Yes,all we have is now! This will be the second Christmas without my husband of 50 years. Losing him changed my views on absolutely everything. Slow down, enjoy the moment and cherish the close friends and family that you have. I don’t bother buying “stuff” any more as it is just not important. ❤
Totally agree with you Caroline, since I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 I have a totally different outlook on life now …. Health is wealth! I live life at a much slower pace these days and cherish the time spent with family and friends but also love those days I spend on my own too enjoying my hobbies. I love to crochet, it’s my passion and I find it so therapeutic and you get to make something beautiful 😊
Enjoy the next three months, I know I will xx
Totally agree we race towards the next thing. Christmas for 3 months! Personally I never watch Advent calendar vlogs, they are so boring and are bought by the gullible and are full of things you don't want or need They are generally a rip off. Paying for expensive packaging and promotions for brands. I feel better now I have said that!
Not every video will be of interest to every viewer and that is perfectly normal and ok 😊
@@lizprice3948 totally agree.
I like these type of videos, even although I do not buy the bigger Advent , as CHristmas to me is about the Birth of Christ. But, I still enjoy the beauty advent.
Drives me mad, Halloween in August, people on here doing Christmas in July , really wishing our lives away , and it does seem to make the months go quicker , really annoys me. We must cherish the month we are in and those to come
Hi Caroline. You are so right, I think most of us need to stop for a moment and enjoy what we have. My heart goes out to your friend. I lost my son 15 years ago, he was 36. My friends were such a comfort to me, and I'm sure you will be to Faye. Just being there for her, and letting her talk about her daughter, giving her a hug and even sharing a few tears, that's true friendship. Enjoy New York. X
Yes, try and live in the moment. The only good thing about thinking Christmas now is, you can spread the cost. I think I will be asking family for donations towards my heating bills this year!!🥴. I used to have candles burning in my lounge, but I didn’t realise that they were making a mark on my ceiling, directly underneath were they were burning!! Plus I have read, the fumes they give off are not good for the lungs. Keep on rocking and living in the moment🙏🏻🥰
Completely agree with you about rushing through to the next thing constantly. It's very overwhelming. I'm definitely trying to live and appreciate the now. Life really is too short. My heart goes out to your best friend and family for their loss, it's so incredibly sad. Thinking of you all. I'm only a few years older and it really does put things into perspective. I suffer with my mental health and sometimes get so overwhelmed with life but I do know how lucky I am. Always tell your loved ones how much you love them and hug them that little bit tighter ❤❤❤ Always love these chats, thanks for sharing your thoughts xxxxx
I got back from a holiday last night , it was a shock to the system to come home to rain and chilly weather. I’ve enjoyed the last 2weeks in the sun it was glorious to have no work or time pressure. You are so right about slowing down and cherishing your friends and family . We also need to look after ourselves, learn to say no to things without guilt too.
Glad you had a great holiday
Absolutely- let’s all enjoy and appreciate the ‘now’. It’s the only time we’re guaranteed. I’m enjoying my slow but steady decluttering- it’s satisfying and rather calming. We have a few short breaks across the country over the next few months and several evenings planned with family. But, in the meantime, I’m just embracing the autumn season - pumpkins, cosy throws and lots of lovely candles. Making a cosy space is very satisfying too. We’ve also just bought a recliner sofa (a Lazyboy! 🤣) which is sooo relaxing in the evenings that it’s hard to stay awake! 🤣🤣. Not turned the heating on yet but it won’t be long I suspect.
Feel the same as you Caroline, live for today tomorrows not garanteed 😘😘😘
I visited NYC with my oldest granddaughter & her BFF a couple of years ago. We had a wonderful week, we saw the play "Wicked", went over to Ellis Island, visited the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, visited the original Macy's Department store and did a very lot of walking. There is just so much to see & do, it's hard to pin down just a few things. But I think one of my favorite things was walking on Broadway and Times Square, looking at all the bright lights and people watching. We had Birthday dinner in little Italy, which it was very very good Italian food. And we visited Little China town. It was so much fun with 2 teenagers (18 years old).
