, also, learning kanji. That too lol
