i miss alot about phones from these days. what i dont miss, is how often you had to get a new one, because the old was obsolete and how they kept some things back or on a short leashe in order to sell you a new one a year later and keep an update path, rather then reach the end of road as early as possible. for example, sms storage space. were talking about160 bytes of space. yet they decided to make it so that you can only store 20 messages, and brought a new version which can store 50 a year later while it wouldnt have taken much effort or cost, to go from 10 messages space, to 200 in one generation. phones became a boring unified blob after 2010
This is a great nostalgic series. Really looking forward to the upcoming episodes. How about a Nokia 8600 Luna for a future episode. It was a phone which I loved. Looked so classy with the smoked glass.
I had a samsung phone in... must've been 2005, could have been 2004. I remember it had a specific target audience for people who wanted to stay social. I can't reemember much about it, but it had a semi decent camera for the time, I think they had two different models and both of them were relatively small form factor. I can't even find it when I look online at all, I'm in the UK and not sure if it was something made specifically for us!

I didn’t buy this phone but I got the Samsung a970 back in the day. Screen flipped and twisted and was advertised with one of the sequels. My favorite Samsung phone was the a900 though. Thing was solid.
Easy. Because it was a PR toy with zero appeal or cool-factor at the time it was semi-released in some very limited markets. Nothing to do with Matrix ether.
Your right MrMobile, phones were more fun back in the day. I love the flip phone era. That why when Samsung Galaxy Z flip came out, I had to get one. It fun to end a call by flipping the screen down.
I had and still possess a (working) Nokia 6600, which I kindly nicknamed “soapphone”. It have a 1,2MP camera, Bluetooth, infrared and WAP internet access.
Would love to see a overview of all the "other" Razr models. There were like, 3 others besides the famous one, not counting the new foldable touch reboot.
I still have this phone in the tin. However, I have one of the models used in the movies, complete with the banged-upness that comes with dropping a movie prop from time to time. I can confirm it is a Sprint exclusive, and can no longer be activated. I bought into the Matrix and owned several things from it. Have sold many of them over the years, but I haven't had a good price offer for the phone yet. Sadly, the one that Keanu Reeves used was out of my price range for the time, but I did get Carrie-Anne Moss's.

I still have a nokia laying around; the cover was entirely transparent and detachable, so you could put your own design under it. Just cut out any print/drawing on paper in the shape to match the cover and put it under the cover before snapping it back on. I used pink paper with flower print for mine. I had to connect the phone to my computer to put images and ringtones on it. It has no games or functions that require internet. I worked in customer service for a major wireless carrier, and at one point, we all trained to operate the Palm Pre. Outstanding phone for the time. It's a shame it didn't catch on, however, I can understand why, due to its shortcomings.
I loved the days where everyone had a different phone worth your attention because features would varry so much from one another. I always was excited to hold someone else's phone to dig around what it could do compare to mine. Now it's all the same and it sucks
I have fond memories of my HTC cingular 8525. It was a bit over kill with a full qwerty button keyboard and a touch screen. I also have really fond memories of my Palm Treo 650. I thought the UI was incredibly underrated and at the time was so user friendly and easy to navigate. I wonder how much I would struggle to use it now. I think I had it in 2004.

Love this, I was thinking about how fun old phone design used to be about a month back and spent a lot of time looking at old phones that I used to own or want. Born in 98 so I missed out on the early days, but was always really interested in phones from when I was around 9 and on.
Yoooo did someone clone me? 😂😂 I'm a 98 baby too and obsessed with Nokia phones from their 'golden age' of 2004-2010
7:16 was totally expecting you to shout TRINITY! into the voice dial
Dude! When phones were fun is an awesome series! I hope you plan to do many, many more.
4:10 That's exactly how he would've giggled if he had got that phone as a kid! 😂
Just stumbled upon this video and I am happy I did. Cool video keep up the good work.
I loved that laugh
He he he he !!😂😂🤣
Me too man, that laugh earned him my like. Don't get me wrong I love his videos and always watched his video consistenly. But I was never a person who gives like to videos easily.
Wow, I just want this phone now. It's a damn shame that it can't be functional. I'd almost love to see it revived for the sake of the future release of The Matrix 4.
Qtek 9000 ... I lugged that around for quite a while as it was great for many things, e.g. SSHing into remote servers, checking a web page, car navigation, etc.
Also fun: SonyEricsson P800, P900, P910i ... I even coded a few apps for those.
It looks more like an 'electric shocker' when closed
Were you trying to say taser?!
