    P.S.: Patrols on difficulty 6 nowadays spawn FASTER than it previously did on HELLDIVE difficulty
    to give a better idea of how steep the change was
    Difficulty 5 now is just slightly slower than what helldive used to be (for solo players)

      Why is the assumption that this was done on purpose? The patch notes indicate that the new patrol timers are a mistake and the intent is that the timers should scale with number of players. If anything it being a mistake makes more sense given Arrowhead's goofs in the past.

      I KNEW diff 6 was broken. A few times the spawn rate (bug breaches) of bugs completelly overwhelmed us. Once the team starts dying, you're just reinforcing into a meat grinder.

      you're one of the hardcore solo players I've seen in HD2 though it got me curious, have you played HD1 in Difficulty 15 "Inner Circle of hell"? because as what I can see with the spawn rate for the scouts it's somewhat in the right range for Difficulty 9 in HD1, the only problem I can see is we lack the equipment to deal with such enemies is my issue here, hoping the modular system that AH is planning to add in HD2 fixes this concern because in HD1 once you have a fully upgraded primary it does make a whole lot of difference with its performance🤔

    Frankly, it's silly that destroying bug holes and fabricators increases enemy spawn rate.
    You would think the incentive should be to take them out in order to reduce the pressure on you.

      It's been a retarded metric since forever. You do anything on the map and the entire match gets harder. Destroying fabricators should drop difficulty. Or at least reduce random spawn rates. You're literally destroying their ability to produce units. Call in reinforcements from around the planet all you want, but stop spawning enemies out of thin air like a biznatch.

    Finding out the main balancer is the same dude who fucked up the Hello Neighbor games really opened my eyes regarding this game. I now understand why the weapons are randomly balanced why the missions were poorly balanced, and why there seems to be some variety of "how could they do this" crisis with every update. ArrowHead NEEDS to fire this idiot, he's poison to whatever his incompetence touches and he has the history to prove it.

      Yeah... this is why I don't believe the QA team plays on the higher end difficulties. The QC is mid if EVERYONE has it where as before it was functional even if only ONE person had it. You could use it for more than just trying to delete a heavy target... which it now can apparently only do once every 20 seconds or so at best? Seems broken alright.... now make sure to deal with the other 3 heavy targets before the next wave shows up in 4 seconds (because you spent most of that cooldown time charging up the blast)

      And phantom spawns. I LITERALLY had a group of hunters materialize in front of me as I was running to extraction. What was the point if that? There's no skill issue on that - it's just bad cheese.

      Yep, now if you get in trouble it's impossible to get away to get breathing room to call in ammo. You just run until you eventually die, then it drops you directly back on the exact same location.... to die again 😊

      i dont even consider them patrols any more, the groups go STRAIGHT to you. before you might here a patrol in the distance and avoid. now you see you have enemies converging on you in all directions.

    It's actually frustrating that they're not focusing on fixing the glitches and bugs. Just last night my squad ran into an issue where we couldn't get into the pelican. Full clear with all the samples and survived extract just for the pelican to land and we couldn't get in. That's 40 minutes of my life that i can't get back and have nothing to show for it. I stopped playing last night because of that and i'm not sure i want to come back anytime in the foreseeable future because of it.
    One of the things that i like to do is be the one solo player on the other side of the map looking for samples and mopping up poi's. ESPECIALLY if there is a radar station that reveals all the poi locations. That is my favorite way to play the game. I still play with 4 people, it's just more efficient to split up.
    Arrowhead really needs to clean house. Whoever is responsible for stabbing this game to death with these patches needs to be fired. The game needs to be reverted back to release day balancing. And their insane vendetta against the players that don't play EXACTLY the way that they want you to play needs to stop.

      @@fourthknower9831 There are like only 100 employees in AH but not all of them are developers. I saw a post in reddit that confirms that AH does not have enough people to make a dedicated team in one system like balance, content, bugs. and more. If they want to prioritize bug fixing, new content or balance they would need to pull some people like from different position to help them out but would result for something to slow down like only few people would be working on new content or balance if they focus on bug fixing at that time.

      Alexus is the main balance dev. He is a hire from the (arguably) failed hello neighbor and hello neighbor 2. In his previous job he removes fan favorite features for the sequel as well as removing marketed features that people where looking forward to. He is the main problem. No ifs ands or buts, he needs to go.

    This game had done what no game has done before. They came out swinging with a super fun game FIRST. THEN, with each patch they took OUT the FUN one at a time until it became the biggest disappointing frustrating blue ball experience ever. Its like they decided to do what all the other studios do these days, but reverse! Like usually the notorious studios will hype the game up to shit and come out with dirt. But this studio came out with a banger, then they somehow keep making it worse and taking Ls one by one, like each patch is so unbelievably disconnected from their massive audience. What a wild studio. What’s so irritating is its like the biggest tease, it’s like here is FUN! Now heres a little less…And now heres a little less…And now here’s a little less…And n-ETC. Anyways congratulations to Arrowhead on finding a new path to the fire dumpster where all studios seemingly eventually end up these days. Sigh, so sad.

