I suffered for almost 3 years with systemic pain and I mean 8/10 most days. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I’m a nurse. I never had a history of pain. I’ve been fit including being a certified yoga instructor and fitness instructor. I reach a place where after 2-3 12 hour shifts at the hospital I had to go to bed for days. People who know me couldn’t believe how I never wanted to move when not working. I couldn’t! I was in intense pain all the time. I tried everything. Mobic only took the edge off. I got diagnosed with arthropathy of my lumbar spine. I’m 56 years old. I weigh 138 lbs. I was devastated. I couldn’t garden. Only work at the hospital and rest on days off. I found you on UA-cam. I had only started a carnivore diet 3 weeks earlier when I got kidney stones. My body purged itself. I thought I was dying or having an appendicitis, but I believe now my body dumped oxalates. The EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT at my hospital sent me home with nothing for pain to finish passing the stones. I thought I was dying. I wanted to die. Now, I follow a carnivore diet and I follow your research. I’m a Registered Nurse! This is vital information. I live almost carb free and I am return to normal function and good health now. God bless you! You are changing lives.
Peggy, I hope you're surviving your condition and learning to manage through the disfunctions you've experienced. It was refreshing and reassuring to hear a conscientious "healthy" medical professional validate this emerging perspective on plants foods. Best wishes on you journey through the oxalate dumping phase that I'm sure you are enduring.
I'm sorry for everything what you had to go through there is a woman named Sally K Horton she is an expert on oscillates she suggests to drink 4 oz and that will reduce the size of the stones and it will soften them God bless you on your journey
I’m so sorry you went through this, it’s awful. I wish the Carnivore diet gurus would emphasize this more. I jumped right into carnivore and within 4 days I had the most painful diarrhea and urination I’ve ever experienced. It felt like Elliot say, expelling shards of glass. I began watching oxalate videos and realized it was most likely this. I started adding either a vegetable or fruit with my 2 meals and felt better. But, encouraged by my 40 yr. old daughter who was doing fantastic on the diet, I dropped the vegs and fruit completely over a few weeks Not long after I am having excruciating pain in my knees and a bit less, but more than normal pain in my other joints. I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, arthritis, Hashimoto’s, idiopathic small and large fiber neuropathy, amongst other things. Anyway, I’m much worse than I was before Carnivore, which is so strange according to all of the stories I read, and my daughter’s experience. So, I’m guessing it’s oxalates. I’m so glad I found Elliot! So, I’m wondering how you are doing now, after a year or more?
@@suew4609 i’ve been on carnivore diet for two months and a half some of the oxalate symptoms that I had at first disappeared like skin rash lot of joint pain and kidney pain. And dry eyes because I started drinking two lemons a day with ACV also of my potassium and take calcium citric, but I’m still struggling cyclical pain in private parts and some tingling in the feet.
Judy thank you so much for having Elliot on your podcast. And thank you for allowing him to explain things without interrupting him. So many hosts won't allow their guests the time to really unravel complicated issues, and instead try to finish their sentences for them. Elliot is simply brilliant; and you are gracious!
Nice comment. It can be frustrating when an interviewer asks a question, doesn’t listen/interrupts and then gives their opinion instead. 🙈 Judy’s ability to listen is a gift indeed. I guess it takes presence and confidence to do this. The outcome is a much deeper interaction and a more rewarding experience for the audience
Wes Michaels, Thank you for your remarks on this one. This is my first time here and I just subscribed because of your comment. I to, have no patience for hosts who interrupt and speak over their guest. I was recently diagnosed with CKD and I have dealt with IBS for many years, so I am trying to learn as much, as fast, as I can. Best of Luck to you.
Oxalates are silent, slow killers, hence the lack of information about them. Thank goodness for videos such as this and a few others. Interestingly, all the specialists in this area (and others such as histamine) were motivated first by their own conditions, which doctors failed to detect or effectively treat. I cured my own eczema this way, but I don't discuss it much because most people are incredulous or even critical. Thank you for all your work.
Congrats, Luann, on your great success in healing your eczema! That is an exciting accomplishment! And just this week, I, too, have finally achieved my goal of freedom from pain due to "arthritis," which I realized a couple of months ago was due not just to lectins and nightshades but even more so to oxalates! (Not surprising since my diet was overwhelmingly rich in all the plants highest in oxalates.) I try to manage the dumping by continuing to consume some dark chocolate every day - only 2-3 squares - and so far, so good. But yesterday was actually my first day pain-free, so I am thrilled! And I am also eternally grateful to all the generous specialists who helped me along the way with amazing info-rich videos like this one! So again, congrats to you (AND myself lol), and a heartfelt wish for our continued healing.
@@cherylh4688 That's wonderful, Cheryl! The relief is indescribable, is it not? I have such appreciation and respect for my body these days; I'm not even tempted by foods that I used to love. It's hard to watch loved ones make poor food choices, but we can only control ourselves. Cheers from Germany 🇩🇪!
Did going low oxalate help with your eczema? I'm wondering what you did/what supplements you took to reverse your condition! Been suffering with mine for years now, and finding out that years of consuming oxalates definitely worsened things for me :(
My gosh - what an outstanding video. I learned so much. I already knew I had issues with oxalates when I went carnivore but still ate avocados & sugar free dark chocolates. The next day I was in a coma of fatigue that took me days to escape. Collagen does the exact same thing for me, so while carnivore touts the value of collagen I simply have to avoid it. In addition, I have Hashimotos, CFS, & Fibro so supplementing has been critical to my energy reserves. Once again the hard-core carnivores tout this is not acceptable. Until someone has been sick for 12+ years they shouldn't tell other folks what is and isn't good for them. Carnivore is awesome but as this video so clearly indicates, we are unique beings and have to address nutrition as such. Thanks so much for all your great videos. They are keeping me healthy & thriving. Oh, and all the CRAP I used to eat that was supposed to be good for me - no wonder I was sick!!! I made my own almond milk, used nut flours, made green smoothies till the cows came home. OMG...
