These interviews have been a revelation! I didn't know Mr. Short played the guitar, very nice! And you play bass? I'd like to see it here if you'd ever meet to play, and please, one Beatles' song!

Nigel short played the guitar during one of the rounds in the No Logo Norway chess tournament. Maybe there is a video somewhere.

I am almost certain that Nigel had previously seen a game in a chess book between German Master Teichman and a strong consulting team of 5 or 6 players. every time his opponents guessed the next move to their surprise Teichman only moves his king one step up the board and his opponents resigned in the same fashion as Nigel Short vs Jan Timman. When I saw the games of short & Timman I thought it was the same game I knew from that book.
I wish I still had that book so I could look it up again.

If someone asked me:"If you hadn't been a chessplayer, what would you have become in life?", I would answer: "...a bum?" LOL

Well spoken Nigel!! Just because there is a Mafia in football doesn't mean we have to continue having it in chess. Kasparov will be good for the future of chess.

Although it is said that Kasparov was irritating to his opponents, I notice that N. Short, A. Karpov, H. Nakamura and many other great figures of chess support him for the chess federation with such passion. I 'd like someone to expain me why is that and why is it so important. I can't find sources to learn about this matter that sees so important!

Unfortunately, when you take control of an organisation out of sensible European hands and allow every tin-pot dictatorship in the world to have an equal vote in its administration, you get rule by bribe, and shamelessly corrupt presidents. Same thing happened to FIFA.

Ard Beg Plz, I 'd like to enlighten me on the matter more crearly and thoroughly

Μπέλλος Δημήτριος It is not so much the point of Kasparov being the best possible leader for the federation, but the danger of continuing a culture within the chess federation of blatant bribery. The current leader has shown over many years that he is incapable of running the organisation other than time and time again being rescued by his "friends" from his political career. It would be naive to think that there is no money or favors changing hands when time and time again events are awarded to obscure organisers when tested and competent organisers are not even allowed to apply or get downright ignored. Kasparov will open up the organisation and give much more transparency into the inner workings of FIDE and that is why almost every country/chessplayer are hoping for a Kasparov win. There are unfortunately quite a few countries and officials with a proven history of bribery that will vote for the sitting president though, so nothing is sure.
The reason people are so passionate about the election is based mostly on 2 different points. The first being the danger of chess continuing to downward spiral like the last few years into a more and more niche sport. This means less money, less sponsorships and less likelyhood of the players being able to sustain a living from playing professionally. Now there will always be the top 10 players who have private sponsorships and support from their own countries federation or government, but as you can see from the chess olympiad it is a truly international sport that should be able to sustain a larger playerbase as professionals. The second reason is the current leaders inability to arrange the next world championship match or getting it sponsored. If you as the leader of FIDE cannot market your own main event to sponsors or organisers, you have to find a job you can handle.

Cool, Nigel votes for the big K! Consider how many youth chess programs Kasparov had helped to promote in recent years and how many countries across the world Kasparov had tried to help to make competitive chess more popular (Africa, Asia and developed countries such as USA), I believe the big K will bring brighter future for FIDE. Plus, isn't it too cool to have a wolrd champion FIDE president who is really deldicated to promote chess all around the world and make top level chess tournaments more frequent?
PS: Don't understand how could FIDE recently add online rating column on players FIDE profile pages. Online chess and something like correspondence chess never completely represent players' real level since in most games which are not played in OTB or face-to-face games, players have too many ways to get help from outside. A player with online rating 2400 can be someone with a rating 1800 in real world. Non sense move for current FIDE.

Look i am poor, never worked, i have social phobia, ocd, lpr which will choke me to death one day, you dont need to be rude to those unfortunate in life. :(