Live for the moment amen 🙏 🙌 ✨️ ❤️
Good to hear about your positive plans Caroline, and that you’ve got a lovely holiday and can support your friends. You and Ashley work hard and it’s great to plan family get togethers and relaxing times. As you say, we only have now. I don’t enjoy the hype around Christmas, I find it depressing and I have no family now so I purposely keep positive and enjoy time with my partner and friends but mainly keep the TV off to avoid all the noise. My major plan is to start eBay again as I’ve finished all my bungalow refurb and I’m ready to get selling for Q4. Just a part time thing when I have the energy but I enjoy it. Thanks for sharing with us lot, it’s much appreciated.
I’ve been lucky enough to have been on your upcoming holiday, NY and sailing back on the Queen Mary, had a fabulous time. I can recommend going into The Marriott Hotel on Times Square and sitting in their Cocktail lounge at the top as it rotates so your view changes. You don’t have to stay there to do this, it’s well worth the cocktail.
Oh wow. You and I are in the exact same frame of mind at the moment. I love Christmas but detest the focus starting so early! My husband and I have just returned from a couple of weeks drive holiday from Adelaide to the NSW Central Coast to visit dear friends and back, exploring our rural country towns along the way. The best thing was the feeling of freedom from any expectations or responsibilities. Just cherishing each day with each other. Was so much fun and enriched our connection with each other even deeper. We still have a couple of weeks before returning to work and it is just so nice to enjoy the comforts of our home together. We are in our early 60s and each day is a gift. You’re so right with not knowing what’s around the corner, so embrace the time we have with those that are most important to us. Couldn’t agree more. 💝
It's been a difficult time for me over last 2 yrs. Lost my Husband to Asbestosis. I had nursed him nearly 20yrs.took a fair bit of time to slowly adjust and still feel not there yet.so I'm reminding myself that there's no timescale to grief and just go gently on. 15th October I'm getting a new hip and 12vweeks after a new knee on the other side. Arthritis is a devil. Also had gall bladder out this year so feel it's a year of getting me sorted. Like you I would love to increase my activity and flexibility and just spend more time with my 2 children and 7 grandchildren. We have a close family and want to enjoy that. So here's to a more healthy and active time, eventually . Periods of reflection do us good. Xx
Sending positive thoughts for a speedy recovery, Patricia 😊
@@patriciacargill4975 sending love and good wishes your way. Life is not easy on our own after being a couple for so long. (50 years here). Grief has a habit of reminding us especially when we are not feeling our best. Stay strong, Sue ❤️
Kindred connections to what you shared and are planning for the next 3 months. Thank you! 🍁
Warmest friendship from the Colorado Rockies 🇺🇸⛰️🇬🇧♥️🫖
Completely agree with everything you said Caroline. We are all guilty jumping ahead instead of being in the here and now.
I too plan to declutter and am starting a get heathy journey to lose weight. I want to host a holiday open house and enjoy spending time with my friends. I plan to serve soup with crusty bread and have some holiday treats. Something simple, low key and a way to enjoy each others company.
Hear hear, we do rush from one season to another and this is my favourite time of year coming up. I want to cherish and spend time with loved ones, you don’t ever really remember gifts but you do tend to remember get together, and I want to create more of those memories. Thank you for making me think of what I want to do with the last quarter if the year, and enjoy coming into the festive season at a slower pace 🥰
Caroline, I had steroid shots put into my painful knees. I was so fatigued before and now I have energy and less pain. I'm down from an 7-8 pain level to a two level. I'm doing the cleaning I can sit and do and waiting for the 7-10 days when I'll have the full effect from the shots for the more physical stuff. I recommend these shots if your knee pain gets too severe. Life is short, don't just suffer through.
I hope you don't mind me jumping on but how did you get the doctors to agree to injections. I have been left with agonising pain after pulling a ligament 😢
Morning, I have sat listening to you nodding away vigorously. We have decided this is the time to begin to have a real declutter. There are things up our loft that haven’t been needed for 20 years so after Christmas we are on a mission. I so agree with you about being rushed through the year, it’s madness, I’m intending to get something out of every day. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, much appreciated xx
I am another one retired with no plans as such for the rest of this year. The only thing i can think of is to stop worrying so much, stop trying to keep the peace family wise etc, it is exhausting. So i need to just get on with living and enjoying life lol.xx
Agree with you! Tired of being a "fixer".
It's called mindfulness living in the moment. You never know if it's going to be your last.We are always racing towards this that and the other not enjoying the moment.