    I'm the author of the Patrol Analyses and Luchs is a close friend of mine. We're glad to see this getting some attention from the bigger channels and really appreciate the shout out.
    Hopefully Arrowhead will at least address this change and confirm/deny whether this is even their intended result.
    We love the game but think AH is making a lot of unforced errors and hope they can get on a better track.

    When I first started playing this game, I could wear scout armor and sneak past patrols if I wanted to. Now it seems like they aren't patrols anymore, they know your exact location and come straight to you.

    It should be the other way around
    4 player more enemies
    1 player less enemies
    Remember that Alexus killed Hello Neighbor 2 by making it challenging, and himself didn't try the game after his "Touch Up".
    Same goes as Helldiver 2, he never tried to SOLO Helldive difficulty and his answer to community question was "Skill Issue" or "Get good". I think he do this just to be petty for his HN2 failure.
    We should make a petition to change Alexus from the balancing team.

    Let’s be real AH got lucky and released a very fun game initially. That game was what gave them popularity and prestige. However it was all on accident. You know how I know because after the very first patch it has lost fun.
    Also every time they make a change they always follow it with an explanation of how this is how they originally wanted it to work. Let’s face it AH caught lightning in a bottle by accident and instead of going the fun route what players want they are going to kill their game to make the game into their vision. Just watch.

His design philosophy is "too many players are enjoying this weapon, so let's nerf it into the ground."

    The whole design philosophy around the destruction of bug holes and bot factories somehow attributing to more enemies makes no sense and is frankly stupid. What is the point of the mission if doing the main and secondary objectives as well as sealing bug holes and bot factories just contributes more enemies? I think people would be less upset about this change if completing tasks and destroying the enemy's assembly points brought the level of patrols and enemies down, it would give people an even bigger incentive to do everything. But it's the direct opposite.
    My girlfriend and I have stopped playing this because it seems the "balancing" maniac behind all of this is hellbent (no pun intended), on making everything unfun. We used to spend a couple hours after work together every day playing this duo, but now it feels like more work to play it than any actual fun with all the "balancing" changes of weapons and then having this piled on top. Like Christ, it's a PVE game, there is absolutely no need to make every weapon and aspect of the game unfun and bland. But I guess it's of no surprise, after doing a bit more research into the balancing team, I've found that Alexus Kravchenko, the man who is single handedly the one who destroyed Hello Neighbour 2, is the one balancing this game. The dude needs to be removed from the game altogether, otherwise there is a chance HD2 will share the same fate as Hell Neighbour 2.

      I tried to find out the statistics about online of Hello Neighbour (both 1 and 2), And it seems like it wasn't popular since the beginning 1500 gamers is the max for the first game and 700 for the Second part. Why so many people speak about that?

      Im a Deep rock galactic player ,not a Helldivers 2 one, so pardon me If I’m missing something, but If the devs want the action to increase over the course of the match, why don‘t they just increase the amount of bugs that spawn at the next bug breach every time you take one out?
      The enemies know that you’re targeting the bug breaches after you destroy the first one and thus station more guards at the next one. and The more breaches you take out, the less they have to spread out their troops; meaning that they can pool them around the remaining bug breach.
      Those bug breaches are the main way of reinforcement for them, yes? Defending them with the remaining arsenal left you have makes much more narrative and gameplay sense then thinning out your troops even further after you’ve already been attacked by sending everyone on patrol.
      For example, in Deep Rock Galactic, there are these things that spawn as a mission modifier called Lithopage meteorites.
      These will stun you and continually send bugs and special enemies your way until you remove them, and they‘re one of the main mission objectives. Cleaning these spots will spawn a big wave of enemies that you have to take down, but once they‘re sealed, those special enemies will be gone from the mission entirely, making the big waves of enemies that spawn normally easier.
      Another thing I could compare the bug breaches to would be the egg collection missions.
      In these, a set amount of alien eggs spawn in the walls that you have to collect to complete the objective. Every time you dig one out, either a small or large swarm gets spawned. Taking them means furthering the mission, but the more eggs you collect, the more likely you are to activate a large swarm. On the plus side, large swarms don’t spawn on this mission type otherwise, so you can plan around when you’ll choose to fight the bugs.
      In both of these examples, taking down the bug breach similar objectives furthers your goal: taking down the meteorites lessens the difficulty other swarms will have later in the mission. Digging out alien eggs will come with a known danger, but further your quota progress.
      The way the bug breaches work now sounds to me like if you cleaned out a Lithopage meteorite, but instead of that lessening the danger you will have to face when the next swarm comes, all the Lithopage bugs just get added to the swarm pool for the rest of the mission. Why would I take down the meteorites then? (Other than the fact that it’s mandatory.) Better to have the bugs in one spot where you know they will pose a danger if approached, than to increase the swarm size for the entire mission. It just sounds unintuitive?
      Of course, this difference in experience could also be because DRGs devs are pretty generous about balancing. The last time the community got upset about weapon balancing was, ironically, the railgun, because a modification lost a lot of its crowd clear potential.
      Point being, I feel like there are a lot of ways you could approach this kind of objective while also making progress feel rewarding. What do you think?