The goal isn’t to eat for the purpose of labeling yourself a carnivore. The goal is health, wholeness and well being! I have zero issues cooking with avocado oil, eating avocados and a few other plants! One thing I did realize lately is that I was overusing supplements. Consider that all this food vitamin, mineral and supplement supplement stuff is information for your body. The more information you put in a time, the more your body has to work. I have to keep magnesium supplements and some probiotics and fish oil capsules, that’s been more than satisfying because it’s not too much energy!
"OMG," indeed, Carol!! I know the feeling, lol. I wasn't into almond milk or smoothies, but had a daily goal of eating at LEAST 2 cups of dark leafy greens every day (mostly kale & chard), plus every food he mentioned was a major part of my diet for years! So not a surprise I was experiencing crippling pain from "arthritis" in my feet for years, eventually spreading to shoulder joints and biceps! But not anymore!😅 Anyway, great comment! Thank you for sharing. But I did not remember that avocado has oxalates - was just getting ready to try adding it back to my diet! Nor was I aware there is any problem with collagen! Can you please be more specific re the collagen issues? I make, & consume daily, a homemade collagen-rich bone broth, mostly from poultry bones and chicken feet, plus I sometimes add bovine collagen peptides to it as well. Is that also rich in oxalates? Ofc I also still consume a couple of squares of 85% to 100% dark chocolate most days - not the last 2 days, however - and yet yesterday was my first day pain-free!!! So I'm wondering if maybe the bone broth is safe for me? Anyway, any help you can offer on this subject is greatly appreciated, but in any case, thanks again for your comment and esp the reminder about avocado, lol.
This is the most I've ever learned about Oxalates. Sally Norton always talks about using Lemon Juice to detox oxalates but Elliot Overton goes into much more depth on using Vitamin B1, B6, and Biotin. Awesome!
I’ve been trying to find a video about lemons being on the carnivore /lion diet. I had a very bad reaction after consuming it. Can you pls send me her link? I would truly appreciate this.
I know this is an older video, but just starting my carnivore journey and going through this series. When Elliot talked about the green smoothie, that really made things click for me in realizing why my body wouldn't heal with my Hashimoto's. And to think I was being healthy lol
The supplements recommended for those struggling with oxalate poisoning are calcium citrate, potassium citrate, magnesium citrate and potassium carbonate. The purpose of the calcium citrate is to help release oxalates from your tissues, so make sure it has not had vitamin D in it because vitamin D encourages the absorption of oxalates.
@vince1229 they did find that I had low parathyroid Which could have been caused by thr vitamin d supplementation I have gone of it now and will test things again to see if it normalises. But nothing to worry There is too much fear mongering about vitamin d I would say.
@vince1229 i don't really know I had improvement in sleep and I think it helps my mood and hormones. I am certain it helped with sleep the other two idk I have not been able to research about the oxalate stuff so idk. Prob is three is too many, bludy contradictions. One say x the other ones say y But for sure I'm glad I realised thar supplements are safe but medications are called drugs for a reason
I heard from another You Tuber that she took acidophilus for months & took a test to see how high she had them in her gut. It improved mildly. Then she started to sun her belly & after a few months & took a test & her microbiom increased way more than taking the expensive acidophilus.
Oh man! I stopped hurting so much when I went carnivore and found relief immediately by fasting and eating only carnivore. You’re right! Once I realize the food I was eating was hurting me, I stopped!
Yikes, I am 77, and ate super high oxalates for 16 years. 13 weeks ago went 100% carnivore over night, so to zero oxalates overnight! Had a lot of bizarre poo problems, exhaustion, lot of pain, and I had just had a hip replacement 4 months before. Now learning about oxalates, in zoom call with Sally Norton yesterday, Judy and Elliot here today. I figured out I needed a lot of Magnesium and Potassium. Now I am eating a teeny amount of oxalates each day. 6 olives, half a cup of blueberries, ... Thank you both, this was excellent.
Wow, Elliot Overton is so knowledgable. I now know I had Oxalate Toxicity. But listening to Elliot saying that he has seen that people can think they are having a heart attack, with palpapations, stressed breathing, I experienced this when I was transitioning from Keto - heavy Oxalates to Carnivore. I have never called the Emergency services before but I did that night. Lightbulb moment, thank you. I thought it was because of a lack of electrolytes, but now also believe because of what Elliot said it was Oxalates. I now find that if I do a three day fast - the fourth day I feel as though I have been hit by a bus, every joint aches. I believe this is my body dumping. I have learnt to up my potassium, magnesium, sodium to help my body. Thank you Judy for allowing Elliot to speak with little interruption.
Me too Tina. How are you doing these days? Ive been oxalate detoxing as fast as I can for over a year now. It is getting a little better… a little easier… still a bummer.
Well done Elliott- "Thank you - this is such a shocking lightbulb moment for me - downloaded Sally's book.- good to hear your local English voice - annie
I do as close to zero carbs as possible due to addiction. Watching Dr Robert Cywes helped me greatly to understand what I was dealing with and how to no longer have the issues, especially psychologically, with carbs that I had. Really appreciate the depth of this interview.
DouglassD Very interesting, I have very few foods, I can eat... So I fit in here. Not by choice. Due to salicylate. Oxalate, Allium, inherited DNA, disorders... No fish/ No Red Meat./ seeds/ Nuts... 2 Fruits.. Not pleasant..
Oxalate concentration in my body almost killed me at age 34. I completely switched to full carnivore just a week ago, and the improvements in my health have been sublime. It's quite instantaneous. It only took 4 days for all the pain to go away. #CarnivoreForLife ❤
Super super very informative video Judy. Just show how much nonsense we have been fed for so long about healthy nutrition. Since going total Carnivore I have gradual steady strong improvement in my health. You both are so Knowledgeable on this. And the long term damage we have been doing ourselves with the oxalates is mind blowing.
