As a public school special education teacher, thank you for putting it in a good light, as usually I only hear bad things from online platforms and I do think there should be fewer kids in the classes but we make it work and try to create a fun an educational environment for the kiddos.

Exposing him to the unexpected is actually a good thing, He didn't expect to just visit the school instead of his normal school routine and had to cope with it. Unexpected things happen in life, Situations like that help him learn to cope.

I just have to say that I am very thankful for my son's public school he is a level-three autistic and before he went to preschool there he could only say like almost three words and now the kid doesn't stop talkin he does a lot of parrot talking but we're working on that but he loves going he's a celebrity there and I just hope that it continues for a very long time I don't want to have to move him because he gets bullied etc and I'm so glad that they are working with your son on his scheduling that's wonderful and I think my son school will do the same for us

That's so great he's doing so well; sounds like a perfect balance. I would definitely consider keeping him in his current grade another year. It will only help him.
Our autistic daughter is seven: she is in a Montessori school which can be great for kids who don't need a rigid routine. She has her own educational assistant with her all day as well.
When the time comes for her to move up to a grade four level, we may or may not keep her in her current class another year. Only time will tell; her classmates love her!!!! We are so so lucky her school is fantastic.
Also putting our kids in a public school setting, they then can learn and model behaviours of children their own age. That is also important to us. The students actually encourage her to talk. She is understanding what and what not to do in a class:
She has many body breaks as well.
    All the best to you!

i thought i'd NEVER put my daughter in middle school... but they've actually been very very open to my ideas and suggestions. my daughters loves being social and doing the adapted pe and art and music... all adapted plus she gets an adapted day... she goes in late and comes home a tiny bit early. shes allowed so many things and they've worked hard at getting sensory equipment for her. she also likes interacting with her peers. i dont let her go on all of the overnight field trips etc. but i'm fairly happy with how hard they've worked to really develop a specialized plan for her.

my daughter is also severely autistic. Kaidale talks more than she does and is very much more athletic, etc. also at a public school they receive PT OT speech... ADPE ... anything they need. I hope you tour a few places and see what you think!

I have homeschooled my 10yr old son for 4 years now and I am in a point in my life where I am also wanting to put him in public school for a couple of days a week but I definitely don’t want to do middle school either when we get to that point. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Yea the thought of public middle school/high school sounds really unsettling to me. Elementary age is still sheltered and innocent enough that I feel public school is fine. But if you can find the right fit, there is much benefit to gain from a structured program with peers. Hope you find the right fit💕

Perhaps kaidale could wear a little high vis vest while he riding just to make him more visible to traffic etc. I notice he just rides across driveways and streets and is ahead of you and may not recognise the dangers and to stop etc or cars may think he will stop

What do you think about putting him in a skills based school system instead of a traditional education based system? There are businesses that only enjoy disabled people. I think one sells donuts or something so you might be able to find it. There's nothing wrong with my son and if he's not ready for concurrent enrollment in college by 10th grade, we homeschool and he's already 2 years ahead so it's not unreasonable, he's going to trade school so that when he graduates, he graduates employable. Or he graduates with an associate degree and a full ride for the rest of it. I think trade schools are underrated. He may never live independently but if he could hone the skills, emotional and practical, to hold down a basic job he could have his own money and live in a group home. Just something to think about.

be careful about leaving things in the back of the van, in an accident they become projectiles and can hurt or kill you.

Repeating 6th grade would be a good idea if they would allow it. Especially since the routine is working out for him. I understand your concern about middle school. Would he be mainstreamed with regular classroom or is the a special needs class with other special needs students. That’s what we have in Texas. The students are self contained all together. Some may go out to the regular classroom for part of the day depending on their IEP.

That is what I would do ask the school to have him repeat a year because you think he needs it.
Also, I agree he needs to be around other kids, but with that said, you are a very smart, caring, loving mom, you will figure it out.

Working at the High school level life skill classroom. I would suggest not staying back and doing more years at high school until age out as that will help prepare for future. If repeat too many years younger could age out before ready to graduate from high school. Also friends keep moving on and those relationships could move on to high school and he still be in middle school or elementary school.

The hybrid homeschooling sounds like a nice fit for him. Does he only work on academic subjects with you? It seems like in the recent video he's not verbally talking much. Are you concerned he's not making much progress, or you don't expect it. Why would junior high be so bad at public school if they have the same type of program where he'd be in a small class with kids on the spectrum? Or they don't have that for junior high. Is kaidale making any friends at school?

I'm glad Kaidale is doing so well at school and it gives you time to work, as well. I second Kaidale repeating 6th grade. It sounds like he's getting a lot of benefit from it. Also, from what I've learned (from the Maas family), if Kaidale goes to public school for 1 year, he would be eligible for the McKay scholarship. That would help you be able to send him to JSA for the middle school years, or as long as you want to.

    • @Kaitlin_and_Kaidale
      @Kaitlin_and_Kaidale  Рік тому +1

Yes I’m really hoping it will get approved for him to repeat 6th grade. That will give him another year of consistency and me to plan out our next move💕 the McKay scholarship will be a must if we decide to go back to the private route.

@@Kaitlin_and_Kaidale Also, I'm glad you got the public school you did. It seems like a good fit for Kaidale. Florida doesn't have the best reputation, as far as public schools go. A friend of mine, from the Chicago area, taught HS math near Lakeland, FL for several years, and a lot of the students really struggled.

No all inclusive groups that do out door or playground meetups
If you go to a playground that has equipment for kids of all abilities may make connections. Look for a miracle league in your area