    I do not understand how destroying outposts and bug nests increases the patrol rate. You'd think it'd be the opposite, considering we're destroying their ways of easily reinforcing the area. There's no point in destroying the nests and outposts aside from the xp, req slips, and the funny little stars at the end screen because of this. When you're maxed out on slips, and there's no reason to continue leveling up due to having all stratagems already unlocked, there REALLY is no point. They should make it to where going out of your way to destroy these actually helps you when completing the main objective by reducing the patrol rates.

If it’s that easy for them to saturate the zone with forces WITHOUT their structures supporting the growth in numbers, what’s the point in destroying any of them?

      @@Headlock123456789 I mean I get it-- Heat is from outside the zone; the fabs aren't the ones building the tanks, hulks, ATSTs, or Devs; they're basically small troop barracks and light infrastructure.
      I think it makes sense that the more chaos you make in their infrastructure the more opposition you face as the mission gets longer and ground reinforcement has longer to reach your position from a logistics standpoint

    I have passed the comment before that the game should NOT be linear difficulty as the more players there is, the more niches can be filed and, in the context of coop, 1+1=/=2. A solo peron can only be in one place, cover one angle and has to carry a generalist build to be abble the deal with all threats. In my opinion, having been a team player in almost every game (the medic, the support gunner, etc...) a team of two can do the work of three, a team of three can do the work of five and a team of four can do the work of seven. For each player interaction added, it is usually worth the power of an aditionnal person. This would be a good balance imo.

    I thought it was super interesting to note that, like you mentioned, harder solo does make that content more of a badge of honor, or something that makes your videos stand out as the achievement requires a ton of skill and practice. And after stumbling on your videos, it was your suggestions and methods that encouraged me to try solo helldive difficulty and it was fun (pre patch of course). It was super challenging and honestly I lost at least half the time, but being able to succeed at all and note how implementing your strategies and being more methodical allowed me to do so meant it was possible and I had room for growth.
    Since the patch, I had to drop to 8 and then 7 and then 6 difficulty because I do absolutely get caught in infinite patrol spawns. I just can't keep up and I see the clock counting down before I even manage to get one objective done let alone the full match.
    The fact that when you split off from your group means there are multiple patrols spawning on each of you makes so much sense now in hindsight, because when playing duos with my friend he was getting his ass kicked because we were both dealing with a horrifying number of enemies separately, something we didn't see before if I ran off on my own to do a quick side objective.
    All in all thanks for vocalizing your feelings because it's validating to me as someone who knew something felt off but didn't have the data or research to prove it.

    I'm so confused. They had a licence to print money. The game was fine, I don't know which vindictive person is pushing these balances.
    Example - back when the distance of the arc thrower got reduced, it received increased stagger. Take something, give something. As of the last patch, or the one before, it does no longer stun hulks, guess how I found THAT one out last night. It means that my strategy of stepping in to protect my team in case the big bots get too close is no longer viable.
    Also, YES, I AM STILL SALTY it no longer opens container doors 😂
    Every balance since then has always had a sour taste to it. Like one or two useful things, and then a whole bunch of negatives.
    It's just getting less and less fun.

      Their balancing team and QA team are finishing with Sony started. My crew that we played with every day just got too frustrated and everybody left and moved on and I unfortunately am having to do the same thing. I should be able to solo if I want and not be murdered for it. Again this is like destiny to me if you don't have a group and a clan you're fucked for endgame

      I've been using other weapons now, its actually quite refreshing to play more unique styles. I've been doing the juggernaut build with heavy machine gun, the new concussive submachine gun, and riot shield. In heavy armor. Stun grenade + machine gun into eye = dead hulk. But I think the sniper might be more useful than the heavy machine gun

      I played on difficulty 8 with 3 randoms. All of them left. The spawn rate didn't change a bit. I swear to god. It was completely impossible to finish that round. There spawned like 5 bile titans an once and about 6 chargers chased me around the whole map. Ridiculous...