@@NutritionwithJudy Judy thank you for your very kind response to me. Your story and journey here is much the same as my own. How super you all looked for your age. Then I went down the rabbit hole of research and made the move myself. Thanks to you and your wonderful channel you were answering all the questions I had about the change. You are such a wonderful resource for this lifestyle and shinning example of it in practice. What a fantastic interview. My keto diet migrated on to eating a lot of high oxalate foods to make up the calories and I'm new to understanding everything about oxalates and joining the dots. I am already taking iodine, boron, and use magnesium oil (which I make myself). Learning that oxalates send candida into defence mode makes a huge amount of sense and rather than leaping into carnivore from the diet I've had, I now intend to continue to eat small amounts of oxalates to gradually decrease. I also recognise that I most likely have a potassium deficiency, and will look at taking a B complex too. The last couple of meals I've had have been predominantly meat or fish based and I've noticed how this lifts the brain fog which I have battled with for such a long while. Thank you both so much.
I'm huge Elliott fan. I've been following him for the past few years and find his passion for health infectious. I can't say I've watched all of his videos but I've watched pretty much all the ones I can find on UA-cam, because he never disappoints.
Turmeric can contain a significant amount of oxalate, which can form calcium oxalate kidney stones (the most common type of kidney stone). However, some curcumin products (which are extracts of turmeric) contain little to no oxalate.
The more I learn about oxalate dumping the more I understand why I couldn’t get my electrolytes balanced when I went full carnivore cold turkey. Even with a lot of potassium supplementation I was experiencing symptoms of hypokalemia. This was so informative and interesting.
We’re you having muscle burning and muscle cramps. I am just now seeing this video! I’m on day 50 for the car for an hour lion diet. I cannot get rid of the severe muscle burning and cramping over my entire body. I don’t sleep!
Great interview Judy!...Elliot really helped clarify how to "gradually" decrease oxalate toxcity by slowly reducing oxalate intake 5-10% and monitoring intensity of dumping based on your symptom pattern...can take an average of 3-4 months or longer but this general framework helps. 👍 😊
Very good discussion full of valuable information. My whole life I lived on a high oxalate diet. I thought my problems were my bad health and I was going to die early, it may have been my diet. I now will slowly wean myself off these foods. I would not have known that without listening to this video.
Thank You for this amazing video with Elliot 👏🏻👏🏻👍👍 I am sure MANY MANY people are still incorporating lots of spinach (the healthiest vegetable on earth) and almonds and probably suffering from pains and symptoms they don’t even know where it is originating from! If you told them what the culprits are, they won’t believe you... 😬☹️
So agree. I belong to a group of women who all suffer from some of the worst illnesses out there. They all refuse to NOT eat veggies, they have no clue what oxalates are, and they vilify meat. It makes my heart break to see them suffer.

I did hear Sally Norton but I got info from you that I didn’t get from her. I think you’re both awesome and I think that people need to hear the same thing from different people…
Wow this was a Fantastic interview!!! Cried and could see myself at 1:13 on. Struggling and will start to add some supplementation so I can heal faster and start to get some energy. So excited over this interview.
I try to frame my journey now without the concept of "chasing a single causative factor". The reality is you have to be patient enough to respect the unmasking deficiencies Elliot spoke of via Dr Lonsdales work. Keep the passion for health but acknowledge the complexity of our beautiful bodies. Elliot's work, your great interviews, It's been a true source of hope and edifies the patient who has likely become low key experts on these topics. Gratitude for all of you!
Stunningly important video for me. I have listened twice and have made some supplement adjustments. Every plant based eater would definitely benefit from this information. Thank you so much!
Looking forward to consulting with Elliot Overton when I get back to the UK next month. I think he's finally the person who is going to be able to help me!!
I’m sure oxalate dumping is what I’m experiencing since around day 12 carnivore. I was waking up every night soon after falling asleep with my heart feeling beating out of my chest. Resting heart rate up around 150. Ended up in urgent care they said it was probably anxiety. Not sure how that’s possible while I’m sleeping. I haven’t had any stressful events recently. I ate some peanut butter and a little bit of banana the other night and it didn’t happen. It was the only thing in the house I find with oxalates. Im going to introduce some less toxic high foods and start weaning off from there. I had heard of oxalate dumping but never would have thought it could be this intense until it happened to me.
I have Osteophytes (Osteo Arthritis) on my hips which I know believe are Oxalate crystals which have been getting worse since my birth after a trauma. So I have been Carnivore for six weeks and keto for awhile before. Just to say my condition has stabilised if not a little bit easier and no dumping issues maybe due to lots of Atlantic Sea Salt and about 3 desert spoons of ACV in a pint of water 3x a day. I also still have bullet proof coffee in the morning. Loved the bit about Micro nutrients and supplementation ☕
Interesting discussion. Transitioning from clean vegan to ketovore and that camp was fervent about not supplementing. Data is king! I went and got complete lab work including my vitamin profile so I can supplement appropriately. Our bodies are moving, living specimens which needs careful looking after.
Excellent info! I'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't had much in the way of this issue, been almost three years, but I know some who suffer greatly. Happy to see Elliot on your channel, we enjoy his content. 😄
Good info. Where I live in Canada you cannot find a doctor. Let alone someone as knowledgeable and who can and will take the time to assess and follow up. So I am thankful you both and others are here for us ❤️
This is utterly brilliant and has addressed exactly my needs. Suffering increased pain and disautonomia symptoms on carnivore. Have fibromyalgia, costochondritis, tmj, reactive hypoglycaemia. I think you’ve given me the answers I’ve been desperately seeking.