I feel like that's what you're trying to describe there.
@@JohnDoe-yf9wk I'm pretty sure he's talking about a stun gun. images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81Y2FSeDPBL._AC_SL1500_.jpg It would have been awesome if it doubled as a stun gun; could have added to the plot! Major missed opportunity Samsung!
I think we can all figure out why you had the cat face set as your "friend Courtney" lmaooo
The Motorola Startac was the best phone design to date. The nokia 5310 follows as the slimest, coolest design with a sound quality rivaling the ipod while fitting in the small pocket of your jeans! As a mention, the Nokia N95 was the one to want.
I was 23 when that phone came out.... my gosh I'm getting old!
Being in your 40s is not old 😌
Ok boomer!
I already mentioned this in the live chat, but kudos to Future for that thumbnail! Gotta love it when y'all don't hold back on the nostalgia nerd factor on them.
An absolute gem, it brings back so many memories, I love it

Last time I was this early that I forgot what happened this early
I always wanted the Matrix phone, had no idea it was a real thing I always thought it was just a prop.
Looks like a great phone, would have loved owning one when the Matrix released.
"Watch from the sidelines" that my descriptions when watching Mr. Mobile review a $ 1000 phone I can't afford. 😅 Nevertheless still fun to watch
If it makes you feel any better; you're not missing out on much. The tangible differences between cheaper phones and more expensive phones aren't really as great anymore. Even for phones like foldables, although they do have more going for them.
i miss alot about phones from these days. what i dont miss, is how often you had to get a new one, because the old was obsolete and how they kept some things back or on a short leashe in order to sell you a new one a year later and keep an update path, rather then reach the end of road as early as possible. for example, sms storage space. were talking about160 bytes of space. yet they decided to make it so that you can only store 20 messages, and brought a new version which can store 50 a year later while it wouldnt have taken much effort or cost, to go from 10 messages space, to 200 in one generation. phones became a boring unified blob after 2010
As a agent of the system, I have to ask... Where did you get this sunglasses? I want answers, Mr. Anderson.
This is a great nostalgic series. Really looking forward to the upcoming episodes.
How about a Nokia 8600 Luna for a future episode. It was a phone which I loved. Looked so classy with the smoked glass.
Ericsson R310 "Shark Phone" was my first phone. It's as tough as advertised and I loved that thing. Too bad the rubber parts didn't last.
Yeah, the “collectors” price point, was the thing that cut me off. Like they say in the matrix moves: “Some things never change..” Isn’t it Samsung?
4:28 and now I'm watching this review while I'm supposed to be studying
It goes full circle
I had a samsung phone in... must've been 2005, could have been 2004. I remember it had a specific target audience for people who wanted to stay social. I can't reemember much about it, but it had a semi decent camera for the time, I think they had two different models and both of them were relatively small form factor. I can't even find it when I look online at all, I'm in the UK and not sure if it was something made specifically for us!
While everyone in high school was showing off their new slim Motorola razor flip phones i always wanted one of these!
tbh, the razr was pretty nice. wanted it back then and if it would actually be able to connect nowadays, I'd get one even in 2020
The sony ericson p800 was the first fullscreen smart"ish", palm"ish", with apps, dual store, even 3d race and fps games, also with the blue cover and flat pointer was sooo cool, so hacker toy, please take a look!!!
I miss sony ericsons one of those was my fav phone I used it until it died on me after about 5 years from 2007 to 2011ish they were good and unique looking phones pretty much the last breed before smartphones took over
I didn’t buy this phone but I got the Samsung a970 back in the day. Screen flipped and twisted and was advertised with one of the sequels. My favorite Samsung phone was the a900 though. Thing was solid.
It’s like this series was made for me. Kid me would be so excited I wanted all these phones
What's crazy is how I remember the nokia phone from the original but don't remember this phone at all.
Easy. Because it was a PR toy with zero appeal or cool-factor at the time it was semi-released in some very limited markets. Nothing to do with Matrix ether.
Please do the Nokia n900 phone. Best phone I ever ever owned.
you sound so much like LGR when you narrate.
Omg yes
MrMobile is a mix of LGR and Steve Buscemi
Their cadence is very similar!
yES
Don't remove my kneecaps, please, but who is LGR?
Would love to see:
Motorola Startac ( cool clamshell design) Motorola A780 - great phone
Your right MrMobile, phones were more fun back in the day. I love the flip phone era. That why when Samsung Galaxy Z flip came out, I had to get one. It fun to end a call by flipping the screen down.