    I agree with everything that is said in that video and kudos for the tone you used to pass on your arguments. I've seen many channels (not necessarily HD2 related) where its just mostly negative stuff day after day (as if they live from the negativity) but you clearly want to hang on the positive despite this. Really respect you and love your channel for it.
    In my case, I play solo. I am mostly an introvert and playing with randoms kinda "scare" me. It would only take a few matches with trolls that it would put me off the game entirely... I did buy HD2 knowing it was a coop game but saw enough ppl playing solo that I thought it was viable and it indeed was and I was having lots of fun with it. I went as high as level6, was thinking of trying 7 but then I am down to 4 and made it by the skin of my teeth. I was doing a SEAF artillery and I was getting endlessly swarmed it was crazy, could barely load a round that I had another patrol at me and oh god the extract after clearing the map, it wasn't fun anymore. It went from "holy sh1t a charger! Its getting intense!" to "Damn a charger and ahh c'mon another behind it, and I see a 3rd one moving towards the area and I got a ton of hunters on me and one just called its friends, gimme a break..." So I shelved the game for now, will wait a bit until this gets more under control.
    Let me have fun while solo. Let those in groups of 4 also have fun. You don't need to push me into groups, it's more stressful for me. I play because I love splatting bugs all over, blowing bots and just owning and kicking a$$. It's nice to have pressure too and keep the fighting tense, but when you can't breath between fights and just be defensive all the time, it gets much less enjoyable.
    Your last video with what, 17 bile titans.... Don't need to say more. (ok it was level9 but when you need to spawn the boss 17 times.... something is not right).

      Totally agree. I have social anxiety as well, bought the game knowing it’s a coop game, but was having fun playing solo. Now I rarely play simply because the game isn’t fun for me anymore, not much to say here.

    This change absolutely needs to be reverted. I used to be able to play duo with a friend on helldive difficulty (because we NEVER get randoms joining on that high). Now if we play duo, we have to give up on the idea of extraction and beeline the main objective for a CHANCE to complete it before the 14 chargers and 70000000 hunters take us down in rapid succession.
    It would have been less problematic if you could consistently get 4 person groups with the matchmaking, but you dont. If you want to play higher difficulties, you are almost always restricted to your friend group who is free that night.

    I really appreciate you making this video for the average player. I love watching your videos because I feel like I learn something every one I watch and it's refreshing to watch someone better than me be successful at high difficulties.
    I started playing the game when it first came out with 3 other friends and, as time has gone on, those friends have slowly stopped playing. I still enjoy the game, but I never had any intention of playing solo above like difficulty 5 or 6 before these changes. It's just not how I enjoy playing. But now I can barely play solo on difficulty 4, if that. I'm a pretty casual gamer now and I really enjoy Helldivers 2, but man it's just honestly an unenjoyable time anytime I load up the game recently, because I have only like one friend to play with and have no interest in playing with randoms that will potentially troll or sell aspects of a mission.
    These changes are objectively not good for longevity and player retention, unless Arrowhead is keeping some information from us that's going to essentially override these changes and make the game more playable in the future for anyone playing in less than a 4 player party. I thought the game had a fair shot at being game of the year, even though we're early in 2024, but man, they've made some really questionable moves recently that can seemingly only hurt them.

    Dude, THANK YOU for saying this. I agree with everything 1000% and have been saying the same things you have. It’s absolutely reductive to enjoyment when you punish the player base for not having full stacks. It really feels like the changes are so devoid of logic that it’s just purely pernicious. The devs that play the game play on diff 5-6 and get washed in 3 player groups, see someone clear a solo Helldive using a meta and rigid loadout just to survive, then make changes with trembling, closed fists to make people playing the game with smaller groups miserable and exacerbating the “meta.”
    It’s really killed my enjoyment of the game because I play with a smaller group of friends, mostly only one or sometimes two at a time, and rarely keep a full stack for long. I also don’t like mixing friends with randoms in operations, because I prefer to have consistent coordination. These options are nice, and if they didn’t want it- they could disable playing with less than 4 players. Why should I be punished for what the game allows me to do for preferred play?
    We don’t play the game as often as we used to anymore because running the same difficulties of 7+ is absolute misery. You never get a break in the patrols and defending extraction is not happening- your samples will not make it to Pelican 1, so it feels like a waste of time for the players that don’t need the medals or requisition. Knowing that full-clearing makes the issue worse also keeps us from doing things the game should be encouraging us to do.
    Point is, we play the game much more conditionally now, and it’s annoying us. We love the game, but it’s abusive when it punishes us for not playing the way the devs want us to.

      Currently lvl 7 bugs is managable even with 3 people, with full squad it is almost easy) Yesterday I managed to complete and successfully evac from lvl 7 mission with only one teammate due other dudes had constant disconnects and eventually not returned. So we done 2/3 of the 'rocket launch' missions in duo, and even managed to evac alive in emergency evac. But is was reeeeeally hard due to ridiculously small delay between spawns on 'evac' phase of the game.

    my brother and i primarily duo, the most fun we've had in years. now after this change and killing off some of our favorite weps it went from "how many missions can we squeeze in tonight?" to "i'm good after this one mission". doing a level 8 bot last night with heavy devastator seed, its not that we couldnt beat the mission, its just any time we clear out an objective and start working on it we see 2 more large groups of patrols heading our way. its a slog and even our stratagems cant keep up. on top of that i now need to take a load out i don't enjoy so we can be successful. its not about dropping down to a lower diff, level 8 was a good challenge for us and we liked our load outs. Arrow head didnt agree :(.
    PS. polar patriots wtf kinda premium warbond is this??