Thank you Elliot!! Gosh 3 yrs Oxalate free and dumping… bad pain during the detox process… now transition to Carnivore, 1 week already no pain!!! OMGosh 🎉🎉🎉
After almost 30 yrs of high oxalate diet; I became very ill & no conventional or Intergrative Dr. could help me. Until I saw Sally K. Norton podcast on UA-cam. Also read her book “Toxic Superfoods”. Since going on a low oxalate diet. I cured my IBS, CFS, joint/muscle pains, sciatica, gout, frequent urination & migraines in less than a month. I had no problems w extreme dumping.
Very interesting information with many things to ponder. I'll be watching this one again for sure. I used to supplement with various things 'just in case' but quit a few years ago after learning doing so can have unintended consequences. It's important to work with a professional so as not to make things worse. Thanks so much for your excellent content!
"When you go down that Rabbit hole it doesn't end" yep a decade here after going GF and Peanut Free- now into carnivore & fasting to address auto immune garb. Great interview. Thank you.
@@kateaye3506 I feel amazing! Yes. I have had issues, "allergies" rashes, leaky eyes, gut issues etc. since I was a little girl. Saw immunologists and naturopaths. Came into paleo to keto to ketovore to basically carnivore and fasting to heal my body and rid it of inflammation. Dr. Ken Barry, Dr. Boz, Dr. Shawn Baker, Dr. Saladino, Dr. Fung, Dr. Berg. Have been my teachers. I do 2 fasts a week. and Then eat meat, butter, eggs, cheese, shrimp for sure 1x a day and some days 2x a day. I don't miss all those other foods. It is a process psychologically to unravel and uncondition, but I am so glad that I am seeing my body heal.
I started carnivore almost 2 months ago. Over the past few weeks I've developed what looks like hives on my neck, under my bra line, hips and legs. Some have turned into 3 inch in diameter welts that present like a bug bite. The last week I have added about a cup of spinach once a day and a handful of almonds a day in an attempt to slow the dumping. I haven't had the massive welts for 3 days but when I woke up this morning I had the hives under my bra line and shoulder blades again. I'm hearing it could be an egg allergy. I have no other symptoms and have never had any issues with anything. Is this oxalate dumping? How long should the hives stop after reintroducing high oxalate food?
Great info I’m SO SO Sooooo thankful for you both; now I know for sure I have bad bad bad oxalate damage! And I was detoxing way too fast & I headed your warning & was able to stop it & the bad distress while I was listening to you!! One thing: What about blood type for ppl who eat meat are 0Neg or 0Pos and the A I think is more grain & Bs are I think are both? Maybe that’s a big factor as to who can eat oxalates well or not?
I wonder about blood types as well!! I wish everyone included that info in there testimony/health journey. It is an obvious distinction between people & groups. I can imagine each blood group is more likely to have similar responses. But who knows because no one is tracking that basic, fundamental distinction.
I switched from a raw cooked fruitarian vegan diet in retrospect with very large amout of oxalatic foods like brown rice, sweet potatoes, cacao, smoothies, fruits legumes, and beans, i was addicted, could not stop thinking of food, now on carnivore for twoo weeks and the crwvings are gone, but i do not experience all the oxalate dumping sinptoms, juat muscle pain if i use heavy lifting, the sleep readjusted, i use to have insomnia, i now sleep 7-9 hours with one or two interuptions, one for bathroom, i do pee alot during the day, but have no cravings for any tipe of fruit sweets cooked pastries or any other carb related foods. Yesterday i at 500g of cow liver or more and i belive it activated my candida, maybe it was because of the higher carb content, which i just learned it has and breoke my ketosis i feel like which is not setup fully in my body anyways, syill trying to eat more fat than i am eating currenty, i eat alot during they day in two meals, don't count calories at all, usually ground beef which is not fresh, 75% mature meat 24% fresh, eggs sardines, beef liver heart sometimes, some pork, still alot to learn and understand for this perspective because of all the years of being vegan which damaged my body, thinking and psyche, and i two weeks honestly i feel the recovery happening, slowly but enough to continue without any doubt. I still not sure if i want to eat though anything to stop the oxalate dumping which is not strong but can be an issue in the future, my biggest issue is tolerance fo cold has gone down and my extremities feet and hands are colder now. Plus i feel more anxious now because i feel more alive, people sense me more i believe and it's kind of intimidating to have so many eyes on me, my depressive side improved a bit but now wow, but i am hopeful.
here because I'm 57 days into Carnivore. I'd say I was a pretty high oxalate consumer before, and I'd say I was not in great metabolic health, headaches, fatigue, soreness, chronic back pain, and very inconsistent digestion/intestine issues. about 3 weeks into it, severe back pain/spasms, then another 3 weeks and down hard sick with fever, sore throat, now I have a lingering cough, lingering back pain, and fatigue. So in that situation, do i add oxalate rich foods to try to get blood back to a level that reduces dumping?
