Well of course. I was there. Goth girls showed up in 1982 and used the same VO5 hair spray to tease up their hair as Mohawk guys did. Also Ivory soap (they smelled delicious). Often wore ratty fish nets from thrift stores that were threadbare in spots. I was an Alternative club dj and dated a girl like this. She lived in rich suburb part of town...of course! Damn my life is awesome.
In this time we lived and we called IT: a cold wave, a new wave, an alternative rock, and a post punk :-) Certainly, we loved IT so much! :-D Never, really never IT was "gothic" :-) Poa sa hrotta rojda! ;-) Greets from Laagland (Polen :-)
Eine meiner deutschen Lieblingsbands von früher. Ich habe immer noch alle meine Original-Vinyls von ihnen. Xmal hat immer eine gute Show abgeliefert und ich höre es auch fast vierzig Jahre später immer noch.
There are at least 2 other versions of this song, both studio versions. I can't decide which one I like best. A great song and a great band. I love them, even though I dont speak or understand German.
@@bulevardi_official Hefty ticket price too... but seems this is "normal" these days. when back in the days great bands could be seen for up to 20,00. Today 60,00 😐

Few people, but not that so few (me included) who think music of our days are (as compared to the early and mid-eighties) desperately lacking of innovative, audacious and culturally interesting sounds.
I don't know about that 😕 only in the simplest 3 chord progression . Not that there's anything wrong with that 😅 Was lucky enough to see them Tocsin tour in LA, with about 150 people it seemed like with my buddy, Bob Brady😅 We had to fly from Phoenix that day or Nada, good decision eh, we both were giggling and amazed how the band, and Anja😮 Gorgeous and Trippy were.
My friend got xmal deutschland record i think on 4ad and thought it was this doomy german dirge band then after 2 weeks realised the record was 45rpm not 33 and found it was more like german banshees lol
Back when goth and a lot of punk bands would guitar pitch to the vocalist voice pitch low med high back when that was the norm. Just dont see that style anymore .
the audio of this video is identical to that of the studio track...if you want to hear real live version of this track, search "X-Mal Deutschland - Incubus Succubus ( Live )", a video of 4:35 minutes.
@@AuroraeHesperus, the audio is clearly different from the studio recording (at least the version on Tocsin, I don't about other versions if one ever exists).
Teutonic arrogance... haha. What kind of lingual arrogance is it to think all good bands ought to sing in English? Not all good bands in this world are British, American, Canadian, Irish or whatever the one where english-speaking is the majority. Got to be curious to listen and like other things coming from other countries, otherwise you miss quite a lot. John Peel himself was not like you since he gave its chance to German band X-Mal Deutschland in a Peel session.
This clearly show Goth had it's roots in punk, love it
I agree, however the "Goth" stamp on these bands came way after their time. I'd rather think of the "post-punk" era.
I always looked at gloth as a culture embracing many genres of music
Isso é um fato ! Quase tudo do gótico teve influência no punk, principalmente nas roupas que você usa

Thats why its part of post punk.
I’ve heard the name Xmas Deutschland for DECADES and am just now getting around to listening to them.
They’re great!!!
Seen them at the warehouse in Leeds. Yes I was a punk.

I heard this for the first time late one night on the john Peel radio show on BBC1 way back in the early 1980s.
Same :)
Then I saw them live in Nottingham a year or two later.
A l'époque ce groupe faisait partie des meilleurs
Encore un groupe du fantastique LABEL 4AD !

They're coming to Belgium within a few months, with Anja! I can't wait to see them.
Is there some more information about this event online?
@bulevardi_official Yes. Look up Double Dare Festival Belgium!

This is the coolest thing. Mesmerizing.
Thank you, I have never seen any footage of them before. Toscin is one of my favorite 4AD albums.
I had NO idea. This is awesome. Eighty f****** two! The plot deepens.
I hate when people ditch the original audio thats how things get lost forever

If only she had put all that teutonic arrogance to one side and sang the words in english she'd probably be a squillionaire by now.