      I feel ya. There's no excuse for the difficulty not being linear in a 1-4 player game.
      Like most players I only enjoy coop with my friends, and among the 5 who own the game it's rare that schedules line up for more than 1 or 2 of us to play at a time.
      Without the number of players being attached to spawn scaling finding a difficulty setting in that sweet spot has become way harder than it should be, and now the majority of our games are either too easy or too hard.
      Really pathetic watching Arrowhead devs break something they already had working.

      I feel that "I'm good after this one mission". Me and my friend used to play for hours at a time and it was always "Oh man look at the time I HAVE to get off, but just one more mission", now its "oh look we've been playing for an hour, lets take a break huh?" and then like don't even get back on that day most of the time. It used to feel fun to face the bots now it feels like we're getting slaughtered. Half the time we can't even extract, and sometimes we can't even get the mission done simply because every time we try to get there we are fighting multiple armies that require us to use ALL stratagems, and most or all our stims, grenades, and ammo. Now to be fair we're not exactly super amazing gamers, we're pretty average I would say, but it feels like if we are being punished for trying to play with our friends and not queue up with randoms.

      Totally, 1 solo Tier 7 mission and I’m stressed and exhausted now. I’m 345 hours in and have no idea how I got there. I can’t do more than 40 minutes a night now and I’m pretty much “yeah that’s enough”. And extracting with Samples is more often a pie in the sky dream now….

      @@adamcline8728 The difficulty already wasn't linear for less than four players. Outposts had the same amount of enemies, no matter how many people. Fixed spawns always had the same amount of enemies spawning. Primary objectives always take the same amount of time or numbers to complete. The only thing that solo play had going over group play was, that the map was a little easier to traverse.

    I enjoy getting seriously challenged and losing half of the time, but I am well aware that my kind of play can be frustrating for others, that's why I play solo. The change doesn't bother me that much but getting super samples is really tough now. I would love to see more difficulties added to the game. If the game was as challenging in a group, I would gladly suffer with strangers

    Look, I'm not good at this game. So when I solo run missions, I'm on Medium difficulty. And I was averaging around 280-300 kills per mission. Now? 580-600. It DOUBLED the number of enemies for MEDIUM difficulty missions.

      My brother and I duo on levels 4 to 7, and after this change the swarms of enemies have gotten insane. Even with scout armor and trying to dodge patrols, everything just gets drawn in when we have to start a fight to get an objective done. Then as we approach the extraction zone, it's already got 2 or 3 patrols walking THROUGH the landing pad, and a few more walking toward it from a distance. We haven't done a level 7 difficulty in a while now.

    I really enjoy your content, keep it up. I feel like the problem isnt only the patrol rate, but the amount of bugs that spawn each breach (same on bots), from looking at your gameplay and the few times I had to complete missions solo due to disconnect bug, the amount of enemies spawned hardly differs from solo to 4 man (usually around 60-100 bugs either way) only heavies being a bit lower rate at best. (though OhDough in recent video getting 2 Factory Striders in a sinlge drop as solo player...). With how aoe, ammo and CDs work, its much easier as a group to clear a breach, even with 1-2 more titans and some extra chargers. This was kinda compensated by the lower patrol rate so giving the solo player more time to clear the potential breach, before the next patrol moves on in with the rest calling the next breach the moment the current is over. Even the old rates hit the spot just fine, being a harder experience than 3-4 man squads by a lot, I dont think the people behind the change ever played helldive solo, because if they did they would know it was already the hardest you could play the game at, nearly impossible to do a full clear. I hope they reverse this change.

    Hey Takibo, I want to thank you for your inspiring videos to solo play. I can easily pull 1k+ kills per mission now. My record so far is 1164 kills per mission but I average barely above 1k. In total so far, I managed hit over 221k in kills since launch. The new spawn rate definitely made it feel like its starship trooper vibes, bugs and bots coming out of nowhere from every direction, every 10-12 seconds. Scary but cool at the same time!

    Being split up is really really strong, most of the time when I'm playing with friends on 9 we spread across the map.
    Example: 1 person to launch codes, 1 person to generator, 1 person to fuel, one person clearing side objectives and nests near the missile. Everyone does the stuff near them and you get done in around 15 minutes with 5 stars 😂

    So getting consistently overrun by Terminids at extraction even on Suicide mission, where my squad of 3 was fine before wasn't just us somehow sucking more all of a sudden.
    A patrol every 10 seconds, or even 12 or even 20 is complete and utter insanity, difficulty be damned.
    It contradics their stated intention that primaries are not supposed to be able to deal with heavy enemies if they spawn 10 times as fast as the strategems we are "supposed" to use to deal with them come off cooldown.