TLDR Intracellular Impact: • Nano and micro crystals of oxalate can penetrate cells and disrupt their function. • Oxalate can interfere with specific enzymes (carboxylate enzymes) important for metabolism. • Nano crystals can alter intracellular biochemistry and interfere with cellular energy production (mitochondrial dysfunction). • Oxalate might contribute to chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, autoimmune conditions, and more. Oxalate Synthesis and Deficiency: • Oxalates are both present in the diet and endogenously produced by the liver. • Conditions like primary hyperoxaluria involve excessive oxalate production due to genetic mutations. • Nutrients like vitamin B6 and thiamine (B1) play roles in diverting precursors away from oxalate production. • Individuals with oxalate issues often exhibit thiamine and sometimes vitamin B6 deficiencies. Candida and Oxalates: • Yeast like Candida might not be the primary source of oxalates in the body. • Research suggests high oxalate intake can shift Candida to a pathogenic state. • Lowering oxalate intake may alleviate Candida-related issues. Oxalate Dumping and Carnivore Diet: • Many follow the carnivore diet, but blame various issues on "oxalate dumping." • Some attribute pain and symptoms to oxalates without proper understanding. • Key symptoms of oxalate-related issues include joint/muscle pain, skin problems, urinary discomfort, and gut issues. • Oxalate levels vary in foods: spinach (2 cups) or almond flour (2-3 cups) can reach 500 mg. • Some high oxalate foods: turmeric, cinnamon, gluten-free grains, nuts, amaranth, and brown rice. • Not everyone faces oxalate-related problems; individual factors matter. • Blood levels of oxalate influence symptoms; gradual reduction is important. • Transitioning to a carnivore diet should be personalized based on oxalate burden. • For some, oxalate reduction is crucial before fully adopting a carnivore diet. Oxalate Issues and Slow Transition: • Low oxalate diet can lead to low blood oxalate levels. • Tissues sense oxalate drop and release, activating immune system. • Dumping oxalate quickly can lead to severe symptoms (hypokalemia). • Rapid removal might cause heart palpitations, anxiety, ER visits. • Gradual transition recommended, especially for those with issues. • Transition period can be 2-4 months or even longer. • Slow reduction advised, even by 5-10% per week for some. • Some can shift to carnivore diet quickly, but caution is key. • Individual variation in response to anti-nutrients like oxalates. • Biotin deficiency can occur on high oxalate diet, affecting enzymes. • Other anti-nutrients like lectins, phytates also affect individuals. • Biotin important for energy metabolism, skin, hair, and more. • Oxalate can displace biotin in enzymes, leading to dysfunction. • Tests might not always show biotin deficiency accurately. • Carnivorous approach can help mitigate oxalate issues. • B6 and B12 deficiencies can also be common with oxalate problems. • Slow and controlled supplementation recommended. • Epsom salt baths and sulfur supplements might trigger oxalate dumping. • Identifying nutrient deficiencies can be complex due to enzyme interactions. • Addressing deficiencies may involve targeted supplementation. Supplements: • Working with clients involves careful evaluation and personalized plans. Different schools of thought on supplements • Some believe diet alone is sufficient • Others, like you, think supplementation can help • Chronic nutrient deficiencies might require support • Gut health can affect nutrient absorption • B complex supplementation might be helpful • Water-soluble vitamins are easily excreted • Identify individual deficiencies and symptoms • High-dose nutrients can be used temporarily • Nutrient interactions and cofactors matter • Nose-to-tail approach for nutrient variety (Nose-to-tail eating is a nutritional philosophy that involves eating every part of an animal, horns to hooves.) • Chronic conditions increase nutrient demands • Some carnivores benefit from vitamin C supplementation due to potential bleeding gums and scurvy concerns. • Chronic inflammatory conditions and heavy metal burden can increase the need for certain nutrients. • Methyl donors and glutathione status can be depleted, necessitating careful nutrient management. • Factors like cortisol, B vitamins, and complex pathways impact hormone balance in health. • A mixture of meat, organ meats, bone broths, and fatty foods forms the core of this individual's diet. • Occasional cravings for vegetables and fruits are satisfied in moderation. • Personalized dietary choices stem from genetic predispositions and personality traits. • Trusting your body's responses and maintaining a flexible approach to nutrition is key.
Just started Carnivore75Hard. Good info. I am a gastric bypass post-op of almost 12 years. I still cannot eat enough meat to get in the protein that my body requires which is 90+g per day. I try to eat those fatty meats but it is so dense that if I try to push it, it isn't pretty. Generally, regurgitation is the result. So I do rely on my bariatric vitamins and a zero carb whey isolate protein powder to supplement my protein needs. I don't want to eat veggies, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts or seeds. I don't do a lot of dairy but eggs are easy to come by as I have 4 chickens. I always have prepared eggs in the fridge. Will I be allowed to share this in the group without causing problems? Will I still be permitted in the group? I won't be upset if I can't be but I will continue the challenge privately if necessary. Thank you for your time, your pursuit of valuable nutrition knowledge and for giving us this program.
You’re welcome in my group lol. Sounds sane to me. Sally k Norton discusses gastric bypass in one of her interviews. It causes more oxalates absorption z wishing you the best
Excellent discussion thank you both :-) What happens though if carnivore doesn't help my health along to the extent i was hoping and would like to supplement, but i cannot tolerate supplements of any kind. How could i get around this challenge please ?
Interesting comments about "Breast Cancer". I previously had to have "calcium deposits" excised from my breasts. Is this what he was referring to when he discussed crystals?
Very interesting! Especially his talk about Breast Cancer and Dense Breast and Calcium. I need to learn more on this topic. Oxalate Dumping. I am very confused!
This is why I supplement on ketovore. B1, Zn, Mg, Cu were all depleted. I can at least function somewhat when I supplement with those. If I don’t I’m just too sick and weak
Great conversation, thank you. I wonder how much of the plant toxins are biochemically reactings with man-made and environmental poisons inside living human tissues. No studies, no inkling even to consider th e complex processes of combining say, oxalates and glyphosate; oxalates and phytates and mercury and arsenic, etc. The combinations are endless. How much of modern agricultural plant foods are made more toxic by pesticides, herbicides, plastic contamination? Because profit rules all human endeavor, we’ll never know and be forever arguing about it with our diminished brains due to poisoning. This is why it’s crucial to be your own test subject and try it all and figure it out for yourself.
Hi, Thank you for the excellent Video. Hopefully you could answer my question. I sometimes take collagen hydrolysate and thought of it as beneficial. In your Talk you refer to it as in the end a contributor to oxalate through proline? Is it okay to take collagen or is there a Save Range and dosage or is it to better be avoided. I know that everybody is different and there is no exakt answer but maybe you can give me a hint. Thank you!
