- Latest attempts, design changes. as I work on my interpretation of Spencer Chase's Chase Perforator. Enormous thanks to Spencer and Bill Luecht for all their help on this so far.

Also FYI if you didn’t know already, Maeve is an Aeolian player, from around the early 1980’s. You have a 88 note standard version but they also made a more rare 64 note spinet piano version, which is what I have. Same mechanism, just different lengths. If you have any questions about issues with Maeve, just ask me in the comments of my videos! I’m slowly restoring mine, and my other player pianos and it’s a fun process for sure. These modern aeolian’s are thicle, but when done right play quite well. Good luck with this whole operation. -Luke :D
That is awesome! I got some Aeolian replacement valves, I know at least two of them are leaking on the right hand mute bar bellows... and that could be contributing to some of my tracking problems. I haven't tried to replace them just yet but soon and I bet when I do this helps! I could use some guidance on that part for sure. The rewinder also triggers early so I have it disconnected at the moment.
@@kowboi6969if the rewind is triggering early, then it could be that there is a rip in the paper that uncovers the holes that activate it. On these players, the last 3 or so holes on the tracker bar activate the rewind so if your rolls have a perforation there or it tears and uncovers those holes it will cause it to rewind. @lukesvintagetrains5495 Thank you, that's the video I'm going through! I'm looking at how to rebuild these and it dosen't seem too bad. They aren't horribly complicated so I could potentially make my own as well. My biggest worry about them is getting them off and back on again, he was talking about having to saw them off. Not sure what glue they used on it but if it's hide glue that's heat reversible and should make it easier. I also know the two valves on the right soft bar are leaking because if I put my finger over the hole that bellows will close, so I was going to start with those since they are easier to get to. But now reading a little further I am not sure if those are different valves or not.
@@kowboi6969 I’m not sure either about the soft rail pneumatics, mine is too small to even have the LOL. The valves use this synthetic glue to hold them to the stack and you don’t have to saw them, I just took a sharp chisel and hit it on there for each of the three halves of the valve itself and I came right apart.
@lukesvintagetrains5495 That's good to know! I could actually probably make a mold and cast them out of acrylic I guess as well if I end up breaking one as well!
This is amazing! You have pretty much one of three working piano roll perforators ever! I would suggest buying a blank piano roll from QRS music. It’s the perfect width, or just ask around on forums and suck for a more cost effective option. And you may wanna try adjusting the tracking pneumatics on Maeve, but otherwise she sounds good! Will you ever make rolls for anyone? Also does it work with midi files?

Also if someone would be interested in custom rolls I could try cutting something! I'm still working some bugs out and stabilizing the machine a bit.

@lukesvintagetrains5495 A midi file would work but depending on what it is and how long it would take to cut, I'd have to figure that out! It also from a legality standpoint would depend on what it is copyright wise, I don't know how that would work. If it's your own arrangement or something public domain no problem I think.