No plans as such. Today is gloriously sunny and slightly chilly so I’m going for my usual swim. I’m retired so my days are my own. I love it. I do already have a Holland & Barrett advent calendar, but it’s tucked away for December.
Hi Caroline, I love your chats. I am at an age where I am looking to slow down my life and possibly make some big life changes regarding work. Although I am not at retirement age, I just feel like I would like to take more stock of my life and cherishing what matters ❤
Great video Caroline, I also need to plan what I want the next 3 months to look like, at the moment I feel like I am just plodding on & wasting my life doing not a lot. Thank you!!
The first time we went to NY we packed so much in we needed a holiday when we got back 😂. The second time was at a slower pace 💫
That sounds lovely the weekend with your family to put your Dad to rest. I lost my sister and we did a similar thing for her. It has been a very quick year, wish it would slow down a bit. lol. I love Christmas time but its getting closer and closer every year. Nice relaxing video , thanks Caroline.
What a brilliant video Caroline. This is exactly what I want let's hope we achieve a peaceful autumn 😊
Very nice video, food for thought. I hope you prioritize the no working on the weekend! We all need to recharge! Crafting, for me this end of year is sewing and knitting projects that I really want to do…I’ve missed doing these activities.
Hi Caroline, totally agree with you. Just been catching up with some of your earlier videos as been without Wi-Fi, you made me cry about not getting a card from your Dad. I was fortunate as my Mum used to keep our birthday cards up for the month of our birthdays….which I now do as does my Daughter, anyway, I have kept a few nice cards and on my birthday and Christmas I always put out one from my parents, both sadly not with me anymore, just lovely and comforting to have. Sorry for your loss but keep the happy memories…never forgotten ❤
I Caroline,
Watching from Australia 🇦🇺,
Your absolutely right, we tend to be rushing towards the next best thing.
Our plans for the rest of the year,
In 2 weeks we board Queen Elizabeth in Sydney Australia and voyage around Australia for 40 nights looking forward to that. Having a quiet Christmas 🌲at home on the farm, then on the 5th January we fly to London to board Queen Victoria and do a full Circumnavigation of South America for 80 nights and voyage back to Southampton. Then fly back to Australia. 20th June we fly back to London with a stop over for a few nights in Doha, we board Queen Mary 2 in Southampton on the 24th for voyage of 45 nights. Live life, enjoy it, and be thankful for family and friends. 🥂🥂🥂
Wow that s a lot of cruising, hope all your travels are lots of fun 🤩
Great vlog Caroline. It’s so important to slow down and enjoy the ‘now’ as you never know what’s round the corner. X
Thanks Caroline, you've jolted me into thinking what I need to get out of the next few months.x😊
Absolutely right , I am trying to wait until our family birthdays are all over until I start any Christmas shopping this year and that will be second week in December and I realise if you have a large family this may not
Be practical , also only spending what I have and we will still have a lovely time together as long as everyone is well and that is the most important thing ❤
Hi Caroline. That was a really good vlog. I agree with almost all of what you said. I'm a Christmas girl and get so excited about it. Yes, I also agree on cherishing your family & friends. I'm in my late 60s, my mum lived until she was 93 but with alzheimers for the last 17 years of her life. My dad & 2 brothers were taken too early. So please see them as often as you can and make those memories. 🙂
you prompted me to get going on plans. I live day to day with little planning, and always surprised when I think another week has gone by
Thanks Caroline you've inspired me to get out & do SOMETHING, I don't know what yet ❤ but I need to make the most x
Wise words enjoyed the video🥰
Sounds great Caroline. Yes being present is a gift to ourselves ❤😊. I’m in Australia on our big trip enjoying some lovely warm weather. Will be home end of Oct to enjoy Christmas with my lovely family. ❤.
Have a wonderful trip 😊
Smith and Wollenski is a fabulous steak restaurant in Manhattan - one of the best meals we had there xx
I agree with live now & not be rushing on to the next thing . I’ve slowed life right down & it’s been so nice .I love my hobbies I have a craft room which I love ,I’ve also took my crochet to another level thanks to you tube .I love love a crochet project & Audable book heaven . I read as well but Audible is the best thing I love it .I work only a few hours a week now & I enjoy it but now enjoy just a slower pace . I go swimming 2 to 3 times a week like you Mrs M I’m not mad about exercise but swimming I don’t mind . Family & friends are important & grandchildren bring joy .my cat is 18 & she now appreciates me being home more even if she just moans at me 😂I have cut Christmas right down we just don’t need things but we have Christmas lunch out with family & a few really nice family events . We are having Christmas Eve breakfast out with family & im really looking forward to it .We don’t need more things in our life just quality time for ourselves & family & friends xxx
Really resonated with what you said in this.