@@NutritionwithJudy thank you. In fact I don't have any issues any more now that I am carnivore but I also don't want them to start again. But I will just feel how it affects me. Looking foreward to your post. Greetings.
I am planning to start bone broth in my crockpot. It’s a big step but I need to change as I’ve been killing myself with Heath food. I think A few drops of lugol’s iodine daily is great (?)
Thank you Judy, for having Elliot on...I found him to be very interesting & thought provoking. I actually recently went keto & don't have health issues, but I'm interested in carnivore. Is collagen powder with peptides oxalate inducing or unhealthy? How do you know if you're oxalate sensitive? I went keto to hopefully transition to carnivore, but not sure if I can eliminate everything.
I went from vegetarian to keto to almost totally carnivore (I eat an apple or pear daily). At first I was appalled by how many things I was eliminating, but I started to feel so good that it hasn't been a problem. My chronic eczema cleared up, and I wake up healthy and happy every day. It beats anything! Good luck!
@@malindadenlinger882 No more apples, sadly. I found that one apple led to two, and two led to three. Sweets are difficult to eat in moderation, so I have to say no to fruit.
When it comes to oxalates, we don’t talk about ‘sensitivities’, we talk about poisoning. It is a toxin, it does harm everyone - and the more you had it, the more damage to be expected. The reason some people doesn’t seem to have a problem with it is that they haven’t accumulated enough of it in order to experience symptoms. But you can see how it is a matter of time - if you keep taking the toxin in, sooner or later problems will start to appear. And you may not even suspect this is causing it.
I have stones in my salivary glands but for years its never been a problem until I got to about 8 weeks into the carnivore diet, now I get shooting sharp pains in the glands, I figure my body is trying to dump oxalates
I want to add another bio individual marker in between abstainer and moderator that is more a spectrum and heavily depends on hormonal, emotional and psychological health. When I’m in balance, i can moderate. I have chocolate sitting in my cupboards for months now. When I’m stressed and off balance, I need to abstain. At that point I lean on butter and fat and fully nourishing myself. People who partake of cannabis and get the munchies can understand this. The moderation/abstaining can turn off and on like switching a channel.
Thank you to you both for this in-depth and thoroughly interesting discussion. I began carnavore 8weeks ago. Went cold turkey without knowing the side effects unfortunately. Hoping to heal fibromyalgia (35yrs of this). Trying hard to figure this out on my own and with the help of good knowledgeable people like yourselves. I have been supplementing with daily benfotiamine 250mg, B Complex, vitD3 (30,000iu) boron 9mg ,zinc, magnesium, calcium citrate. Im feeling much worse on carnavore. Electrolyte issues. Had the flu for 5 days. Very fatigued. Feeling overwhelmed. Should I increase the Benfotiamine and B Complex plus add in B6? Its a minefield. Just really want to heal from. Also which is the best magnesium to take with oxalate issues. I have found magnesium citrate way too hard. Thank you to you both once again. I have subscribed.🤗🦋
Some people find magnesium glycinate easier on the gut. Magnesium Malate is another option. It’s worth trying different ones to see what suits you best. Personally I use transdermal magnesium spray as my gut doesn’t tolerate any oral magnesium too well. Hope this helps.
@@emosag thank you for your reply. Interesting about the magnesium. Still having electrolyte issues which could very well be the oxalates after reading Sally K Norton's book. I'm alternating the magnesium with malate, citrate and glycinate now. I wish you well 🤗
Elliot, what if you’re already a few weeks into eating carnivore and didnt ease out oxalates? Now I’m a but nervous of getting hit by nasty dumping. Ive ordered calcium citrate and B1 and B-complex. Added potassium bicarbonate. Should any of this be helpful in easing down possible dumping affects? I’m sure many people jumped to carnivore and werent aware of the oxalates issue, but with all these videos are being made aware of it now after the fact. Should we eat some low amount of oxalate/veggies now even though many of us jumped feet-first into carnivore? Thanks.
@Nutrition with Judy , what do you think about MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)? Does it help with removing oxalates and does it have negative side effects to tissues, bones, joints, etc?
Remember that Oxalates are in a class of their own, according to Sally Norton. It is not like a protein, such as gluten. (Even though I am sensitive to gluten) Oxalate is an out and out Toxic Poison. Sorry, I didn't agree with some of the comparisons. It is different from anti-nutrients. Sally, breaks it down in realistic terms. Even though there are important nuggets here, at the same time some substantial muddying of the waters... may cause confusion, or the thought, "Oh Oxalates, don't affect the average person." Who doesn't have poor gut health in the modern age? How many have never had multiple antibiotics, glyphsates/pesticide ridden food, poor quality diets, vaccines, fluoride, bromine, chlorine in water, food or environment, etc., etc.?
@@NutritionwithJudy In Sally's latest interview, she mentions how some individuals have absolutely no symptoms for years, while silently the Oxalates are causing devasting damage in a specific area of the body, i.e., the female reproductive organ, for example. If memory serves me right, she had that experience in her female organs. Asymptomatic, for a lengthy period, and suddenly a catastrophe!
@@brookgraves368 Go ahead over to my channel @ EONutrition. I have a long discussion with Sally there. Don't get me wrong... when oxalate is a problem it is a real problem. But the truth is that most people are fine eating 150mg per day with no issues. Reality attests to that. Look at any of the centenarians/supercentenarians... many at a bunch of oxalate. That is not to say that this isnt a real, genuine issues for a LOT of people (I consult with them internationally every day), but it doesn't apply across the board!
