    I can remember back then when some showcases didn't have a car or a trip in them. I can't believe how much cars were back then. Of course I grew up in the 1970's. I never paid attention to cars back then. How much things are with the price is right has changed. Great memories.

    Back then until April 1974, there was no double showcase rule in the early run so contestants who were off by $250 ($99 from 1974 to 1998) or less only get their own showcases. Nighttime version does not have the rule until the price is right at night.

      The original rule was you had to be less than $100 away from the actual retail price of your own showcase in order to win both of them.

    A combined value of $6,610 for a car, a speedboat, ski equipment and 2 week chalet vacation.
    Truly was a different world. You'd pay more than half of that for 4 Premium BF Goodrich tires today.

      That was a $50,000 prize...it was not like spending $6600 today..Rememebr you made $1 per hour back then! Car wasnt even top of the line just a lower priced compact car,yes those were compact cars!
      So 4 tires cost you $50,000 today,wow you get ripped off..

      Gas was the same price then as it is today and the $6600 is $50,000 in todays money..$6600 was a lot of money especially making $1 per hour and $2 for a trade of professional white collar job.

      People dont understand this..They think the price then was like us spending the same amount today..Thing is $6600 then was $50,000 in todays dollars,$6600 was a lot of money back then as it was $50,000...Gas also was the same price as today,gas was never cheap!