We have a very busy October which is unusual for us just things that have cropped up and then 3 weekends on the trot in November got invites to things ! Which is a lot to me. So will I definitely want start / mid December to be bit quieter.
Hoping that my son who lives in London will be home for at least a few days over Christmas ( other son still lives at home).
We definitely do need to enjoy our family and close friends, I agree. Xx
Loved this little chat Caroline! And you’ve made me realise that we shouldn’t try and plan way ahead - planning to enjoy the next 3 months is perfect. And of course family and good friends come top of the list. I’m looking forward to a cruise in just over a week and my house is for sale cos I’m planning to downsize. But I’m just going to look 3 months ahead and take it as it comes. Things will all work out and I know my smaller ‘dream home’ is out there waiting for me and hopefully there is a lovely family out there somewhere who will cherish the house I’m in now! ❤️❤️
Have a fabulous cruise 🚢
As per usual a lovely video Caroline. I love your ramblings...... Regarding your trip home from NY on the QM2 (beautiful ship) I would have been on her when you board at Brooklyn returning home from her trip to the Caribbean but decided to transfer that trip till one next year . I would have looked out for you but would not bother either you or Ashley as you are on holiday and deserve to enjoy it in peace with your friends lol. Once again, I love your videos. Take care Jennie x
I’m always happy to chat so if you ever do see me, feel free to say hi!
Thank you Caroline ,I loved this video .❤ what you said made sense to me so thank you 🙏.
Amen Sister! 🙂 I have been thinking the same, it's just the endless treadmill of life really. Sometimes you need to put it on slow so you can take a breath. You are so right about embracing what we have in the here and now and not always looking to the next thing, wishing our lives away. Family, love, health, all the most important things can slip to the bottom of the pile if we aren't careful. I will be interested to see how the weight loss goes. I am also low-key hoping to lose a bit of weight and do some good stuff for my health. I have signed up to Gregg Wallace health, which I completely recommend as a brilliant eating plan easy to follow and real, common sense advice. The basic principle is to eat hearty portions of healthy food, three good filling meals a day and no snacking. I have been doing this for two weeks. It feels a bit counter-intuitive to eat so much, but it is starting to work and there's no hunger. I am also a big exerciser though, love my step classes! If you are doing rebounding, wear a decent bra! I almost ended up with two black eyes when I tried this! 😂
A very interesting chat this morning, Caroline. As you mentioned trying to lose weight, can I suggest you try intermittent fasting? I started this a few weeks ago & as it is working for me, it might be worth a try. I have reduced my meals to 2 a day with a late filling breakfast often based on eggs and then a lovely evening meal. I have never been hungry and have lost 4 lbs. I am aware that eating is often based on habit or boredom. Hope you find a way forward which suits you.
Not rambled at all Caroline enjoyed the vlog very much love to hear your plans.
Lovely chatty vlog Caroline , cherish those around us got me, Caroline Ireland 🇮🇪
Going to my cousin's wedding in Palma de Mallorca in early November. So really looking forward to that. Run up to Christmas has some plans firming up with family.❤❤❤
Wedding in Majorca sounds fab , hope you have a wonderful time
Hi Caroline, I hope you succeed in your wish to slow down. It is so difficult to achieve! I am on Lake Garda at the moment and just been into Verona where the heavens opened all day! Waste of a day. I am amazed by how quickly October has come this year, and with loss of friends and surprise illness in others, the time racing by feels so precious. As you mentioned, it is having a small amount of goals, and separating what is valuable and precious in your life. My wish is to plan my own holiday periods without waiting for friends to decide and then not go, as last year I considered friends too much who then did other things, and I missed out on doing what I wanted to achieve (I usually book a single room, and they disappear quickly). With increasing age you realise that time and health are not on your side! Spend the time wisely, and all you can be certain of, is now.