If you've destroyed your gut flora you may not be able to deal with oxalates: "Oxalobacter formigenes and Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species are the best studied in this regard, with oxalate degradation in the lactic acid bacteria being both species- and strain-specific." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20602988/
@@EONutrition Not sure in Britain, but the average American child eats peanut butter sandwiches and russet potatoes in many forms, sometimes everyday of the week, and multiple times per day, for example. That alone, probably goes over the recommended amount. When children become teens, the French fries addiction increases, exponentially! Personally, I was one of those kids. And interestingly, before the spinach smoothie craze was mainstream, I was doing a lot of that with almond milk. Weird, I had never heard of Oxalates, but I noticed after a lengthy period that I could no longer handle spinach in any form, but continued with almonds and almond milk. At one point noticed that almond flour made me ill, though. Now, finally realizing why all this was occurring. A huge mystery explained...
So am I understanding that if you went full carnivore and started getting these issues, is he saying add back in the oxalate for the time being? My husband is on week 4 of carnivore. At 2 weeks he started having issues. He has very tight, stiff joints, cramping, headaches, can't sleep. Need some advice.
Yes, the point is to slow down the oxalate release temporarily so you can handle the pain and discomfort. You may have to give your body a little oxalate off and on so it won’t dump so much on you all at once.
I am one of those patients that conventional medicine wasn’t working. I have noticed a huge difference in joint pain after starting carnivore, and each time I introduce a plant food to test things out, the joint pain comes back, as well as some issues in the gut. While meat and animal fat do not create painful gut issues, I still have issues eliminating (bms) regularly, and will end up a whole week no movement, which leads me to using an emergency dose of epsom salt and water. Lately I have listened to the migraine doctor to increase salt and water, more than most carnivore eaters. So I will see if that also fixes the regularity.
@@janicemclaughlin7600Drink 4oz of what?
Judy’s ability to listen is a gift indeed. I guess it takes presence and confidence to do this. The outcome is a much deeper interaction and a more rewarding experience for the audience
I agree! I Thank you Judy!
Can't agree with you more!
So agree that the moderating was perfect! Too few people do so well.
95% won't change their diets and ask for a pill.
Well said.
(Not surprising since my diet was overwhelmingly rich in all the plants highest in oxalates.)
I try to manage the dumping by continuing to consume some dark chocolate every day - only 2-3 squares - and so far, so good.
OMG...
Only a few people can go straight up carnivore. Most of us aren’t like that, thanks for saying that!
Exactly
Same...I've been damaging my body for the past decade!!! 😭
But not anymore!😅
Anyway, great comment!
Vitamin d encourages oxalate what??????
Please can I have more info/ videos on this please

I heard from another You Tuber that she took acidophilus for months & took a test to see how high she had them in her gut. It improved mildly. Then she started to sun her belly & after a few months & took a test & her microbiom increased way more than taking the expensive acidophilus.
Oh man! I stopped hurting so much when I went carnivore and found relief immediately by fasting and eating only carnivore. You’re right! Once I realize the food I was eating was hurting me, I stopped!
So you’re lucky to not have major dumping symptoms that seem to go on for years with so many .:
Hello:) did that work for you
Wow, Elliot Overton is so knowledgable.
Where do you take potassium from? Suppliment or meat?
Me too Tina. How are you doing these days? Ive been oxalate detoxing as fast as I can for over a year now. It is getting a little better… a little easier… still a bummer.
Have you tried lemon juice for the dumping ?
Well done Elliott- "Thank you - this is such a shocking lightbulb moment for me - downloaded Sally's book.- good to hear your local English voice - annie
I do as close to zero carbs as possible due to addiction. Watching Dr Robert Cywes helped me greatly to understand what I was dealing with and how to no longer have the issues, especially psychologically, with carbs that I had. Really appreciate the depth of this interview.
Thomas Myers dr C helped me, too. I ‘got it’ and stopped sweeteners.
I really like Dr Cywes, but he eats veggies doesn't he?
Lorie Green he mentioned he’s mostly carnivore. Veg here and there
Avoiding carbs is just nonsensical. In fact, a study showed that both high and low carb diets lead to shorter lifespans.
Don’t see how you didn’t have oxalate dumping. Mine is coming out through my skin and it is soooo itchy.
Dumping will come at some point just be on the look out for it…itching flu like symptoms I developed heart arrhythmia.
Your videos on oxalates with Sally Norton and Elliot Overton are the best I've seen. Good questions.

This is insane. I've been drowning in Oxalates! Thank you for this.
The more I learn about oxalate dumping the more I understand why I couldn’t get my electrolytes balanced when I went full carnivore cold turkey. Even with a lot of potassium supplementation I was experiencing symptoms of hypokalemia. This was so informative and interesting.

Elliot is amazing. His knowledge is mind-blowing. I appreciate this interview and have learned so much. Thank you both!

What part of the uk does he have a practice?
I’m sure oxalate dumping is what I’m
experiencing since around day 12 carnivore. I was waking up every night soon after falling asleep with my heart feeling beating out of my chest. Resting heart rate up around 150. Ended up in urgent care they said it was probably anxiety. Not sure how that’s possible while I’m
sleeping.
Great info. I was Carnivore for a number of months and became Vitamin C deficient and borderline anaemic. Definitely worth monitoring closely.
This was a great interview, Elliot is such an expert! and he explains everything so well
Interesting discussion. Transitioning from clean vegan to ketovore and that camp was fervent about not supplementing. Data is king! I went and got complete lab work including my vitamin profile so I can supplement appropriately. Our bodies are moving, living specimens which needs careful looking after.
Love his channel EO nutrition I learn a lot
Incredible talk. I'll have to watch it again and again to digest all that information. So very glad I found this channel.
So I am thankful you both and others are here for us ❤️
I agree at the end why fix something if it's not broke. Stay Carnivore.
Excellent... many nuances coming out here... thanks Judy & Elliot ❤️
OMGosh 🎉🎉🎉
Extremely informative! Thank you for sharing this information. What a brilliant interview.
WOW 😳 this guy is brilliant!!! How does he remember all this information!!!🤯
Passion
Thanks ....Great interview Elloitt is great explaining the complexity of what our bodies are trying to deal with.
