In my journey towards minimalism, I bought a Ridge early on. Essentially a small metal box, I was unimpressed. With only a couple cards, it was larger than I needed and wouldn't stop rattling. With a few cards too many, it simply couldn't do it. Inherent in any container type wallet, is a strict range of contents. With few contents, wasted space and something larger in the pocket than needed. With too much contents, not even an option. It's a smooth looking affair, though, and my friends like theirs. My leather and fabric wallets feel smooth and soft, bending as needed in the pocket and barely noticeable. The Ridge always felt like I had something in my front pocket, and living up to its moniker, I felt the ridges when seated. Against the smooth lines of thin summer slacks, the silhouette is immediately visible. In comparison, my card cases could be barely seen. In the end, I had laid good money down for the Ridge. Having researched the Ridge, I was emotionally invested by the time I added it to the cart and paid. I wanted to believe I had made a really good choice. Who was I kidding? I realized I could never love this one and sent it back a week later. Pondering why my all wallets had mountainous names like Ascent, Summit, and Ridge, I felt like I was back at base camp again. My personal journey for the perfect wallet had just begun. At this point, I've got a rather large collection that continues to grow and makes me think, maybe I'm just not a one-wallet guy.
If you care about what you carry, then you're never a one wallet guy! 😀. Your experience with the Ridge is common from my experience and talking with many people.
@@gvsly2008 Hi Ed. Actually, I'm really loving my Bellroy Slim Sleeve. Soft, supple, and barely there. My favorite, really. I'm also fond of a LV Pocket Organizer my wife bought me. Sentimental touch. Nice texture but a little larger than the Bellroy but same concept. Have you tried any foldable card holders yet?
I feel you, Glenn! in the end, the Ridge is nothing special, really IMO. It's a bunch of marketing, and there are far better and more clever designs out there...
If there is one thing I love about ridge wallet.
That is their marketing.
It support smaller youtube channels. But its also sketchy enough that I had to check for reviews.
And if it were not for ridge wallet. I would never have found out about walletopia who introduced me to the wonderful world of wallets.
Moral of that story? Well after binging through most of walletopias videos i ended up buying a Singular Leather wallet for myself.
If its one thing ridge wallet holds true to its commercials and that it did indeed change my view on wallets forever! Lol
If you add both a money clip and money band, it allows for a greater carrying capacity and easy access. I put cards or extra cash, temporarily in the money band and/or money clip all the time as an easy access pocket. It’s great. It makes me feel smart and innovative.
Great idea, I never thought to add both to the wallet to increase capacity!
Has anyone used blue loctite on their ridge wallet and have problems? The bottle says do bot use on plastic so I’m just wondering if i get to get a different loctite.
I was thinking about buying one of these but this review has successfully put me off! Needs locktite to stop it coming apart, expensive, and the cards spew everywhere when used correctly!
When i saw that the cash holder is outside, i immediately thought wont it get snagged when i put it inside my packet? Ekster is better for me, i think.
Doesn’t look practical and easy to use. Looks good though. Ridge does a decent job of marking but I’ll pass. Thanks for the review.
3:16 i can see it already 🤣🤣
I Squeeze and all my cards go out flying 😂🤣😂🤣😂
This is more fore people who use cards. I don't, im old school. I prefer to carry cash 💰 and only pay with cash.
That happened to me in real life when I did the carry test on this wallet, at a car rental counter.
Do you recommend the cash clip or band?
*QUESTION*
So I love the aesthetics of the ridge, but would rather go with the aviator for price and fanning aspect. Any other contenders? I like the bvax for a minimalist one, but wanted something that looked a little nicer. For reference: this is for a present... my bf literally has like 3 cards and carries a little cash.
If you've looked at the bvax, then look at the TROVE or FOCX wallets. Of these, I'm a fan of the TROVE wallets. Between the Ridge and Aviator, there are a ton of knockoffs, I wish the PocketPro was still selling, but they're on hold until a nuisance design lawsuit is settled. They're a great 3rd option.
Since the box is so good I'm gonna get it lol
I wanted to buy a Ridge, but the EU pricing is insane. The gun metal version costs $76 at the moment in the US, but €95 in the EU, which is about $104. So I got a €30 knockoff and am super happy with it.
I think that ridge ought to look into some kind of scratch resistance case to protect these wallets! Just my 2 cents!
