It is actually really hard to "be yourself" on script. She had great timing, charisma, understanding of her lines, etc. Her character may have been similar in some ways to herself, but she was acting, and doing it very well.

Children should NEVER be charged as adults! Children's brains haven't fully developed and they are more impulsive and less rational than adults. The entire reason for having separate criminal charges for kids, is that it is scientifically proven that children are less competent than adults. Having a child in prison with an adult population of hardened criminals is outrageous. Also, I don't understand the point of the government not having a special hiring program for ppl with criminal records and expunging their criminal records after 7 years (that's done in Canada). If ppl can't get jobs how can they refrain from criminal activities to support themselves. The system is set up to continue the cycle of crime and punishment to fund the prison industrial complex.

I was more tuned into the issues with our system. If someone served their time and trying to become productive in society, how is it legal to just fire them based on a criminal record. You are effectively forcing these people to stay in the criminal world in order to survive.

Before watching the Wire I would have judged her for the way she spoke and the way her hair looked...but after seeing that show, I can appreciate just how difficult it is for a child in that situation to escape doing bad things..it's good she got out of it because her addition to the show was somehow like so authentic. She really added another dimension to Marlo's muscle.