Most Awesome deep dive. Top of 2021 interview.
Thanks 👍
What supplements do you suggest for:
B1
B6
Vitamin C
Trace minerals
Sardines
Fantastic interview! So very informative....
Excellent podcast! Great guest! Fantastic interviewer! ❤
“Take Care of your body because it’s the only place you have to live” is a phrase gojiman says at the end of his vids too, interesting 🤔
Nutrition with Judy funny part is he’s a vegan UA-camr and he just made a vid about oxalates
Thank you, really good. Crazy dumping problems at the moment.
gave up tea, which I drank a ton of, iced tea, hot tea and cinnamon oxalates are sneaky, thanks elliot and judy!
Me too replaced tons of tea with water.
It would be nice if someone could do a list of foods that’s accurate. So many list contradict themselves.
Thank you Judy 🌹
"When you go down that Rabbit hole it doesn't end"
yep a decade here after going GF and Peanut Free- now into carnivore & fasting to address auto immune garb. Great interview. Thank you.
Are you finding carnivore is helping your autoimmune issues?
Sounds like all of Life that’s exactly what I’ve been saying even before I was gracefully led to the oxalate info !!!
Love Elliot and how he presents the information.
Wow so much info to absorb! Don't know where to start.
I love This guy. I have learned a ton!
Almost 74. Carnivore since 1/1/20. 50 days in candida AND a UTI at the same painful time!!! Haven't had a UTI since 1960's!!! OUCH!!
Fascinating interview, thanks.
This was super helpful, thanks!!
here because I'm 57 days into Carnivore.
TLDR
Intracellular Impact:
• Nano and micro crystals of oxalate can penetrate cells and disrupt their function.
Oxalate Synthesis and Deficiency:
• Oxalates are both present in the diet and endogenously produced by the liver.
• Conditions like primary hyperoxaluria involve excessive oxalate production due to genetic mutations.
• Nutrients like vitamin B6 and thiamine (B1) play roles in diverting precursors away from oxalate production.
• Individuals with oxalate issues often exhibit thiamine and sometimes vitamin B6 deficiencies.
Candida and Oxalates:
• Yeast like Candida might not be the primary source of oxalates in the body.
• Research suggests high oxalate intake can shift Candida to a pathogenic state.
• Lowering oxalate intake may alleviate Candida-related issues.
Oxalate Dumping and Carnivore Diet:
• Many follow the carnivore diet, but blame various issues on "oxalate dumping."
• Some attribute pain and symptoms to oxalates without proper understanding.
Oxalate Issues and Slow Transition:
• Low oxalate diet can lead to low blood oxalate levels.
Supplements:
• Working with clients involves careful evaluation and personalized plans. Different schools of thought on supplements
• Some believe diet alone is sufficient
• Others, like you, think supplementation can help
• Chronic nutrient deficiencies might require support
• Gut health can affect nutrient absorption
• B complex supplementation might be helpful
• Water-soluble vitamins are easily excreted
• Identify individual deficiencies and symptoms
• High-dose nutrients can be used temporarily
• Nutrient interactions and cofactors matter
• Nose-to-tail approach for nutrient variety (Nose-to-tail eating is a nutritional philosophy that involves eating every part of an animal, horns to hooves.)
• Chronic conditions increase nutrient demands
• Some carnivores benefit from vitamin C supplementation due to potential bleeding gums and scurvy concerns.
It scares me how smart you two are.
Very interesting! Especially his talk about Breast Cancer and Dense Breast and Calcium. I need to learn more on this topic. Oxalate Dumping. I am very confused!
Use chanca piedro tincture to remove oxalates 💜
Extremely helpful. 🙏
This is why I supplement on ketovore. B1, Zn, Mg, Cu were all depleted. I can at least function somewhat when I supplement with those. If I don’t I’m just too sick and weak
Folate too?
Loving Judy’s channel! New subscriber
Greetings.
Thank you for this. It is so helpful :)
Some nutrients like boron can be obtained from bone meal. Iodine will be high in pasture-raised eggs.
Good luck!
@@TerriblePerfection what time of day do you eat the apple?
@@malindadenlinger882 No more apples, sadly. I found that one apple led to two, and two led to three. Sweets are difficult to eat in moderation, so I have to say no to fruit.
@@TerriblePerfection cheese and nuts are like that for me. Thought I might try a Granny Smith with cheese. What time of day did you eat them?
I have this also. I fine when mold is high in my body it brings this out in my body. Maybe try to kill mold in the body.
Judy you are the best 😊 many love from malaysia
I wish you well 🤗
Love it thank you so much to both
This is great! 👍
Thank you both very much
Elliot, what if you’re already a few weeks into eating carnivore and didnt ease out oxalates? Now I’m a but nervous of getting hit by nasty dumping. Ive ordered calcium citrate and B1 and B-complex. Added potassium bicarbonate. Should any of this be helpful in easing down possible dumping affects? I’m sure many people jumped to carnivore and werent aware of the oxalates issue, but with all these videos are being made aware of it now after the fact.
Should we eat some low amount of oxalate/veggies now even though many of us jumped feet-first into carnivore? Thanks.
Same
Sally k Norton says lemon juice is a must it binds ox instead of going they your kidneys in elimination
If I was to take for example super beets supplements powder, would this supplement powder have oxalates in them.great show Thank you
awesome! Learnt so much. Thanks!
This is me, went carnivore almost killed myself, discovered I have oxalate toxicity.
If you've destroyed your gut flora you may not be able to deal with oxalates:
"Oxalobacter formigenes and Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species are the best studied in this regard, with oxalate degradation in the lactic acid bacteria being both species- and strain-specific."
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20602988/
@@EONutrition I saw that interview a few days ago. Sally, was the predominant speaker.
Great talk, thank you
I am one of those patients that conventional medicine wasn’t working.
Ok that’s a lot to take in.
