Understand Percent Change Formula in Excel

Percent change is a simple concept but many Excel users find this confusing. In this video, I have explained the main point of confusion when trying to figure out the Excel formula for percent change. It is clear that when we want to find the percent change between two values, we have two different set of values. One set is of old values and the other set is of new values. There are three simple steps to find the percent change between two values. In the first step we find the simple change in value by subtracting the old value from the new value. In the second step, we divide this change by the old value to find the change per unit of the old value. in the final step, we multiply thie resultant of step two by 100 to find the percent change. The point of confusion is that this last step is done automatically by Excel if we have selected the "percent" format in Excel. Therefore in the Excel formula, we dont have to multiply by 100 if we have selected the percent format. However the formula for percent change does need this multiplication by 100.