Bought a comparable wallet for about $20 just over a month ago, Ridge is all hype
I'm amazed how many bad comments regarding the price!!! and more amazed because nobody said the same regarding the Dango or the Trayvax while they are almost similar in matter of materials/build qualities/prices... Guys, anyone of you did buy the Ridge so his comment is based on a true experience or is it just a matter of pure taste or tight budget??? I sincerely don't believe all the comments are genuine experience feedbacks... I personnaly bought the carbon fiber edition of the Ridge(after a long search and feedbacks checkings on the internet) and after receiving it I instantly felt the quality&luxury of the product! Even though I have been hesitating because of the price... I can feel its quality and enjoy it everytime I have it in my hands. Even though I don't use it on a daily basis. Come on! you won't be paying 100/115$ for an accessory you would use everyday but you would pay 300/400$ for a small insignificant item from Armani or Gucci... I'm sorry to say it like that but it's a reality for many of us. Last but not least : if you don't like the style of a minimalist wallet or it simply doesn't suit you (as I'm seeing many saying that they will forever stick to the traditional bifold leather wallet) it doesn't give you the right to argue that this wallet doesn't really deserve its price..! In its segment the Ridge is most probably the best made minimalist wallet all around along with the Aviator. Regards.
I absolutely love my Ridge. Along with my Bellroy Slim Sleeve, it's the best wallet I've ever owned.
No, ridge is simply overpriced garbage...How much did they pay you to write this?
@@bobdragon7887 I’m sorry! First off, respect me! Second, I’m not getting any penny from ANYONE! You owe me some excuses here! I paid this wallet like anyone else! If they did so, don’t you think I would go ahead and do, at least, a video review on it rather than just commenting on others videos??? If you don’t like the wallet it’s your choice, but don’t come up with such comments!
What about license, Other ID cards, info.
the screwdriver is to add extra accessories... you should not tighten the screws - just leave them as they come
The screwdriver included tells me, that the Ridge wallet company knows that those screws come loose over time and will need tightening. The screw driver included also is necessary to change out the elastic cash strap, money clip, and the elastic on the sides of the wallet as they become stretched out. According to a ridge wallet customer service rep, the elastic is only guaranteed for 1 year, and you can buy replacements via their website. They are basically admitting that the elastic will last 10-12 months, and then needs to be replaced, which is pretty much a joke. Hard pass for me!
Not sure if your still doing reviews on ridge wallets copycats but I found a copycat one that’s called MouZie wallet that’s $40 on Amazon was wondering if you heard of it and would do a comparison on it great video Walletopia
Wow, the Ridge knockoff prices are getting ridiculous! Goes to show how inexpensive this type of wallet is.
What similar wallet do you recommend? Thanks
Hi Timothy, are you looking for something exactly like the Ridge or similar but different? There MANY knock offs of the Ridge that are competent for a third of the price.
I was actually looking for something similar but maybe a little different. I kept coming across the digital side of the wallets and I definitely didn't want that. Especially with the way information is being stolen these days. But I did order the Burnt Titanium by Ridge. It will be here on Monday. But out of curiosity I'd still like to see some other choices. Thanks for responding!
The handling looks really difficult
The biggest problem with this wallet is that it can really only hold cards. What about change, receipts, pictures, etc? I don't want cash dangling on the outside of the wallet
Aren't RFID cards dead now? The chip replaced that.
EXACTLY! That's my issue with all the RFID threats being floated by wallet manufacturers. All bunk. I rant about it here: ua-cam.com/video/QL2HEgOFQxc/v-deo.html
@@walletopia Not really in Europe the new ID card and the Bank Cards have RFID. Or new car and home keys some times. My father work on such systems and they had antennas which read the cards in one to two meters distance it´s not just for paranoia. They are forbidden now because the high SAR value but you can build one. In Germany for example the most cards have the chip and RFID because mobile payment isn´t a big thing but contactless payment (32%). So dead in the U.S. don´t mean dead World Wide.
Something about that squeeze the bottom giving me anxiety that 1 day all my cards will fall out on the ground smh
I got the navy aluminum too it should arrive soon! Who carries 12 cards???
price on these Ridge wallets is ridiculous. I've seen wallets on Amazon as cheap as $15 bucks that look almost exactly like the ridge wallet.