      I used to spend a few hours a night on HD2 but between the solo changes, the crashes, still getting kicked for just existing on the map, I've loaded up State of Decay 2 and have been spending time on that instead, oh and gunpla, I've gotten back in to gunpla.
      Thank you HD2 for helping me rediscover the joys of building gundams, something i stopped doing about a decade ago because I got way more in to games.

      This is exactly how I feel about even level 7 difficulty. Before, I could MAYBE get out with my super samples and barely complete the primary objectives with 0-1 respawn available. It was VERY difficult, and I was probably level 40 with excellent accuracy and map awareness/resource management.
      Now? I don't bother, because it's just me fighting patrols and bug breeches for 15 minutes at a time, dying, losing my support weapon/pack, running away while continuing to have an option to kill 7-12 mobs with an airstrike every 2 minutes.
      I can't think of a better way to spend my free time. 😎👍

      Stop playing higher difficulties on solo. Its a team game, squad up or drop in with randoms. I'm over 200 hours in and only play with randoms and have everything unlocked and purchased with tons of samples stockpiled for when they release something new. Less than 1% of my plays have I had problems with randoms.

    Thank you for bringing it up! Now I fully understand how it changed after the patch. I used to be able to solo clear lv. 9 bugs and lv. 8 bots. I wonder what I can do now with those changes implemented. For me playing on helldive solo was already an impossible task on bots missions and and a very difficult task on bugs missions. Well I guess it is time to see how far I can push now.

    HD2 is an extremely rare example of a game that was pretty much perfect at launch but got absolutely ruined in the months after. most weapons and stratagems got nerfed into the ground, the difficulty was steadily increased, and nowadays every second match I play ends in a crash / freeze / connection error. It's really sad because this game had so much potential. It's also somewhat fascinating from a pure development stupidity standpoint. I didn't think it was possible to create sort of a "reverse Cyberpunk 2077" cycle.

      This game was in no fucking way perfect at launch LOL. There was maybe a 2 or even 3 week collective, not in a row, where the game was decent and not stupid buggy and even then the overall balance of the game was STILL bad. From start to finish, this game has terrible developer support.

      The balance at the first month of the game was absolutely terrible. It was nowhere near perfect or "almost perfect". There was only like 3 primary weapons you could feasibly use and antitank weapons sucked so much dick that the railgun was all we had, which then proceeded to get nerfed bcuz a significant portion of the community are braindead 5 and below difficulty players, on top of the idiot balance lead dev. For those who remember launch month, this is insane to hear someone say.

    "Who was this change for?" Nobody. This change was for nobody. Arrowhead's state reason was literally "we felt like it". I can't find the specific tweet, but it's literally because "we felt maps were a little empty".

      People suggested it would be cool if we could have more urban environments so the maps seem less desolate and instead of doing that they decided to just populate the map with enemies. Less empty is less empty...right?

    My theory is that they want to push towards 4 player play for eventual microtransactions like weapon skins and color palettes since those are psychologically more effective with other players in front of you (with their stuff to entice you to spend) specially with the liberty-bucks or something down the line (different than super credits).

    I can see both sides in this situation. From a gameplay/fun perspective it really sucks. It makes no sense. But from a LORE perspective, it makes sense. Helldivers are supposed to dive in a squad of 4 in the zones which have missions to accomplish. So a solo helldiver on a mission is not lore accurate so they make the mission harder to show a guy shouldn’t dive alone in a hostile planet. But well.. hope for proper balance.

    I also want to repeat that 1 player is less than 25% as strong as 4 players, so even if the intended change had worked correctly it would not be fair exactly. Boosters stack, stratagem cooldowns can be rotated, firepower is more concentrated, you can cover more of the map, you can use some of the less powerful but interesting stratagems, enemy attention is split, and deaths decrease your firepower loss less the more players there are.

      That's true except I would say deaths don't have to decrease your firepower more as a solo player.
      If you don't rely on a support weapon, you don't have to run back to your last death location.
      Last helldive I did: eagle cluster bomb, orbital airburst, orbital precision strike, orbital smoke screen.
      Damn have I learned how strong smoke is recently.

      The only thing solo play ever had going for it was a bit of an easier map traversal. Because outposts always have the same amount of enemies, primary objectives don't change numbers, like you still need to save 30 people on helldive. You need the same kills for Eradicate. You need to hit that drill three times and always spawn the exact same amount of enemies, no matter if it's 1 or 4 players.

      @@kamikeserpentail3778 Sure you don't need to run back to your last death location. But so often I have noticed, that the game kinda forces you into a death loop. Like even with advanced steering you often times can't get far enough away. Especially when you triggered something like gun ships. If you die to them, you are just shit out of luck, because you get dropped again too soon for them to reset, so they immediately aggro on you again.

      Yeah, from their first notes about what they wanted to change, it read like they wanted to make it some kind of light grenade launcher in terms of impact, instead of that fragmentation. But then it jus... kinda got turned into a very mediocre bolt action rifle.