Hope you're having a lovely hol :)
Yes, spend more time with your Mum. I would give anything to have mine back😢❤❤❤❤❤❤
I like your plans, especially being in the moment. It's so important to do that and yet, I always fall short. My big plans for the rest of the year: moving house across the U.S. to a much warmer place. I'm looking forward to not freezing this winter! We need to finish packing. We leave at the end of October arriving in California on 11/2. Our friends have already said they will cook Thanksgiving but at our house......but first we need a house. I'm sitting on the edge of my chair waiting to hear if we got the house we want. Send some positive vibes my way please! 🤞🤞🤞
Oh, fingers crossed for you!
@@CarolineMrsM thanks!
Couldn't agree more. I am in tortoise mode atm as like my tortoise am winding down for the winter. Unlike him I won't hibernate but enjoy a slower pace. I want to be prepared for the winter so am trying to think ahead and stocking up with necessary things so should the bad weather hit I am ready
Cherishing loved ones is so important. Now Mum has gone and the family home sold it has been a year of adjustment and grief 😔
Lovely video Caroline x
Funnily enough, just had my first Christmas advert before the start of your vlog 😂 and it's blimming miserable and freezing this morning.
Hi Caroline I am having 2 operations for my gallbladder in the next 2 weeks so can't wait for that to be over xx I can look forward to eating nice food xx
Sending positive thoughts for a speedy recovery
Loved this video its just how I feel .my plans for the next 6 months is have a spinal operation and recover slowly .and I have told my 3 grown up children and grandchildren that I am taking 3 months out for my recovery .where I will read all my books and like you try to condence them greatly .then after the recovery iv got my youngest sons wedding to look forward to
Sending good wishes for a speedy recovery, Julie x
I love your blogs and I have gone back to your old ones which I obviously missed cause I just found you approximately 1 year ago, anyway I love to listen to a book and walk and I just wondered what you thought about doing that. Thanks
I only ever listen to audio books in the car on long journeys, I enjoy them but find I’m unable to concentrate on them other than when driving
Great chatty video….I’m looking forward to retiring at the end of October after 49 years of being a civil servant. Although excited I am also surprisingly a bit nervous . Xx
I completely understand that. It will be quite an adjustment, I’m sure x
Hi 🙋♀️ from sunny Australia
Not a ramble at all but complete sense. So agree about the media and the retail world rushing us all at top speed to the next occasion, so awful, I try to ignore it all sometimes not successfully. What I would like for the rest of the year is for my husband and me to be pain free!!! He needs a new knee and I have a fractured vertebra, oh the joy but we soldier on!! Take care x
I will keep everything crossed for you both that you get the help you need to be pain free. Health is wealth, as they say x
@@CarolineMrsM thank you.
Caroline - a good You Tube channel is this one: Free Tours by Foot - New York. I watched the one about the 911 Memorial and World Trade Center Tour and it was beautiful.
Thank you, will check them out
If i was you i would put my tree up b4 i went away and then you got a warm feeling when you get home.
I definitely agree. We were on holiday in Japan until December 7th last year, coming home and having to decorate for Christmas was exhausting.
Definitely worth thinking about
How funny, I am staying with my daughter for 3 wks in Perth Australia so as you suggested I am watching you with a cold glass of wine 🍷 😉 cheers
Sounds great!
Once again Caroline thank you for this video. You sound a little melancholy but please be assured it is not a one way street, your followers show that.
I have had unpleasant health news but I am quite 'que sera' when it comes to most events in life so will just keep on keeping on.
Though I love warm weather I am glad it is now autumn so can stop getting up each morning wondering if summer has arrived. It didn't so can put away summer clothes and bring out warmer ones. What I do like about the colder weather is the clothes as I love winter fashion.
Like you I would like to lose weight but one must be in the right frame of mind to do it. Not sure I am.
Enjoy your week Caroline, be good to yourself.
Sorry about your news, sending positive thoughts your way 😊
Both my daughters live in Dubai and the elder has a 2 1/2 year old and another baby boy due in about a months time so I’m planning a trip there sometime in November so looking forward to that. But I’ll have to start shopping very soon to take Xmas and baby gifts so a lot sooner than I’d like.
I noticed that M&S have started with Christmas cakes and mince pies etc and I confess we bought a cake🙄. I blame my hubby who loves Xmas food😂. But generally I don’t like the Xmas hype starting too soon. The US is very much like that. Always looking at the next themed holiday.