Indeed. If you want to see an example of that watch this ua-cam.com/video/I21_B0goPkk/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/dQN7ROhePUY/v-deo.html
Typically you get what you pay for. Though in the case of the Ridge wallet I can't really stand behind that argument. I got my hands on one, loaded it up and didn't care for it, so I returned it. The trayvax contour is an example of a wallet that costs a lot, $199 in the case of the titanium i'm currently trying out, and I can tell you it's worth every penny.
@@robd7934 Yeah I can definitely understand that. That was true for me for most of my life. Certainly nobody needs a $200 wallet. Even their standard at $139 is going to deter most people, since you can get a slim leather wallet from Walmart, target, Kohl's, or amazon for under $15.00.
I had a card compromised once in the last few years, but I don't think it was RFID. No close quarters, public transportation, crowds, suspicious characters, etc. I think just someone-- staff or fellow customer -- being dishonest. These Ridge wallets are just too pricey. And I read the low-star reviews. Wow, pretty unpleasant.
nice and cool looking wallet but the price is not practical.
app if it goes out of range !
You should do a waterproof test
Interesting thought. What are you thinking is at risk with the materials or the design?
I'll get an Ekster senate instead
Did you just say "they do provide RFID protection in the aluminium - so that's great" ??? 5:31
Yes, the metal provides natural RFID protection. For a non-leather wallet, it's fine. I'm not particularly keen for any RFID in leather wallets.
This is why I moved away from the band wallet like the Radix One. That sorting is annoying
Most of the world uses the metric system. Would be nice, if you could use both.
Yes, in subsequent videos I do on the measurements and weight. Not sure when it started, but was early on.
Personally, I don't like the advancement of cashless-money. I still use a lot of coins and notes nowadays, and I'm still making use of my brother's old leather wallet; sewn some of the holes shut, and it works like a charm.
$72 lol try $100 to $175 lol Omg the day I spend 175 for a wallet is the day I realize I have too damn much money!
This looks horrible compared to the STOW wallet i'm currently trying. I'll buy and try most wallets, but not this... Do you think i should reconsider?
Having come to understand your wallet likes and dislikes a bit, I would probably say no. The STOW is unique in a space you would normally not venture into. BUT, if you'd like to try it, I'm interested in your opinion.
walletopia I'd be willing to try it out. Does it carry business cards?
@@erikkalifornia5182 Yep, think of two pieces of metal with an elastic strap between them, so anything that's card size will fit fine. The construction is detailed and thoughtful.
walletopia the problem is business cards are longer than a credit card, so not sure how it would fit...
walletopia hey, you should add business cards to your insertion test!
My biggest problem with this wallet is that there is no pocket for loose change. I don't want to have to carry change in my pocket if i have my wallet with me lmao.
Correct, but most people in the United States who never travel think coins are dead. The rest of the world would beg to differ.
@@walletopia I mean sure...but if there is allowances for paper money then...what exactly are you supposed to do with the change you get from a purchase? Seems like a pretty big design flaw for a wallet if it allows you to do that, but has nowhere to put the coins you get in change, especially for a wallet that is so expensive compared to something you can get cheap online that has that function.
Seeing this product sponsored everywhere now, this is just dumb, there is nothing wrong with the traditional style leather wallet.
No, nothing wrong with traditional style wallets, but there are many who like to try something new.
The Ekster wallet is a much better product
ty for selling me on leather.
So.......I'm dressed to "the nines," dining at a nice restaurant, the check arrives, and I pull that "thing" out of my suit jacket (inner) pocket - NEVER !!
For me Classic Bifold wallet was , is, n always be the best of all. In the name of experiment ,wallet has become a joke
In my opinion, the classic bi-fold wallet is the joke. Bulky hazardous to your health!
Just a heads up. Don't go with the money strap. It is useless.
Too expensive
I'm really torn on this channel and disappointed by this review. I support the approach being more objective in intent, but I feel there is a lot of subjectivity in the ratings.
Standard features gets a 3 as expected, but two videos earlier the cork wallet gets a 2 while also meeting expectations. Rdge received 4/5 perception because this it is "a great little product there" ...uh what? That has nothing to do with presentation, packaging, warranty, or brand reliability laid our in your "Walletopia Wallet Rating Scale Explained" video. They also seem to reference other videos like we're expected to have been channel followers for awhile (and as of Feb 2021 this is only the 3rd channel video).