    I mostly duo with a friend, and now my enjoyment of the game is diminished quite a bit. At least I got 130 hours or so.
    For solo, 1/6th honestly sounds about right. You may think, "1/4th, right?" Yet, you don't get any synergy bonus. Two people are more than twice the firepower of one person, because they can watch multiple angles, split sightlines, cover one another while reloading, and so on. I'm willing to give that up and just take the 1/4th. Yet, that is not what we got.

      The thing I hate the most about the change is that arrowhead is again pushing the meta. When I play solo, I want to have an enjoyable time. 4 solo is usually still not a huge problem, but it's really not that enjoyable anymore when I try to take out an old loadout I haven't tried in a while.

      Best part is everybody is expecting, and some even calling for, nerfs to guns like the Breaker Incendiary. For many it’s the only thing we have that keeps us alive even at lower tiers. Making even that less effective in current conditions will almost certainly be ‘game over’ for a big part of the player base. That gun is good, but really not game breaking at all.

      ​@nubbins70 yeah, I played 4-5 solo pretty regularly and 5-6 was a big challenge for me. Now if i want to enjoy solo basically have to play 3 or maybe 4. I work a rotating swing shift so I go from days to nights regularly so friends aren't really an option and honestly after working 12 hours and then taking care of my kids and chores I want the experience I was having playing solo... not whatever the fuck it is now.

    From the wording of their update the devs very clearly stated they intended for 1 player to receive only 1/4th the patrols as 4 would rather than 1/6th. The current spawn rates are for sure bugged and not working as intended as they're all the same currently regardless of player count in the mission.
    Also you appear to not know something about patrols I assume seeing as you mainly seem to play solo. In multiplayer lobbies while the players are spread out the patrols are not evenly distributed so if everyone is spread out 1 player can get all 4 patrols while the other 3 can get none, it's all rng. There's also a cap on how many enemy units can be active at one time, so eventually patrols and enemy alerts will stop spawning entirely if the player engage and kites enemies without killing them or letting them lose aggro and despawn.

    personally I absolutely hate it when devs try and force you into group play. Why do I get punished for doing things solo, when in my experience, games, that have group play, are always harder solo.

    Imagine you spawn in with three people and two drop their connection. This happened to me last night. I lost my super samples due to a pack of 60 hunters. (Literally 60 hunters not exaggerating) I was insta-killed and lost the mission and the samples. Arrowhead has to revert back to non-linear scaling of patrols. They of all people should know that people are not linear and our fun isnt an equation. Chaos (Entropy) is literally what makes this game so fun!

Having the ego that you "should" be able to play solo on helldive is nothing more than the result of the "everybody gets a trophy" generation. Helldive level is meant to be just that....absurdly difficult with 4 fully stacked teammates. Thinking you should be able to play solo is just absurd.

    Thanks for this clarifications. I usually play with a group of four but our schedules aren’t always aligned so often times it’s three of us or when it’s only my more skilled friend we could still handle duo 9’s. But the last few days when I would play alone to test weapons I went from easily soloing 7 on bots and bugs to barely finishing 1 in 3 or 4 games.
    Here I’ve been thinking it was all the weapons I was trying are just trash cause I hadnt tested with my usual loadouts. Wonder how many other people out there are misjudging gear due to these changes

    I also think crazy high spawnrates would be better if there wasn't a timer hard restricting how long you could stay in a mission - yeah I know why it exists, but it sucks because sometimes me and my buddy duo'ing the game at higher difficulties just have to say "well we'd love to fight off this massive horde rn, but we got 6 minutes left so let's just leave". It's really disheartening, and not often talked about by the community, so I doubt it'll ever change, but I would love some kind of change where after the mission timer finishes, instead of just calling extracting and auto leaving after 20 seconds, it instead gave you an incentive to leave quickly but let you stay in mission for as long as you want, say some kind of debuff like double the cooldown on everything including resupplies and reinforces, so you really felt it and had a good reason to leave. If something like that existed, then I could see the massive reinforce loops being doable.
    I say this as a HD1 solo player who never stealthed, some of my favourite parts of that game was getting in a huge extended gunfight over say, disarming bombs objective which was insane in solo, but if you were good you could just keep fighting them off and use the slight downtime between patrols to do your objective, but it'd take like 15 minutes lol. I miss those huge battles of attrition, and easily my biggest issue with hd2 at the moment is that I can't do that, I'm forced to play fast and skip out on the fun because I want to take engagements instead of running away.

      During the release of hd2 you could wait for your destroyer to leave and the emergacy pelican would stay as long as u wanted. The only difference is you could call in any stratagems nor resupplies once the destroyer left so you we still limited by whatever ammo u had left om the map

    I am always up for a challenge but this is beyond silly, there is so much stuff coming at you that it is impossible to form a frontline of fire where you and your squad can hold and fight
    now is just running around waiting for the eagle cooldown trying to find cover wherever you can
    your most op weapon atm is your running speed, everything else is secondary
    I want the game how it was at launch !

