  • A day off piste skiing while taking photos. We hiked along a ridge from Hohtalli then ski toured up to the Stockhorn peak before skiing down the Findeln Glacier. Some cool opportunities to take photos.
SPOILER ALERT: The grand finale photo did not work out well.

Thanks Adrian. I know you’d appreciate the fact that I carried the 70-200 all the way round without getting it out the bag too. 😂

Quite the mini adventure, 'epic" can be justified in its use too I think. Rather you than me on that ridge thanks! What a location 🙌🔥

      Thanks Simon. Really appreciate it.
I usually try to avoid hyperbole so I think epic might be overstating it, but I guess it’s all relative. 😂

Paul, that ridge was insane. Great video with stunning photographs. It's too bad about the last one, maybe next time. Thank you for sharing.

That opening sequence is just wonderfuil.. crisp white snow, mountains and sunshine. I have never skied (I would be hopeless trust me) but I have friends who love it and I envy the fact they can do it - the you start to ski and I was literally looking for the stop button. Like Chris I don't do heights and looking at that made me feel nauseous. The rest of it was totally stunning and thoughroughly enjoyable. Some stunning images Paul. Have to say that is one of the best videos I have seen in a while. Well done all. atb Al

That looks great! What kind of lens would you recommend?
I'm currently looking around for a lens to take on a ski touring trip to Lyngen. I was thinking about the Nikon 28-300 mm, but together with a D850 probably hindering the camera instead of supporting it.
Right now I own and might bring a Irix 11mm, the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 but would like to reduce to one lens if possible or atleast one with a bit more focal length.
Haven't done it before, so not quiite sure what's sensible in terms of optical performance and weight.
    Cheers from Switzerland

Hi Philip. I have the 28-300 lens and I think the versatility might actually make up for the loss in quality.
Personally, I find I either shoot wide or with the telephoto. I have the 14-24 (and a 20mm prime when I want to save weight) and I rarely go out without the 70-200 2.8. Between those focal ranges, I only have a 50mm prime. I don't own the standard 24-70 and I don't often feel I miss it. Certainly not enough to carry the extra weight?
I've been ski touring in Lyngen a couple of times and I'd definitely recommend something wide. Big vistas are amazing there.
Not sure that answers your question? Maybe the 11mm and whatever else you feel comfortable with?

@@summitpaul Thanks for your answer. Probably gonna rent the 28-300 and the 70-200 f2.8 and do a test tour to see how i like the lenses and what i would prefere for such trips and activities.

@@WaechterDerNacht careful. The 70-200 2.8 is so good that you won’t want to give it back. Expensive and heavy but so so good. 😂
