Honestly, as someone who didn't come into the game from SRB2K, it left me a different impression. Didn't come to the game since it's the sequel to my favorite pick up and play experience with tons of mods, I came cause I wanted that mario kart looking thing that looks crazy af. In that way, the high learning curve and multitude of mechanics has been a plus, heh. Took me a good bit for it to all simmer in, but that's was what I wanted. And when it melts into your brain, oh, it becomes brilliant. At least until you hit a tambourine that you literally had no excuse to not avoid and get launched into the sunset lol. idk how I'm ever gonna go back to mario kart or try out SRB2K after this... i am now no longer casual when it comes to kart racers help. btw love the jester thing in the thumbnail/your profile, they look nice.
My opinion on the game has completely changed, I play it daily now, and honestly, I wont be going back to SRB2K. it was a first impressions video, so it was just how I felt like an hour in. It was just how I felt when it first launched. my view has shifted. the game is peak flawed at points but peak. Also thanks for the compliments regarding my persona. I used the sonic one in the video since it fit the theme but I'll use more of the main one in future videos!
The tutorial isn't exactly mandatory. Spam buttons before robotnik speaks for the 1st time while rebooting metal, for the game to maybe bring up the password screen, then use password "gaster" to skip tutorial. Or, at the tutorial itself, go backwards to attempt a super hard race that will let you bypass the normal tutorial. I really didn't like that being the way to skip it, but this is just how it is for now...
I didn’t know that! Thanks for the tip /gen Though this video is kinda outdated?? Though it is my feelings at launch. With the latest update it fixed a lot of my complaints.
@@evdestroy5304 honestly didn’t know about the cpu race till late yesterday. As for the cheat code. I was unaware of that as I downloaded a 100% save. I also like to dig in the files so I honestly wouldn’t have minded.
Modding support is already in since launch, the documentation is just not up. But you would have to dig into the code to see what changed, thankfully it isn't much. So most modders (like me) managed to port their mods from SRB2K in a couple of days.
I feel like its a great game, but if you're looking for a sequel to srbk you are going to disappointed Granted, i could also never get into the first one. It was too mario kart, and the entire time I was just wondering why i wasnt playing Mario kart instead
Honestly I played it cause it was like Mario kart, and it was able to be modded easily with free online. I didn’t have to get my friends to buy a 60 dollar game. With a 70 dollar online service. After playing ring racers for several hours and getting my hands on the patch update. Besides the learning curve it’s a blast with friends. Though the physics make me wanna scream sometimes.
www.kartkrew.org/ Just a head up this video is a FIRST IMPRESSIONS VIDEO. So there was barely any knowledge of the game at the time, so explaining things to me isn’t needed I have several hours in the game now and I adore said game, At the time when recording, writing, and editing. There wasn’t much on it, which is why I went in not knowing anything.
i like the game but i can definitely understand why many people are put off by it. biggest offender is the tutorial being as long as it is. The tutorial is being told to the players like theres some story mode to go with the game. they couldve just gotten straight to the point with the new stuff no one would know about yet and then get right to it. the next offender was how EVERYTHING was locked behind progression. Tracks and Characters make sense but colors and online mode? Yikes, to get the rights to play online you have to either skip the long ass tutorial by beating cpus in a race (ai used to be much harder) OR being forced to stick with the tutorial and THEN play grand prix and place 3rd or better in the ring cup. As a game its nice but they took a casual friendly genre (kart racing) and made it not casual lol.
Honestly I agree it really did make it not casual. But after playing the game for hours at a time and learning how to make mods for it. I prefer it over Srb2K
You can skip the tutorial... by turning back at the beginning. But skipping the tutorial and then choose to not engage and then say its hard is a bit wierd, but in reality its true that most of the mechanics are situational. Did you know you can actually move before the start of the race? you don't need to spindash at the beginning, further more, you can just get the Boost bonus by just being the first to touch the starting line after "GO!". Spindash is mostly used for when you run out of rings and can't go trough an incline. which is VERY rare.
I recorded the footage at different times. I was still learning about it while recording. Whoops- ig there’s a first time for everything. This is my first video after all.
@@gab2022-bichosbichos any videos that were originally on this channel were privated. Mainly due to something that happened my main channel. So I repurposed this channel. I hope that answers your question better :)
Respectfully disagree. I really hate this narrative around the game of "it's hard/chaotic so that means it's bad." Watching your footage on the spindash made me realize that, and I genuinely mean this with no offense, you hadn't properly learned how to use it yet. Your timing was all wrong on using it to start a race, and it made you explode as a penalty for overcharging so you can't just get a full charge and let it go whenever. You're supposed to time it. I understand if you miss the feeling of Robo Kart, but this is a different game trying new things, Robo Kart is still an option to play. There's not many technical skill based kart racers out there, so I'm glad they forked out and tried something new. However, if you're curious, don't let any of this discourage you. It's like a fighting game, you'll need to practice and learn but once you do it's pretty fun.
All my opinions on the game have completely changed since. This video was a "First impression" which I feel a lot of people forget. the issue with the spindash which I abuse constantly now ingame was that I was stupid and kept thinking it was the reverse button. As I've stated in prior comments, I prefer this game over Kart and will be playing it over Kart going forward.
Games really good at making you feel like the best racer who ever lived, then smacking you upside the head and sending you to 8th. You really gotta fight to keep first.
If all you do is compare it to SRB2K, or if you wanted DRRR to be similar to SRB2K, then this isnt th game for you. DRRR is a completely new experience. As for the mechanics feeling bloated, thats really not true. There ARE a lot of mechanics, but they are all simple, but mandatory for playing well and getting the full experience. For example, the spindash. In the gameplay, they kept using it WAY too early. (Before the actual race started) That's them just being impatient. (and or a skill issue) Also, the spindash is really good to use right after being hit, if you go into the negatives, as the speed and charge times are lowered. The spondash is also useful for getting out of offroad. I really don't see why so many are hating on this game. It is my favorite kart racer, even above Mario Kart.
Honestly. After playing it for a longer time. I adore the game. I prefer it over kart. It’s just overwhelming seeing everything at first, that’s why it’s first impressions. It’s how I felt 1 hour after playing the game. It feels like a learning curve a big learning curve. Which once passed, outclasses the original. I think comparing it to the prior game is reasonable as it is the direct sequel and made by the prior dev team. I do agree the game gets too much hate currently but that’s already starting to shift. I hope this comment explains my perspective a bit more than the video. 😊
It's sad to see people write off the game or immediately want to change it because it's not Mario Kart. The amount of option selects in this game always you to have a lot of expression. The whole starting line thing is brilliant from a party game standpoint like using mind games to bump players who want to spin dash too early close to the finish line to give them a penalty. I described this game as Smash Bros-ifying a kart racer, expressive slapstick physics with gameplay with a low floor and high skill ceiling. Also complaining about progression in a free game is funny to me. I'm impressed that it's as structured as it is, a well incentivized reward systems in fine when just playing the game is fun (for me). I would gladly pay money for this!

This game is good a sequel but can be better. Also the spin dash in the start is good if you had patience and learn the timing.
The timing for me isn’t the issue, it’s more a skill issue on my part as I keep thinking the spindash button is the backup button cause of SRB2.
It’s a good sequel, just flawed.
