  • Even the most faithful Catholics struggle with discernment.
Figuring out what God wants can really stress you out. But when you develop your discernment skills, you can relax. There’s no peace like knowing you’re in tune with God’s will.
That’s why it’s so cool to have Fr. Timothy Gallagher with us! He’s spent years deep-diving into Ignatian prayer and the Rules for Discernment. He’s also written some excellent books of discernment advice, which you’re going to hear from.
If you’ve ever felt like flinging your arms out and yelling up to the heavens “God, what do you WANT?!?” then listen to this!

I have been listening to Fr. Gallagher for about five years now, in the Discerning Hearts youtube channel. He is amazing, a true man of God. He has been my teacher and companion for many days, nights, happy and sad moments, and always have encountered God in his words. I am thankful for priests like him.

Thank you, Fr. Gallagher. After decades of low self-esteem, I’m finding true peace through Catholic spirituality. Now I’m on a quest to live with the peace of Christ in my heart. Your words are what I really needed to hear today. 💕🕯️🕊️

I believe this is what God has called us all yo do. At 77 I am JUST beginning to get a solid hold on it. There is an huge element of accepting..then responding.

    Chris,
Couldn't help noticing your comment that Father Gallagher has great peace.
Just a word of encouragement -- it didn't take Father Gallagher 68 years to achieve it.
I went on a retreat given by Father Gallagher about 35 years ago, and he already had it back then!
Thank you, and God bless you both.

I'm 64 , been Grandmacindy for 12 years now . Private. I tried state daycare classes inspection s naughty kids dumped on me for 20 $ a day. Ugh . Bad influence. I kave 1 family now . 5 kids . Breakfast for 5 3 in school. It's hard .but worth it. My children could not have bought a house. I kept theirs for 0$ . They bought diapers and snacks. Took on 3 more for income. It can work.

The 12 Steps and Traditions are consequentialist in practice and in ethics at Step 12 and Tradition One. It is "spiritual experience" not "awakening" and "personal recovery" is 'respite' and the keeping or allowing of inseparability and qualitative equality of "common welfare" and individual respite is "unity", not particularly "A.A. unity".

Having worked at a parish for the past 5 years, I can tell you that nothing is really a “small” thing. I have received so many thanks from people for whom I did such a small thing-I thought-but who tell me how very much it meant to them. Anything you feel prompted to do you should discern that it would be good and right then do it if you can. Sometimes you’ll look back and think I don’t think that made any difference but that’s not for you to know.

I really like the idea that God used the attraction of the man who was infatuated with the young princess as a way of getting this man who had no faith to follow his heart but his now open heart was directed towards God , God definitely works in mysterious ways, I’ll probably never be a saint but my life has been turned around in a similar way, funny how this also shows up on my feed at this time , only last night I was reflecting on my new path and how it came about in that process I was asking God for some clear guidance for my next steps in ( trying) to do his will and how am I to know if I’m hearing from him and not being misled by the other guy

to @martin..., I try to keep the inseparability and qualitative equality of "process" thinking and 'progress' in having faith in my collaboration of God as the "I am" revealed to Moses and the 'doer' as revealed to Christ: 'I only do what the Father does' (John 5:19). This is the "multiplier" in economics revealed by Christ at John 6 and applied by pope Francis on 10 June 2021 in the alleged tax-exemption embezzlement (Vatican state citizens/employees Cardinal Angelo Becciu and nine others) and unacceptable risk of fraud (Italian Parliament "Zan" anti-homophobia bill) cases directly affecting him as alleged embezzlement of his charity donations and unacceptable risk of fraud on his insuring his need of union of his identity as a consecrated celibate vowed to man in Christ.

As someone who is learning more of the psychology of humans, LGBTQ+ related Christians (who aren't all flying around making their own God up) where many want to see change done within the Church to see people healed, before moving forwards) and tackling things with the rosary, I have to admit - I was surprised to see this. People may not realize it yet, but many actually do care a great deal and just want to be loved as God grows them and squeegies all of the nastiness we all have to help form the people He has planned for them to be.
Ephesians 1:11 In Him we also have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things in accordance with the plan of His will,

I am a second generation Irish Catholic and socialist which most Americans Catholics abhor which puts me off straight away my daughter and I would go to 11 o’clock church on Sunday and we would always discuss our faith . I decided to wait on the lord regardless though I still ask through pope Pius Xl,and the little flower to help me. And if I’m going wrong to know this and to rectify it. It’s basically laying ALL your cards on the table no matter what they are. It will be difficult to start with but it get’s easy the more you do it. And do not try to rationalise or justify it has to be TOTAL HONESTY which is harder than it looks but persevere. God bless. Ps ask always ask your guardian angel to help!!

I think of was King David or perhaps another king of Israel who would call on the Lord God,was it the right thing to go to war or not - no matter how the situation actually looked like! Some king’s went to war when they shouldn’t have and other king’s didn’t go to war when they should have.