      Stealth and mobility do feel a bit too necessary.
      I think they need like an armor buff. So medium and heavy armor actually have traits that help you kill stuff.
      And from personal experience, having more than one eagle is a mistake.
      People talk about them having more charges, and how if you constantly spam the eagle strike you can throw more of them out.
      But you can throw out multiple orbitals at the same time, and a lot of them have lasting effects, which both make clearing enemies and providing flank protection more likely.
      Also people seem to tend to bring a support weapon and a backpack leaving them with only two massive AOE stratagem.
      A lot of my solo helldives I do with three orbitals and one eagle.
      Sometimes I'll replace one with a backpack or support weapon, or mix things up and take a defensive stratagem.
      A lot of my solo helldives end quietly, just waiting for the pelican.

    I understand your take on apologizing for the negative tone but from where I stand videos like this are a positive! Poor balancing, poor testing, and patches that seemingly break the very component it focuses on NEEDS to be addressed. Videos like this alert the playerbase, including myself, to these changes and errors and helps us all as a whole communicate to Arrowhead that this ISN'T what we want. When you release a live service game the channel for constructive criticism and feedback has to be open. Those who just call it whining or complaining are the ones who seem to care the least about the future of this game. To sum it up, great video and keep up the good work!

    Thanks for uploading this. I really hope more people bring this to the front so the devs take notice, because so far they haven't even acknowledged this bug. Even if it wasn't a bug, it should still absolutely be repealed. I mostly play solo or with just one friend, so this change has really affected us and made the game less fun. I used to play solo automaton helldives, now I'm just not good enough and I don't bother to solo anymore. Our duo matches are also severely increased in difficulty. It was so much better before the change. Sometimes we are just getting overrun and it seems impossible not to.

    We were doing bots on 7 last night and it wasn't just patrols spawning, groups were literally spawning in bases we just destroyed or places we had just looked and then looked away. It was beyond frustrating.
    I don't get the logic behind this decision. It isn't fun...it actually pisses me off. We JUST CLEARED THAT AREA - How tf are bots just spawning in there and then calling in reinforcements?

    As a co-op MP game, it should encourage group play but I agree it shouldn't punish solo or duo play. Maybe add bonus something when you are a full team if that is the vision of the game designer.

    The squeaky wheel gets the grease, as the old saying goes. The more "noise" we Helldivers make by completing main and side objectives in a given mission, the bigger the "response" will be from automatons/bugs who are originally outside of the mission area. That's also why as outposts are destroyed, patrols become more and more forced to spawn from the edges of the map instead of in the middle.
    We are technically reducing the local/in-the-mission reinforcements with each objective we complete, but that just means that more and more enemies from outside the mission area are going to be sent to find and exterminate use Helldivers. Hope this clears up the confusion!

      They could just come right out and tell us they mean for mission success on higher difficulties to never be 100% and sometimes the maps are just BS even with a full team of decent players, and people would respect them for their honesty. They are trying to stretch the game by making you spend more time to progress in the game vs burning out from having no new maps and enemies and a few weapons are generally sidegrades from the rest of the lineup. The problem here is there is a fine line to walk between stretching the game to the point of frustration to keep your concurrent player numbers up without people burning out, and it doesn't seem to be trending towards stability.

      I thought it was always implied that the highest difficulties should be difficult even for a well-organized team.
      But it will be a difficult line for them to walk.

    My friend and I usually run duo runs and we noticed something had changed. We avoided playing with random players because we usually had more of a stealth style of play with guerilla hit and run tactics we enjoyed. Most random players would just come in guns blazing, call in supplies for themselves away from us and leave us high and dry. This game just keeps going up and down with the choices they make every patch. I honestly wonder if they're trying to force players into 4 player games to reduce instances on the servers, so they can reduce servers again or something weird like that. Holding hope for now that the devs take a moment to step back, take a breath and thinks things through more clearly. Weapon buffs and nerfs that "aren't working as intended" just make it seem like they knee-jerk reacting without proper testing or thinking ahead. Still holding hope that the game stabilizes in a better path forward, but all eyes are on them and people will lose overall interest if this pattern keeps up. I feel like their game got notice because it was fun and different than the AAA half finished, overly monetized games that have become the norm. If they keep making changes that take away the fun aspect of the game, they will lose the faith of the players, and everyone will move on to something else.

    Great video and loved how you incorporated Luchs into it. This doesn't even go into the argument of, what if I want four man groups to be crazy and hectic? The only group this helps are those that want to stroll around killing things and xvac with no real challenges.

    I've noticed jetpack Automatons can now run as fast as you which means you can't kill them without being hit by their self-destruct, which likely kills you. A lot of them spawn even on Easy. I recently completed 5 missions on Suicide, Challenging and Easy but didn't manage to extract at all! No fun whatsoever.
