The Village Church exists to bring glory to God by making disciples through gospel-centered worship, gospel-centered community, gospel-centered service and gospel-centered multiplication.
It was a good sermon but it didn't teach us how to walk in the Way in Jesus and your prayer asked that the Lord fill up your heart with his love, but failed to teach what we have to do for this to happen. You said repent and believe but you didn't express how this is done, leaving open the opportunity for mis-teaching by the pastor of any church. You said you are here to show how we enter into Gods kingdom, but left it hanging out to dry. As if we can do nothing on our own, yet you know we are to repent and believe. And then your sermon is over. What is the Way in Jesus? To be filled with God's love and truth yet where do we get it. In the church or in the mind of acceptance, in the innocence of a child? How is all of these expressions going to fill us with God's love and truth? By the power of prayer? By the holding on of hope that is assaulted from every angel of life as we see it, experience it, suffer from it? You should be so lucky or blessed to live among the weeds but not be a weed. But how does a weed transform into a plant of life, where is the teaching of the disciple in Jesus? This whole sermon set the understanding clear that God's kingdom is here yet failed to explain how we enter into the kingdom. By a prayer? By repentance, but where did you teach us how to repent? You didn't, and so your sermon while a good sermon still failed to pass on the Way we are to walk in Jesus. Saying that we need to doesn't tell us how. The focus is on repentance but like a fine looking car one wonders what's under the hood. What's in the heart. Yes Jesus reveals the love of God to his children, but what are we to do to walk in this love, and how do we know we even have it to live in? Every disciple must first learn the Way of becoming a disciple and then apply it in their lives so they may see to have the faith to believe. This sermon did not reveal that teaching, and yet showed the need for it. And then again failed to teach us how to walk in the Way in and of Jesus. This can only be for one reason...he does not know how to walk in the Way himself. So then let me show you, who wants to know, how to walk in the Way in Jesus. Repent to the acknowledging of truth. Why do you do the sin you do? Repentance is NOT the turning away from sin, but rather to seeing the truth to why you sin and what you must choose to do to stop it. Not by resisting, but by submitting to the loving Way that the true reason you do it reveals. Thus in submitting to God by his love, we resist the devil and he will flee. This is the true meaning of repentance. Why do we sin, what does the truth reveal as a loving alternative choice we can choose to do instead, to so choose to submit to, to abide in that loving Way until it transforms us to be One. To continue in our walk of repentance from sin to increase in the love we find to choose to be one with in increasing measure till our measure is full and sufficient to our belief in Jesus. And now having cast the plank out of our own eye first, we will then see clearly to cast the speck from our brother's eye by teaching them the Way of repentance to find the Way of Love, to become one in the Way in and of Jesus.