I look at it like discerning is good ehe. You have a decision to make, and abandonment is about accepting circumstances as it is. Of course there is overlap, like the issue might be whether to act or accept. In that case I’d say fist discern, and the answer may be to refrain from action and just accept it

Discernment is a prudent judgement with objective social confirmation of groomed purported presumed inversion of gift conceptions and need of capabilities.
As applied to Pope Francis this discernment is of whether his synod on synodality initiated in September 2021 is a gift or a need.
The "Catholic Faith" as identity, as who one is, is with thinking reason as a role, as what one does, a component of the belief of the family when this having faith and thinking have their inseparability and qualitative equality kept or allowed. This keeping or allowing is termed the "multiplier" in economics.
Synodality is this sharing of belief in uncertainty from this keeping or allowing by the family and not "a new way of being Church".
This belief of the family is always in uncertainty by definition since belief does not mean to know.
The uncertainty arises in the degree to which we keep or allow or are joined in the multiplier as an act of our will. This joining is of eucharist as 'do-ing' 'food' and its equivalents as provision role and marriage as 'be-ing' 'population' identity.
God as multiplier is revealed by Christ reported at John chapter six in the multiplication of the loaves.
Once international statistics for population and production became available through the League of Nations after WW1, the multiplier in these statistics was noted in 1930 and tested by economist and statistician, Colin Clark, from 1931 with his conclusion reached in 1964 after his been joined in a valid consecrated male female marriage from 1946 of "just about paripassu rate of growth of population and food supplies in the developing countries" and communicated by Colin Clark as accountability and amends for his failing in this keeping or allowing simultaneously as authorisations in his exercise of an absolute power of these simultaneous authorisations of the UNO Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and Vatican Council 2 Pope St Paul V1's Commission on Population.
The UNO FAO on advice of Colin Clark by 1970 had corrected its assertion that two-thirds of the population of the world was under nourished and the roman catholic church role group came to accept by 2013 that this "just about paripassu rate of growth" resulted from keeping the inseparability and qualitative equality of union (population) and procreation (supplies of 'food' or its equivalents) in marriage.
This acceptance resulted in this roman catholic church role group de facto changing its teaching advice as if a need to a gift to the family from the inseparability of union and procreation in marriage (Humanae Vitae, 1968, 12) to both the inseparability and qualitative equality of union and procreation in marriage.
This de facto change is seen particularly on 10 June 2021 in Pope Francis' keeping or allowing of this in the cases of his ensuring his procreation role gift in the case of Cardinal Angelo Becciu and nine other Vatican state citizens/employees' alleged embezzlement of his charity donations and the Italian state Parliament's "Zan" anti-homophobia bill as an unacceptable risk of fraud on his insuring his need of union of his identity as a consecrated celibate married by vows to man in Christ.
This 'muddle' of attempting inverting gift and need by grooming of vulnerable family members by diseased family member 'familyists' for economic advantage of their families by tax-exemption embezzlement and lower insurance costs by fraud with non-economic false status inducements of "higher vocation" (Pope St John Paul 11's Council for the Family 'teaching' document: "The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality: Guidelines for Education Within the Family", 1995, 35) of doing role to being identity was corrected by Pope Francis from his election Mass on 19 March 2013 and particularly on 10 June 2021 with education in sexuality and true love as to this correction provided by his synod on synodality from September 2021.

“Spiritual desolation”. In places where there are few priests, and not the possibility of daily Mass, often you are forced to be alone with God. This is often the case in the UK, which is now a very secular society….and there is noone near to give advice. +

Bishop Baron’s ministry is, or has been, to the “none’s” a spiritually lost generation, who came about that way in large part through OUR generation’s materialism ( I include birth control or so called “family planning” in that equation- a practice and mentality which the majority of Catholics post 60’s adopted, leading to the current redefinitions of marriage and gender).
Are we going to tell the “ nones” youth that they are going to hell even before they get a chance to become believers? St Faustina taught, from what she received from Jesus Himself “My Mercy is unfathomable”.
We do not really know how hell is populated, so any discerning thinker is legitimately allowed that theological speculation, and to apply it when taking into account the needs of the audience. The nones are immersed in progressivism to perverse degrees, so unknowing and not grasping what we were given, this desperately in need of Merciful teaching to come into the Church.
We start out with children by telling them of Our loving Father, and Our Merciful Jesus, to make sure that is trusted and established, before introducing the concept of hell slowly and gingerly, as based on their simplicity.
Maybe the generation that was better catechized and had the benefit of intact married parents (or at least the benefit of “ male” and “ female” as Truth) and a more Christian social order, and yet compromised with the world, fare worse in guilt or sin, than the current misled and lied to generation, which Bishop Baron strives to engage.

03:00 How did the maker of the universe interact with the Jews murdered in the Holocaust (I only use this as an extreme example)? I ask this question in earnest as I often hear of God spoken of in a manner where he interacts with us. Honestly, the older I get, the more confused about the concept of God I get. Not posting this to be negative, but these are legitimate thoughts I have about this subject.

@@billie5057 I appreciate the sincere reply, but I think the Holocaust as a whole overshadows any good that came from it. To say "good" came out of the Holocaust really is a stretch. It's really a stretch for those that went to the gas chamber or were thrown alive into the ovens. Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but this is something I think about when we talk about God interacting with us.

Why keep it a secret? Why cause us to have ANY doubts about his existence? Which most of us have during our life. Which generally leads me to question his existence at all. Again, I'm not ready to call myself an athiest just yet, but I may get there. Sadly.

I think we end up defaulting to the “mystery” of sin and suffering, though not being able to grasp it rationally is disturbing. It leaves us only to Trust that God is not the author of evil. But how can we explain such massive cruelty? I cannot even try to explain it- can only sorrow over it. But still, if one is led away from God in that thought process, aren’t we stepping away from True Charity and the Divine order, which ultimately defeats sin and restores humanity...
If many step away don’t we face more, not less cruelty?