It's also apparent the reviewer knew very little about the product going into it:
-They don't know which way the cards remove
-They don't know the intent of the removable screws (clip/band removal, replacement, faceplate swap)
-They suggest using loctite on the screws
-They weren't pinching the corners to fan the cards as recommended
-They make no mention of the additional styles available at the same price point
It just felt like this video was an initial impressions or first look, not really a review.
Hey Camden, thanks for the detail comment, always appreciated. This review was one of the first I did (April 2019) where I was still working out some of the approach. I actually did a 2nd LOOK video in January of this year (ua-cam.com/video/T_zyTdx_BKs/v-deo.html), recognizing that the original had some deficiencies (which I'm always ready to admit). 2nd LOOK videos are my favorites as time always reveals what's missed. I've done 9 videos around the Ridge, and overall over 200 reviews since those early days, and am still refining the approach, but am always open to and appreciate insights. As an example, through conversations with the community we have enough data to begin grouping like wallets so we can see more detailed comparisons as a whole versus only against itself. Data begins to really show some exciting things. Also, regarding the rating categories, the Perception leans more toward my personal subjectivity of the wallet and brand in addition to the more objective items like company's reputation, support, warranty, accessibility, etc., so you're certainly seeing that. I believe I've loosened up a bit to be more objective overall, but time and experience influence that, hopefully for the good.
Something I'll be introducing in the next couple weeks is what I'm calling "Shared Experience". I'll be inviting the community to do their own 2-5 minute videos about wallets they own, likes, dislikes, tips/tricks, learnings, etc. for everyone to benefit from. I'll edit them all up and do a compilation of 3-5 of them in a single video. The Ridge is one of those we're looking to get learning from owners we can share with everyone, so when it's announced I'd invite you to be part of it!
These wallets are too expensive, Ill pass
But i would buy it if it was apple 😂
This is truly shocking! I bought a ridge wallet about 5 years ago ( identical to this one) for less than $30, it has been sitting in a box at the back of my closet since about a week after I got it. It is a poorly designed product that would have disappeared a long time ago, If not for the hype from podcasters and UA-camrs. The fact that they're charging in excess of $70 for this pile of garbage should receive some sort of scrutiny.
" A fool and his money are soon parted"
Also, this is the first video I've seen from this channel, and based on his review... It's the last time I'll waste my time listening to this guy give his opinion. Sorry bro, but you are not doing anybody any favors with this kind of assessment.
How is this even a review if you are sponsored by the company, obviously you cant say anything negative about it or your not going to get paid...
I'm not sponsored by the company, where did you get that impression? Nobody sponsors us, we purchase all the wallets we review...no freebies.
Yes but it’s not paid by Ridge. Those are paid by the platform, in this case Amazon, who sells it. Affiliating is vastly different from sponsorship.
@@walletopia this is still more of an advertisement than a review since your making a percentage if anyone buys using your links...
Advertisements are paid, nobody paid for the product or placement except for me, which makes it my paid review. But if that's your definition, you'll never find a "review".
Who cares about box? I don’t carry a box. Fancy box tells me company is more concerned about style than value.
I think it’s a balance. If I pay a lot for a wallet, it had better come in something better than a plastic bag. But if the wallet is inexpensive, then expensive looking packaging tells me they’re trying to compensate. All the vendors are also trying to sell a lifestyle via their products, to build their brand around, which is often expressed in the packaging.
Looks like the dumbest wallet ever! So every time someone ID's me I gotta pop out all my credit cards, my health insurance card, my registration and proof insurance and my gate card to my apartment complex, all out onto the counter and sift through everything? Unreal. I guess people will by anything.
Yep, as a stack wallet (some allow you to “fan” out your cards), you’re really forced to extract the stack, sort out the card you want and then put it all back.
Pro tip: Download your health insurance card, and your insurance card to an app on your phone, and leave your registration in your car where it belongs. This will help slim down your wallet greatly ;).
Damn they really do have a UA-cam channel for everything. I never knew there were channels just for wallets
Me either, then I saw a very successful channel for shoe shining and thought, geezo, you really CAN do a channel about anything! 😀
walletopia I’ve gotta admit. I’m very impressed with your channel :)
Thanks man!
They have an affiliate link for the wallet, can't trust the review sorry