I had and still possess a (working) Nokia 6600, which I kindly nicknamed “soapphone”. It have a 1,2MP camera, Bluetooth, infrared and WAP internet access.
There’s a Wireless Access Point?
Would love to see a overview of all the "other" Razr models. There were like, 3 others besides the famous one, not counting the new foldable touch reboot.
I had a Pebl and to this day it is the best looking phone I've ever had. And it fit in my hand so perfectly.
I bought an 8110 after seeing the film :) Great memories, thinking I was cool clicking it open...
Episode One: When Phones Were Fun
Episode Two: When Phones Were New
Episode Three: When Phones Were Ne(at)
Episode Four: When Phones Weren't a Bore
Episode Five: When Phones Were Alive
I see what you did there, clever!
My only suggestions to review would be the Xperia Play (you probably already have done that one) or the Sony Ericsson W600... I remember my buddy got a W600 in the last year of highschool and I was so jealous...
I always wanted the Matrix phone. That thing looks so cool.
"You've been living in a dream world, Neo."
Siemens SL45 - first phone with MP3 player.. Full of flaws, falling apart after a time, expensive, but... it worked!
YESSS!!! Man I wanted one of these when they came out. Verizon only as I remember. I was AT&T. Anyway, can't wait for this review! 👍🏼
Sprint exclusive, actually!
Oh damn, wasn't expecting this. I mean I know they had some deals with companies for wallpapers and the ability to watch the film on the phone but wow I didn't know this existed
How long did it take to watch the movie on the phone? 2 days?
What a great new concept for a web series. I am going to enjoy this. I used to be a Nokia Kid (3210, 3310, 7110 and 5210) before I moved to then Sony-Ericsson (T68i, Z600, Z800 and CyberShot K200). I'll also mark that I have owned a Phillips TCD308 and a Savvy.
I remember doing so much research about this phone. I was getting my first phone and I wanted it to be this one SO bad. I never wound up getting it because it was so limited and expensive plus I had Verizon and I think it didn't work with them. I settled on a Kyocera SE47 which just wasn't as awesome as the matrix phone
I think the "Chocolate" series needs a real good look.
I used the chocolate for years and it was indestructible. The only thing that died was the battery and even the extended battery lasted a loooong time
@@angelvaldepena3822 Unless you used it for its main advertised purpose, music! I remember a lot of kids in my high school had LG Chocolates (what a funny thing to type lol) and they all carried around iPod nanos for listening to music. I thought having a phone and mp3 player in one was so cool, so I asked them why and they all gave the same answer: playing music killed the battery.
htc shadow
I had a LG Chocolate for a few months, that touch wheel on mine was a PITA, and it needed recharging often
Although it’s much lighter and plastic than any nowaday phone, it feels better in the hand.
Never knew I needed this. Amazing new series. Looking forward to the next episode.
Suggestion: would love to see LG Chocolate, the first 21:9 phone and HP Palm Pre, the first conductive charging and gesture interface :D
The original Palm Pre was amazing. Underappreciated and ahead of its time.
@@evankrosney6759 It got pretty rave reviews at the time at least though.
@@tams805 yeah, it was super well received. Plagued by shitty build quality and a train wreck of a marketing campaign, though.
I worked in customer service for a major wireless carrier, and at one point, we all trained to operate the Palm Pre. Outstanding phone for the time.
It's a shame it didn't catch on, however, I can understand why, due to its shortcomings.
6:57 "stay mobile", nice touch
I'm really digging this channel. I'm 41 and I swear every video hits home for me....
You have Richard Hammond's eyes and Robert Downy Jr's mouth.
No, this isn't a pickup, just an observation.
I was thinking Tim Curry eyes
LOL for sure gotta an off-RDJ vibe but the Hammond addition is gold XD
There's something really sexy about him, isn't there?
Dude, you have a perfect Voice Over voice...just sayin'.
"...back in the days, when phones where fun", love that closure statement...your vids about vintage phones are amazing.
Can it get WAP sites? I need my Bounce rush.
Michael Fisher Phone
Stay fishy my friends 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nokia 6822, super cool and unique
i don't know why i laughed so hard at this comment 😂
I loved the days where everyone had a different phone worth your attention because features would varry so much from one another.
I always was excited to hold someone else's phone to dig around what it could do compare to mine.
Now it's all the same and it sucks
OMG!!! It's like I'm in the Matrix!
I wanted that phone. I wanted to dress up as Ghost from Enter The Matrix and run around town looking like him.
Bruh. Cover the OG Stark tech, the LG 9400. My all time fav “flip” phone.
